    I consider my carrier to be my main ship. Everything else is auxiliary. I engineer and setup my ships with carrier based operations in mind. As for changes I would make, I would like to be able to pick what weapons the carrier used to defend itself, even if it’s just a visual thing. I would like an slf cap with my carriers colors. I would like to be able to make exceptions to the no fire zone around the carrier. I would like to see multiple viewing locations around the ship added in as well as viewing locations within the ship like an interior hangar view of a handful of your ships on the deck being worked on by npc deck crew and what not. Perhaps another view of a massive cargo hall with forklifts moving stuff too and fro.

    I think, to me at least, the biggest missed opportunity is that the fleet carrier carries your fleet of ships...but most of those ships sit there and do nothing 99% of the time...why can't I hire some NPC pilots and send them out on missions "Jack, I want you to take the type 9 and go collect xyz good and deliver it to this station, we have received a request to deliver 700 tonnes of medicines due to a plague outbreak, sally, take the Vulture and provide Jack an escort to keep the pirates off him....Ryan and Cliff, we have received a request to provide a security detail for a visiting ambassador, take the Courier and the Clipper respectively and meet them at this system"....I have probably 3 billion invested in ships that I pull out once in a while for one specific thing then they go back into storage.

    As someone stuck on console with Horizons at the moment, I'm jealous of the carrier improvements in Odyssey. My carrier feels very half baked in implementation on my version.
    The upkeep is definitely skewed too high currently as it is in my opinion. I only plan on having my IRL friend that started playing parking ships on my carrier once he's ready, but I agree with the notification thing & being able to see who's docked. At least with him I can just talk to him and let him know when I plan on jumping, etc.
    Dunno how I feel about specializing the different ship kits. Like the combat capability point, the carriers are invincible anyway so that suggestion doesn't make sense unless you want carriers to be grief-able by redoing that entire game system. I do like the suggestion to give them things to do within the stellar system like S&R or Combat Bonds, etc. Like you can park it as a neutral entity, or you can sign it up for a certain job while you're there. That sounds pretty neat. Carrier vs Carrier combat I disagree with, see my previous point on combat.
    NPC crew though, let's start smaller first, walk before you run type thing. Your NPC pilots, what's the point of hiring three of them if only one can be used at a time for your SLF? Why not give us an option to send out the inactive ones in your roster with one of the other ships you have stored on the carrier to go and run some missions? I do like the idea of giving your Carrier Crew experience, like once they hit certain levels they have some kind of buff that they provide.
    That plays well into the point about Tritium. The remote modules is fine, but maybe have the NPC pilots or the carrier crew member assigned to it as a task. Tangentially related, but why can't we plot more than one jump in the carrier at a time? I know the engine can handle calculating those kinds of routes. Maybe if they want to put a cap on it they can limit the plotting to your Tritium reserves in the tank. Otherwise I think it'd be fine to have a similar kind of stipulation of the regular jump plotting where it tells you when you're going to hit the last scoopable star for awhile.
    Pilotable carriers within the system, yeah probably just have an option where you can pick the body you want to move to within the system and one of the Crew handles it. I dunno what you could consider a reasonable time frame to make the move, but probably something similar to how they calculate the ship/module transfers between stations. Might take 20 minutes, might be an hour and a half, depends on how many LS away the body is from current location. I do not agree with having it player piloted though.

  • @Dezibahn
    @Dezibahn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    We'll never have pilotable fleet carriers as they are now, I fear. Elite treats them like Starports, static objects in the void. I would love for them to actually be moving at some slow speed when you drop out of Supercruise; it would make landing on them much more interesting, having to speed match in order to land. And I'm talking slow, like 30km/h or less, so even the slowest Type 9 can still catch up.

    I like the idea of a Tritium module BUT, it should only operate if you're online. So you park you Carrier next to an ICY ring and the module does its stuff slowly while you explore (if you're in the bubble just buy it). I don't think it should fill up the FC too fast, but faster than mining.
    Also Carriers should not be allowed to stay in a system more than a certain period. Too many systems are jammed with FC owners not moving preventing others from getting their carriers into that system

