A lot of people say Debra’s but I disagree. Especially after watching this video. He doesn’t realize that if he was more helpful around the house his wife might be nicer to him and he might get laid more often lol.

They were probably decent people before they met one another.
One of the things I've always loved about this show is how Patricia Heaton portrayed Debra. Throughout the years as most of us have seen Housewives portrayed on TV as these happy, ditsy women who had very few complaints towards there family and husbands. Women who really didn't stand up for themselves and just played along baking pies and taking care of the house. But the character Debra showed the viewing audience what most women are like when dealing with a household and a lazy no good husband. Debra had all the emotions that a lot of women have. She showed anger, jealousy, frustration, happiness and so on. Even all the nagging Debra did towards Ray was spot-on in comparison to real-life marriages. It was the same thing with the character Marie. A lot of people have dealt with that older mother, grandmother, or mother-in-law that wants to run everyone's life and tell people how they're way of doing life is right and everyone else is wrong. So yes the show was a comedy, but the writers did an excellent job of showing what people behave like in real life and not a fantasy TV world.

Explain to me how an adult human doesn't expect their spouse to learn how to fold a shirt or change a diaper.
Well, there are masculine roles and there are feminine roles. Shows like this, whilst humourous, and basically every other family show from the early '90 into the early 2000s portrayed men as being lazy childish fools who couldn't hold together a household and that only women were competent and martyrs doing literally all the work. The people who wrote those shows, their view of traditional roles is that men do nothing and women do everything. A very myopic view of the male role, because those soft types that wrote the stuff never actually worked a real trade a day in their life. And the women involved were pushing women in careers as being strong and motherhood as unimportant (something a male can and should do while a female is at work). And now 20 years later we see the American family totally dissolved into chaos. The push for extracurricular activities, because kids should go to college to major in something that doesn't have a job in the real world. FFS my sister's kids all work or have sports on holidays, except for the huge ones like Thanksgiving or Christmas. So not only is the family dinner not a thing anymore, they aren't even all there on almost all holidays. Because of how males are portrayed, we now have man babies playing video games, bouncing from low wage job to low wage job, because they're whiny, don't want to work 40 hours, and have no marketable skills.
It's so funny for sitcoms, they say the table is too small, yet the whole other half of the table is empty just so they don't have their backs to the camera
These scenes are unlike Ray’s character. He is an exceptionally good liar, to the point that Debra and the rest of the family usually don’t catch him until later.

This clip is super old but this is a reply for those praising Ray for being a provider: it takes more than that to be a good husband and or father. That man did sh!t unless Debra begged and screamed. So no, she shouldn’t be grateful just because he’s ‘a good provider’. Debra has the option to provide - she’s smarter and more motivated than Ray, plus she has a degree and was established in her field before marriage. I’m not sure about when the kids got older, but taking care of 3 young children, cleaning, cooking and grocery shopping is much more work than a 9-5. Also, y’all forget that Debra had the potential to work, but every time she tried, Ray threw a fit.

Being a homemaker is a tough job , but I’ve enjoyed it. But because of the economy, I’m having to work part time . I know Debra can be a hot tempered bully, but I understand her frustration. Ray is lazy and always has lame excuses.
Real story - in India one guy ran for election and got 6 votes when his family has 9 members. He was pissed because his own family didnt vote for him...

Debra castigating Ray over housework is just like most couples. We all know THAT argument, we are all guilty.
But I can never understand why, if I am to cook or clean or do laundry, why, oh why, does it have to be done at the time she would have done it? Why is "later" not acceptable? And since there are only about three things I can cook without major stress, does she expect me to cook something I don't know? Especially when it is something that when she cooks it, it is something I force down out of politeness and smile because I love her, but would never in a million years voluntarily prepare.
But honestly... how do our wives get the bed so perfectly smooth? How do their folded clothes look so perfect?
And why can she say "later" but I cannot?
At least I am good at cleaning the toilet.

