This was such a mean spirited review from game informer. This is like my favorite game in the last few years and brought me back to Jet Set Radios hayday. My quote retweet summed up my feelings LOL
Agreed. I never played the original JSR but I did play JSRF on original Xbox and even on the 360, despite the weird lag on 99th Street, Highway Zero, and Sky Dinosaurian Square. I loved that game. And I love this game. Part of it is definitely nostalgia, but the game is just fun in its own right. They haven’t reinvented the wheel but they definitely made improvements to the wheel. @@Brianycus yeah, you didn't either and since you disclosed it that's totally fair. But then again you're not getting paid to post trash reviews of a game you didnt play
The game knows what it wanted to be and it did it well. It feels a lot like a game I would have played on my PS2 as a kid. It's simple, its not a MMO with internal currency or a battle pass. Sure it could use some refinements to the story, and there are some features I would have liked to see such as a local 2 player stunt battle. It also has its quirks, but this is a small team, working on a little game, for people that miss simpler times. I give it a 10 for effort and a 8.5 for execution. I want to see it sell, I want this game to bring the team success, and I want them to be allotted the freedom and time to expand and continue to work on updates, and future games with this IP. Also Lethal League slaps.
I wish team R could add online multiplayer. Jsrf modders did it and BRC modders did it in 3 days when the game just released on p.c. we could have online crew battles, races to tag spots and just hang out with your homies with voice chat/text messages. These features could extend the lifespan of BRC greatly. I also want an in game achievement list because Nintendo just wants to be different from everyone else and have no achievements.
That does sound like a lost opportunity for sure and hopefully they can add it in the future as an update. Maybe they wanted this to just be a single player experience
Achievements add nothing and are kind of dumb. I've never looked at an achievement list and thought "oh yeah it would be totally worth it to platinum this. My experience with this game will be totally enhanced by completing all these arbitrarily difficult tasks that don't even change anything in the game." They're like gold stars for kindergarteners but at least those are used as positive reinforcement to instill better behavior. Achievements though, it's a shot of dopamine I guess and then it's not even anything noteworthy. It's not like you'll be talking to your grandkids one day and bragging about how you got all the trophies for Crash Bandicoot 4. No one cares but you about your "achievements".
@@donovanfaust3227yeah at the end of the day achievements don’t matter, but for some people is the idea of “I like this game so much I want to do everything it has to offer.” Which includes getting all the achievements and 100% all of the content for some. I don’t think people want to 100% achievement hunt a game because of the achievement list, they want to 100% it because they like the game.
As someone who had not played any Jet set Radio Games, I bought the game on the minute of it's Release on my switch and played it for 5 to 6 hours straight and got up to Millenium Mall on the First day. The Game is Fun as Shit and is something I play just to chill out or relax. I also like how It's comparison to Jet Set Radio is reflected in the story in how it is about finding your roots and making a new identity. This Game is in the same Genre as JSR but Ultimately BRC is its own thing.
Now, I have no true nostalgic ties to JSR. I only played the first game on Steam a good few years ago, but I absolutely loved the game, it’s score system, and just all the style it oozes from a 2000s Dreamcast game. Playing BRC, it oozes the same style, yet modernised, and is vastly different. The mission structure is similar, but it ties into the story, which is vastly more coherent and structured than most of the JSR games, which isn’t a bad thing for them. Just an observation. They handle the different teams not by tagging their backs, but by gaining more points than them, which is a good thing. The levels are all interconnected in the world, and designed well to keep a combo going, challenge the players, hide secrets, and add more platforming than JSR did. And the characters are a lot more fleshed out than most characters in JSR. I was actually invested in Red’s whole ordeal, as well as how all the other characters would tie into their story. BRC was a breath of fresh air, and a good spiritual successor. The only flaws I can maybe call out is how samey all the styles and characters are, but that can probably be excused. It’s a fun game in my opinion, and that’s all I really want from a game at the end of the day.
The irony is I still own the issue of Game Informer that previewed Jet Set Radio and praising it's freshness, visuals and how excited they were to play it. Whoever reviewed this was on pure ass. It feels like a mix of both Jet Set games with a light dash of Tony Hawk trick mechanics. It feels like a successor AND a perfection of the formula while modernizing it a bit with better camera controls. The only problem is the lack of Professor K style narrator. It makes the interesting story flatter than it actually is.
At first, I was skeptical when I heard rumors and followed up on the game because i thought people who never played JSR wouldn’t get the same experience we got. I’ve been playing BRC everyday after work since release day. BRC 100% brings the spirit of JSRF into 2023, with modern polish to make the experience smoother than ever. I remember almost tearing up playing the intro because I never realized how much JSRF meant to me as a kid and the nostalgia hit is immediate. They copied off of so many locations in the JSRF game. But the funniest part is that the game looks graphically less impressive than Jet Set Radio Future that came out in 2002. Imagine that? Sounds like a Spiritual failure than sucessor to me.
I saw this review yesterday on the Game Informer website. I forgotten the man's name, but he wrote the most lackluster review I've seen by far. I will say the game that I got in my birthday, does have its flaws, but the game holds up to be enjoyable. I even brought up said flaws on my email to the Team themselves in hopes they tweak their game to fix some of the problems I did notice. The game play is of JSR and JSRF but you can do more in this game than in the original, minus skating backwards. I played the game and realized that you can do specific actions that decreases little bar at the bottom of the screen on you HUD. You can slide/manual, then do tricks on the ground before pressing the jump button, giving you a way to extend combos, you can even do tricks while the boost button is press simultaneously with the trick button, resetting the small gauge below. My discovery with these actions made the game fun since I can also get points for griffiti as well and mix actions up, take myself to new spots to build the score up. Which is helpful in score challenges. Back to the main point, this reviewer wrote this off as a boring game and I don't think he spent a valuable time to learn the game to which, being fair, some of the advanced techs I had to figure out on my own, which can be at least pointed out in the game. However, the way he written in the review seemed to be biased and/or somewhat pretentious, even telling reviews to go play the original JSR. JSR was a good game for it's time, but it had some flaws with the controls and it was going with tricks with by jumping and grinding on rails. The trick system was at least improved on in the sequel, they just didn't have bmx and skateboards. In conclusion, the review was not good.
Can't wait to go home monday morning after work and no life this game likes its the 90/2000s all over again! I love that this game brings urban street culture back in the main stream again even if only for now. Also the devs said while it's inspired by Jetset it's not trying to be it specifically. The producer said the game was born out of his past with dancing, sports and graffiti and the want to bring it back into the public eye. Can't recommend this interview enough. th-cam.com/video/bMMokl-jCqE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8EahririkS9vtKDr

They copied off of so many locations in the JSRF game. But the funniest part is that the game looks graphically less impressive than Jet Set Radio Future that came out in 2002. Imagine that? Sounds like a Spiritual failure than sucessor to me.
Hopefully they will fix these issues, or modders will
Looks accurate to me!
Do you need eye surgery though? I'm worried about you 😟
@@FloofPuppy 😂😂😂 JSRF is goat. BRC wants to be this game so bad. lol
Why make a video defending a game you haven’t even played yourself yet?? I’m on your side dude but you sounds goofy
JSRF is soooooo much better
Oh no, game informer got to you!