  • @ShinigamiAnger
    @ShinigamiAnger 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Whatever they do I hope that they don't raise the upkeep cost.
    Also I hope that they don't change them as suggested at 3:40. Terrible idea imo. Their functionalities should be improved, not limited. I do all kind of activities, shoudl I have 4 carriers?!
    The different layouts are just for aesthetics and since they are only obtainable via ARX i say keep it that way. What you suggest would be better achieved via modularity. Make more modules and let cmdrs install and swap them as they wish. Just like fitting a ship, there should be a module to increase jump range, another to increase the cargo bay and so forth, of course limiting what you can install so that you don't end up installing everything. And there you have specialised carrier.
    Other than that, almost all suggestions are about automation, making passive income, even passive tritium. Imo none of those are going to happen, and for a good reason. Also the piloting of the carrier is a bad idea. It's not supposed to be just another ship. Carriers should provide more services imo, not the kind of things that I see suggested here, pretty bad collection of ideas to be honest.
    But I agree that we pay for crew members that actually do nothing, I've been saying this basically since carriers were launched.
    Fuel service? We must manually move tritium, and by using a middleship! How more stupid do you want it to be? What are we paying that guy for?
    We should be able to have him refuel the depot after it goes down to a set %. He could also scan the market inside a radius (let's say 100LY as an example) and poke us when he finds tritium being sold at a price that we specify.
    Bartenter? He is completely empty when you install it and does absolutely nothing.
    He could atleast recognize us as their boss and offer a shot of something. Since he is more of a merchant of some sort (I still can't understand why) he could scan the market and advice when he finds pre engineered on-foot weapons in the current system or something. He could do special offers that change with time. stuff that he came to aquire and wants to sell. Maybe even engineering materials from time to time, or even gift one once in a while. He could provide special missions from time to time, like "hey there is this guy that is willing to pay a lot if you bring him to this location", or provide a location for a secret stash / crash site that was passed to him. maybe more smuggling opportunities
    Every crew member should actually do something.
    Also, providing a connection to the station services in the current system, even just to SEE what missions are being offered and what services are active, but still requiring you to go there for interaction (you can just visit inara otherwise, so why not?)

    o7 Cmdr! What I do not like about carriers is that you have to be onboard to manually refill the Tritium depot, it would be so nice, if you have plenty of Tritium onboard, that it could refill the depot automatically. Also I do not like the NPCs on board, especially in the bar, no movements, no one walking around, greeting you like on stations. I would love more action by the NPCs onboard the carrier. And what I really would like!!! is more usability of my hired NPCs. For example: I have hired an NPC that I put to Elite. She helps me in combat, I am on my Federal Corvette, she is in the fighter. But to be honest, that is the only position I can use her. She earns such a lot of money and I would love to use her more often!! Why can`t she be in a gunners position on a Scorpion rover? That would be so cool if she could help you there. Why can`t she sit beside me in a chair onboard my ships? Why can`t she walk around onboard the carrier? Or even join my on foot while exploration oder a mission? That would be awesome if hired NPCs could have a greater role than just flying a fighter... Best wishes and o7, Michael (aka Cmdr Rory Macnab)

    They need to be scrubbed and reworked, civilians cannot buy aircraft carriers and definitely not for 5 billion credits. Carriers should be docks with only a small and medium landing pad, there should be a docking port for large ships, they should have a jump range of 1500-2000 ly and be able to carry much tritium. NPC crew members should be able to mine as long as you have the appropriate ship onboard, the cool down shouldnt be no more than 7 minutes. A full captain's quarters and 4 crew member quarters that can be decorated. Should also have a traverseable biodome like you see on some out posts with gardens, forest etc for those long journeys into the black.

    The jump distance is pretty crap as well. I'd rather just take one of my smaller ships. It's engineers and can jump 70 years at a time. I can jump the distance of fleet carrier jumps in 5 minutes. It must be great being into sell your data straight away in the fleet car, but it's something you Gotta pay for. I think they should change the layouts not requiring arx. That's kind of crap. Just make the paint jobs and whatever cost arx. I don't even disembark except to sell exo to vista. And honestly that's really not fair to players that don't own a carrier. Keep seeing the rumor of base building going around. But it's not needed when they could just flesh out how the carriers work. I fear that the game will continue to feel like an unfinished beta. The actual ships in the game are the only thing that feels somewhat complete. Odd that they want to add new things instead of just fixing and revamping what's there.

    Why do I have to mine the trit myself? Why can't I have a mining ship on board and order the crew to mine them? Or why can't I have my crew as a wingmate and mine twice the amount?

    I am sure glad you are not in charge! :P
    5) Upkeep: you're supposed to be rich if you have a carrier, it's required to eventually get rid of some carriers when players stop playing the game...
    Roles: why? you would just change the dropdown to switch to an explo carrier when you need to jump to get more range? I like my carrier to be able to do anything.
    4) Carrier Based Missions: I think that if your carrier jumps in a populated system, the system minor factions should send mission givers to your carrier or at a minimum link up to the stations data network and offer missions from the terminals in the carrier for the system's factions. Even if it's the go fetch X commodity and deliver it to Y station (instead of the carrier itself)
    3) Crew experience: based on the Ship Crew we already have, please no...I don't need to have then take 10% of all of my earnings! And def not need having to send them on missions to level them up, I would play EVE if I wanted a spreadsheet simulator instead of a spaceship simulator.
    2) Tritium Scooping: How about just fixing the tritium mining instead, make tritium as abundant as painite for laser mining or fix the sub surface mining that's probably still broken if you move 20km from the drop point... (ie you should be able to mine 500t of trit in 2hours or less)
    1) pilotable carriers: that is just a ridiculous idea..
