watching and finding out about some Tagalog words that descent from the Austronesian language I realised just how much like 'corruption' of the words has become lol. Like the word sayang means both "loving someone or something", can an endearment calling but it also mean "what a waste/it's so wasteful" in both Malay and Indonesian but the Tagalog? They just take the worst of the meaning of the word LMFAO. It's so interesting. I still remember watching soap operas from Philippines and finding out that anak means anak (child) and anakko (idk the spelling) basically means child and the spelling and pronunciation is simply a corrupted pronunciation and half the meaning from anakku which means my child. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more evidence that the SEA was once whole before the colonisation of every parts of it.
If you dig into other major languages in PH, you can see a lot more similarities. My actual local language (not Tagalog) has a literal aku which means I/me (ako in Filipino) which is also the exact same thing in Bahasa. And that we have apuluh for number 10 (sampu in Filipino) which I believe is sapuluh in Bahasa.

To be fair, depending on how you use the word, sayang can mean both love and wasted. I think because in Malay or Bahasa Indonesia, sayang as wasteful is more of an expression, so it's less commonly heard.

Sayang could also mean what jurad mean, it's depends on the context. If you say sayang towarda person/entity, then yes it's most likely mean honey as in my love etc. I'm sure someone else already explain the in depth of it in the comment.
