I remember my dad was a huge Malone fan, when MJ sunk that shot the life went out of his face, and could only say "Damn why doesn't he just retire?.. give someone else a chance"

Watching Michael Jordan interviews are just as entertaining to me as watching the man play! He's got something in interviews that no other superstar has since been as great with the media...Kobe, as much as I'm a fan of the game, he's a little awkward with the media and his answers often come across as smug. MJ was ALL CLASS!

MJ is so modest, he averaged 28.2 pts per game his first season, scored 63 in the playoffs in his second, and he averaged 37.1 ppg his 3rd year. Yet he says it took him a few years to learn to play in the NBA.

    MJ is the best.
Kobe has MJ's killer instint, but Kobe did not learn to "impact the game when shooting is off" (evident in video, stats, and Phil Jackson's book)
LBJ is complete player like MJ, but he unfortunately does not have the competitive drive and the killer will to take control of the game.
MJ is a rare combination of talent, drive, will, and competivness. I really doubt we would see another player like MJ.

MJ's defense separates him from Kobe and LeBron. 3 players in NBA history had 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. Only 1 player did it twice. He was 17 blocks from doing it 3 times.

It is crazy watching him young and just schooling everyone but coming up short. Then getting talent around him and maturity of the game made him and his team unstoppable. Watching him play with the wizards, even though I wish he hadn't, was like watching Yoda school all the younger jedi.

    Check out @13:13
To me, that's one of the biggest difference between Jordan and Kobe and that's exactly why I laugh every-time some Kobe fanatics yell " Kobe can do the things Jordan does". Of course, Jordan also teased Kobe about him stealing "all his moves" to gently trash talk Kobe about Kobe fanaticism about Jordan's game. But here's the thing : ALL Kobe moves come from PARTS of Jordan's game but he certainly doesn't have literally ALL Jordan moves. Jordan' game was based on his creativity (as he used to say) or his sense of improvisation. That's why (as John Thompson asks him) there ARE SO MANY MOVES THAT JORDAN LITERALLY INVENTED IMMEDIATELY IN THE MOMENT and that WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. And the crazy thing about it is that, he would do it ALL THE TIME...CONSTANTLY. He would adapt all the time to what the defense gave him and just create something out of nothing...having us shaking our heads in disbelief. I remember that reporters and fans used to ask him all the time if he knew what he was doing when he would make those kind of plays and he would always say that he didn't and that he just let his creativity or his instinct take over. That's why his arsenal of moves seemed literally BOUNDLESS. And that is the beauty of Jordan's game...his game is based on improvisation first. Jordan's game was a mix between a great rap FREESTYLE and a great piece of classical music at the same time. It was RAW, RARE, EASY, GRACEFUL and PURE. Not to mention, his athleticism, his hang-time, his quickness, his skill level, his jumping ability on top of it completely set him apart from anybody on the court.
Kobe, on the other side is totally different. Yes, Kobe's game is also very beautiful (don't get me wrong) to watch and he is very elegant but not quite in the same way. The beauty of Kobe's game is a CHOREOGRAPHIC BEAUTY. Kobe's game is based on REPETITION. His entire game, his entire arsenal is based on the REPETITION OF PARTS OF JORDAN'S GAME. But Kobe worked on some PARTICULAR MOVES. That's why his game looks like a choreography. Now, yes, compared to any player of his era, Kobe has the biggest arsenal... but NOT EVEN CLOSE compared to Jordan himself. What Jordan could improvise to score seemed BOUNDLESS. The difference between the two players in that area is basically the difference between REPETITION and IMPROVISATION. Huge...
If you compare the best Kobe to Jordan from 95-98, Kobe has about 50% of his moves. But if you compare Kobe to Jordan from 84-93, Kobe has about 25-30% of his moves/arsenal maximum. Just look at a game where Kobe scores x amount of points and see how he does it. Then, go to a game where Jordan scored the same amount, look at the defense and see how Jordan operates...and WITNESS THE DIFFERENCE. MJ ALL DAY...

totally true!!!! espeially the turn around fadeaway shot that kobe makes is so similar with jordan's fadeaway. the drive to the basket with the tounge out is also imitated by kobe from jordan.

