    Because the seed pods are sooo prickly, I throw them in a paper bag and shake them. The seeds fall out and no hurting fingers!! Love your video!

    I love your hat! Thanks, a very helpful video for sure. I was inspired by your red sunflowers, and so ordered and got some, called "Cherry Chocolate" and I am excited about next year's garden. So, this is really great that you've shown how you harvest, thank you very much!:)

      Hello Karen and thank you for your lovely comment. (I got my hat at the thrift store for $1.00) haha Oh wow I have never heard of cherry chocolate. . . that sounds interesting, I will have to do a Google Search on that. When I was harvesting the seeds I could not believe how sharp they were. Oh my goodness. . . I hate wearing garden gloves, and rarely ever do!!! But those seeds were SO SHARP!!!! Thank again for your encouragement Karen and have a wonderful day : )

    I just got done harvesting flowers that I had hanging up in the house drying. I forgot if they were Mexican sunflowers I wanted to see what they look like just to confirm. Found your video and it’s very helpful for people. I’m too lazy. I won’t separate them from all the other debris. I Just kind of throw them all in the ground when spring time comes.

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there TronalDump1313 Thank you for sharing your experience. I love how you do it! It’s easier and less work. I’m thinking I might try your method next spring and make it easier for me. 🥰 either way works fine. Glad you found my video helpful Liz

    If I clip the spent blooms early, will the seeds still develop?
    Or do they need to be attached to the plant to finish seeding?

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’ve clipped my spent blooms early and yes, some seeds did develop. But I am not sure how viable they were. if you want to collect good seeds for next year, I suggest leaving a couple of the blooms on until the seeds have time to fully mature and develop. That way you will increase your germination rate. I hope that helps. Thank you for taking the time to visit me.❤️👍🥰

      @luvluvluvluvcats 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have success with germination only when I allow the seeds to develop on the plant. And I know for sure when they are ready when the brown and dried head DROOPS. It is a very notable sight, the head bows way down, and the stem is skinny.

    I love harvesting seeds too. It is one of my favorite things to do in the garden. You should come over and harvest seeds from my farm and garden.

      Hi Kristen thank you for stopping by. My favorite seeds to harvest are from a certain variety of impatience if you touch them they explode and pop open. Super fun I know I’m crazy like that. Sorry I did not return your email yet things have been crazy at home. I will definitely be in touch we are too close not to at least meet sometime.

    Great video thank you one question I will put them in an envelope should I store them outside in a dry place like in the garage or shed for the winter?

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey there Danacarbone9405 😁Thank you for taking the time to visit me. I keep my seeds definitely in a dry place in my garage. For sure because you don’t want them to get moldy. You could keep them in your house, but during the winter you might have your heater turned on that could be a problem. So yes, keep your seeds dry and cool. Sorry I did not mention that in the video but I appreciate you taking the time to comment. ❤️👍🥰Liz

    I try to plant the seeds couple times this year,but nothing came out. I think the seeds quality is not good. Next year I will buy some new seeds and try again. Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️

      I'm sorry you had a hard time. They germinate best when put directly in the ground and they like alot of water!!! I hope you try again. . . they sure are amazing plants and the hummingbirds LOVE them!

    Hey 😇 I’m planting this sunflower my 3ed time the past two months lol 😅. I have them in a small cup pot I got from target. Today I accidentally knocked the pot off the chair & my seedlings 🌱 feel out of the pot I repotted then lol. They are super sad hopefully they grow again. The seedlings are 2 weeks old. Planted some new sunflowers seedlings 🌱 today maybe too many since I won’t know what to do with them & if my family want them lol
    I helped Kristina at her farm removing the Mexican sunflower at the farm when late fall/winter but can’t remember if it was hard to remove. It’s it hard to remove the roots out from the ground? I have a bad memory too lol
    I’m growing different types of basil now 3/4 times. Does Raley’s have cinnamon basil? 🌿 kristina gave me a cinnamon basil plant from the farm last fall but before it died out I forgot to harvest them
    Thank you for the video 😇🎉🪴

      Good morning Gabe that is so awesome you’re planting the sunflowers. I love the Mexican sunflowers. So sorry your little seedlings fell over that has happened to me a few times as well. Sunflowers also do very well planted directly in the ground as they don’t like the roots to be disturbed when they’re young. Try it both ways and see what works out best for you.👍❤️🥰Liz

      I did not grow any Mexican sunflowers this year. I gave all my seeds away to friends and neighbors and forgot to save some for myself. And I could not find any in the stores. Can you believe that? Oh well, I hope you’re having a beautiful day in your garden too, and I hope you were able to grow some in your garden, thank you for stopping by❤️❤️❤️Liz
