  • Making Birds Mouth Cuts // Cutting Rafters To Size // Building A Sawmill Cover // Woodland Mills
In this video, Greg continues to work on building a sawmill cover for our Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill. He lays out the rafters, makes a sample rafter by making birds mouth cut and sees if it fits on our sawmill cover. He continues to work on the birds mouth cuts and discovers a mistake with some of the rafters when he realizes they are not cut to the correct size.
Thank you to Dane from Reno and Repeat (on Instagram) and thank you to our brother-in-law, Erik for helping out!
Make sure you check out the little critter that we caught on camera... Have you ever seen an ermine?
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we are building:
    3 posts in the front
    4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
    Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
    It will have a 3 :12 pitch
    Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We will be sharing the entire build. We hope you will follow along. Have you built a cover for a sawmill? Any tips?

Making progress. Better to go slower and be happy with the end product than to go fast and be unhappy every time you look at it for a long time after.
Always nice to see the wildlife.
Keep up the good work. You are picking up some new skills.

Did you see the ermine in the video? Do you like when we share the animals on our property? Deer and turkeys are pretty much a constant... This was the first time we've seen an ermine on our property!