The thing that separates him from Kobe and LeBron is his defensive instincts/numbers. No one in NBA history has ever "twice" had 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season.

      @Air Magic:
Your description and analysis of both Jordan's and Kobe's games was simply fantastic. The way you summed up Jordan's game - especially with the rap/classical comparison - was delightful to read. Wonderful man; well written. 👏

MJ simply showed how potent Trust can be. When mind, body and soul are unified in commitment to achieve One's own Will, everything becomes possible; that's why the lyric in "Like Mike" resonated worldwide. It's one thing to see a guy with ELITE fundamental basketball skill + IQ, but no coach alive has ever coached effort, passion, or dedication to excellence with much success. MJ is why guys started coming to camp in shape. He was cooking by Christmas of his rookie year, whereas most vets were playing their way into form by All-Star break. He forced the players to step up or be embarrassed on 📺!😂😂
Add in the superb PARTNERSHIP with Nike (yes, Nike was a newby on the bottom before MJ so he got the partnership rather than the regular endorsement deal), which the NBA ultimately copied to some extent along the way, and his overall impact on the game is greater than just a fingerprint. MJ left his 👣 FOREVER imprinted on the game. We overlook absolute legends of the game because MJ's was so potent in every aspect every single game. In the basketball dictionary, Killer & Assassin are both defined, not by words, but by photos of Michael Jordan followed by Allen Iverson, and Kobe Bryant; however only MJ is G.O.A.T.!

Funny thing about 'The Shot' over Ehlo was Craig forced MJ into as low a percentage jumper as possible. MJ just did what GOATs do. He hit the shot. Other than that Ehlo had a great game. See for yourself:

are you foreal? you probably have never seen him play. he's a guy who can play ALL 5 positions. watch the 1979-1980 nba finals. Magic's rookie year. when Kareem went out with an ankle injury; he started at center in game 6. He finished with 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block in game 6; and was the MVP. That was just the beginning of his greatness. and he's one of the all time leading assist leaders and is the inventor of showtime. Magic is top 5 all time. come on foreal.

Everybody loves comparing players, but numbers don't lie, and players that are great play to win rings, Jordan, Russell, Shaq, Magic, are the greatest players for me. When these guys won in the finals there numbers were better then anybody else's in the history of the game. Jordan 6 Finals MVP's for most all time, 2 place three players with 3 Finals MVP's Magic, Shaq, and Duncan only three in the history of this game, and then there's Mr. Bill Russell, Let's see more rings then finger's 11 in 13 season, 8 straight wins in the finals, and ohh don't let me forget, that Finals MVP award is named after one player by the name of Bill Russell. There are a few players with 2 finals MVP's Bird, Hakeem, Kareem, Lebron, Kobe, etc, but not Three, sorry, they had there chance to win three and came up short in the finals, or had teammates who played great on a bigger stage.

great list. Bird would be No. 5 on my list. I am very pleased to see Hakeem on the list. Also, I would've changed Pippen with Stockton. I don't know why everyone underrates Stockton that much, he's not on any list, yet he's the second best PG the game ever had

Pau Gasol & Ron Artest bailed Kobe's brick-jacking behind out of game 7. Lets not forget about that. In the most CRUCIAL game of Kobe Bryant's life ('10 Finals Gm 7) thus far, he needed two players to bail him out because he could hardly buy a bucket. No intention to hate here. I'm just calling the shots how it is.

Well, it was at least 51% Kobe's flaws during the entire 2004 finals. I know that for SURE. I've also heard it from Lakers fans. Oh believe me, even if Lakers had Bynum, their chances of beating the '08 Celtics would've most probably been slim-none. Garnett was DPOY in '08 as well.

If the highlights alone in this video has not convinced you that this man was a one of a kind athlete, then I do not know what to tell you. Don't take that personal though.