That's only because he's always being rejected. That plus his interest in sex seemed to be all about the physical sensations and not at all about real intimacy. The impression I always used to get (I know it's not real) is that Debra deliberately married a childish man she was barely attracted to so that she could use sex as a reward for good behaviour. Plus, putting on a maternal persona filled her gaping personality void. I agree, though, it's a very creepy way for a relationship to work.

When Debra was always late getting ready. She should start getting ready a lot earlier, so Raymond wouldn't have to wait. I always get ready, so I'm at least 10 minutes early. It can be done. Just like with the awards dinner. She could have done all she did earlier, so if she ran into problems, she would still be on time. It just infuriates me when people are late, and say there wasn't enough time to get ready.

Everyone always hates on Debra but if Ray insists on being a man child with no backbone then she has to be more authoritative and aggressive. If she wasn’t, nothing would ever get done in their house, cause there are moments Ray is almost hard to watch because of how stupid and useless he can be (like with the fire and the way he never stands up to people). Then on top of everything she has to deal with Marie and Frank criticizing and watching her every move. She wasn’t perfect but her anger and aggressiveness was justified🤷🏻♀️
My ex was similar to Ray he never sided with me when it was needed never had a backbone or stood up or said anything to his step mother we dated for 3 years and his step mum never left us alone she always was there he didn't even tell her to give us space even tho I'd tell him to ask her to just give us space he'd never do it if she wasn't at our place she would call him or tell him to come over we hardly had time for ourselves even when we got back from work she would turn up many times she was a bitch to me he never took my side he sided with his step mum she lied on many occasions and he wouldn't believe me the last straw were I left him was when we hadn't seen each other propley or spent alone time for a little over 2 months during that time we both worked double shifts to save up we'd get home and cook clean and go to relax everyday his mum would turn up stay till we'd go bed then I lost my aunt for 2 weeks I had stayed over my mum's house while working double shifts then after the 2 weeks I thought I'd get time with my bf for a week as they were all going away on a family holiday for 4 weeks I was wrong for that week I only saw my bf when we went bed as his step mum would turn up and stay for hours or she'd tell him to come to hers my bf finally got back from a 4 week holiday with family I was super excited thinking his step mum wouldn't show up I had only had my bf for 25 mins when the door rang it was her with all the family and friends she told us that they were all upset and missed everyone so wanted to do a last minute get together but she told us not to mention it as everyone was and scared I didn't by it obviously my bf did I told my bf begged him to tell everyone to go I just wanted time alone he didn't told me he can't do this to mum I told him she's had 4 weeks with you and should give us time I told him not to believe what she said he said to let it go and she's not like that half an hour into the party one of his cousins said she's Sad I'm going through a ruff time and I cry everyday thinking to end my Life his cousins told me not to keep this inside and to seek help my bf asked and I what she was on about she then said that the steps mum had phoned everyone were doing a last minute surprise party at our house as I'm going through a ruff time and cry thinking about ending my life she told everyone not to mention anything to me or my bf as I will have an outburst and lock myself in my room she begged everyone to come please so they did thinking I'm going through a ruff time and everyone kept quit that day was the last straw I Told my bf now you see what she's like you never listened to me or believed me and she's always in our life's we Found out she'd been lying all along telling everyone her husband her other kids that she was begged to come down everyday by me that day I told my ex that he can happily stay with his mum and follow her every demand listen to her and me and him are done he begged me to stay telling me he loved me I told if you did you would of sided with me and told your mum to give us space but you never you'd tell me to just stop
Even tho for a week I cried missing my ex and him coming by nearly everyday to ask us to work it out it was the best choice I felt free that was 5 year's ago the mum did it with all 3 girlfriends be dated they all left him because of the mum then he got married for 2 and half years his ex wife put up with her mother in law the mother in law did the same thing my bf cut ties with his step mum for 3 years now as she drove his ex wife and his daughter away from his Life

I love this show, but I absolutely CRINGGGGGGE when Debra yells at Ray. I'm sure the writers could've been just as funny but not have her belittle and berate him the way she does. If the roles were reversed and a male actor's lines were like that towards his spouse....it wouldn't have stayed on the air... :( I do love the show... I've just never been able to stomach the way she talks to him...
