I have a bmw 2003 530i (automatic) that got struck with the trans fail safe prog I have changed the battery and my local mechanic told me to change my whole trans ecu installed it today and still have it on finally had enough and scanned it myself and I got codes P0500 (vehicle speed sensor A) and code P0600 (serial communication link) my car drives perfectly fine until about 20 min when the trans fail safe prog light comes on would you happen to know why this would happen thank you
You could have a sensor/wiring communication issue, or failure of the module or transmission valve body. Our shop no longer services automatic transmissions. I recommend finding a BMW transmission specialist to diagnose the fault(s). Good luck!
its all sweet, but without diagnose tool it is like walking blind, for example i did change two rear sensors and not only abs light still on but on top of that my speedometer and odometer stopped working ...any ideas?
What brand sensors did you install? Try putting the old ones back in but If the issue keeps occurring i'd suspect your Abs Module is dying and needs to be rebuilt.
Hi need some help??? please can anyone tell me the name of the cable that you plug into the wheel speed sensor ...mine broke pulling it out just crumbled ...does it run to the transmission ? 2001 E39 528i
Hi Demetrius, the cable that is part of the car that plugs into the wheel speed sensor is part of the main vehicle loom, and I am not exactly sure where it runs- but it doesn't go to the transmission. I have parted out a few wrecked E39 M5s, and I have saved the vehicle wiring harnesses. If you need me to snip off a good connector and some wire, I can sell that to you, and you can wire it into your vehicle to get the connector back. Please email me if interested, ryan@e39source.com.
@@demetriusstallings7831 I have a driver's side xenon headlight, but it's more of a parts headlight. Broken off installation tabs, very foggy lens. Otherwise, it works. Are you interested?
'00 540i owner. My cruise control drops outs randomly out on the freeway. The forums say one of these sensors might be the culprit since the throttle is drive-by-wire. Can anyone confirm this?
I would need to scan your ABS/DSC module and cluster to see what fault codes are stored to get a better idea of what the issue is. Do the trifecta lights (BRAKE, ABS, and DSC) accompany the cruise control drop out?
I have the transmission failsafe issue but I’m not sure what’s causing it. Did you ever find the cause of yours? Wheel speed sensor or ABS or something else?
check out oil level in your break reservour... this is the most common cause of disk light...yet ... inpa or code reader will do the job precisly... nice video e39 source ... thumbs up as usual
Hi gus... my rear e39 sensor is simens...white hub ... would it be problem to switch the brand into delfi or other..or both sensors right snd left must be same???
+Bobby O'Hearn First ... real thanks for the reply.. the matter is that suppliers around me only have delfi and bosh... beside the price difference... when i searched the net.. it says different modes of function sonic and magnetic and electric. so thats why i was asking.. coz my sensor only shows brand which is siemens... and it get stuck ..have to break the plastic housing and spray WD40 and leave it up to next weekend to try dissmantle the 5mm allen screw... really dont know.. pelikan parts show only brands with no spec. for should it be both same?? neither mode of function??
+Shakib M I dont know what modes the others use, and often times if you use a non OEM part it will fail faster, especially when it comes to these sensors. I would stick with Siemens. They are available from ECS Tuning, FCP Euro, the dealer, etc. Pelican Parts does have the Siemens/VDO sensor available.
It's great to see new DYI postings! Please keep them coming.
Is the only one in the rear driver side like in the video? Or one is each corner?
Each wheel has a speed sensor, but the rear left is what is responsible for driving the speedometer and instrument cluster odometer.

I have a check engine light on for vehicle speed sensor as well as the other lights mentioned, can these sensors cause that as well? It’s a 2000 528i
Yes, I would replace the faulty speed sensor, reset the check engine light and ABS codes, and go from there.
What’s the resistance value on the good sensor and what voltage did you have at the sensor ??
I do not recall those figures. I'll bet they're posted in a forum somewhere though.
I have the Lamps on First After a few momths my Tacho say 0 km/h by Driving…. Also Tacho Stopps i ordered ABS Sensors(i think EBS Sensor in English)

I have this code from inpa but i dont know wich wheel sensor have the problem
INPA should indicate which sensor it has a fault with as part of the DTC.
@E39Source i have a screenshot of the error codes but its in german language
You can translate it online@@andronikosandronikou9587
is this wheel sensor going to turn a transmission light as well as throwing it self in limp mode
It's more of a traction issue than a transmission issue.
I have the transmission failsafe issue but I’m not sure what’s causing it. Did you ever find the cause of yours? Wheel speed sensor or ABS or something else?
Very well done. Thank you for this video.
I changed my driver-side wheel speed sensor but my lights are still on and now my car won't shift to the next gear. Any guess what happened
I'd need the car in my shop to diagnose this. Any chance you're local to San Diego? You may need a complete ABS module rebuild.
My right rear sensor box has another
'Plug' next to the blue one...with a severed gray wire....what is that grey wire
That would be the brake pad wear sensor.
@@E39Source ahhhhhh thanx...nothing to do with DSC light then.....my blue one is shot, thinking that's my issue......thank you
@@samdog8087 Blue is wheel speed, which would definitely cause the DSC / ABS / BRAKE lights.
@@E39Source thanx...I just have the DSC light....03
@@samdog8087 Sounds like a different issue, then. You need to scan the ABS module to see what codes are reported.
somebody know the part number of the abs reluctor ring???? e39 528i 1997
Use RealOEM.
guys...some help here pls ??? abs sensor??? rear e39...any help
My 2002 540i DSC triangle stays on but nothing else. Any ideas?
You will need to scan the codes from ABS module with a scanner to determine exactly what is wrong.
Is this the same on a 01
Yes
Hi. Your car is equipped with individual audio system (M5 audio system)?! Very rare system on this model. :D
He retrofitted the M-audio subwoofers to this 525i.
my dsc light is on too on my 01 530i...I hooked up a scanner and it said "code 88 pre-charge pump"...what would that be?
There is a pump called the pre charge pump. That could be dying, or it could be something else causing the code. Hard to say without seeing it.
when I bought the car the previous owner said he had it checked out n they told its a speed sensor but I kinda don't believe that

Ever find out what it was I have the same problem now front left wheel sensor code and precharge pump
I know it's been years but where'd you get INPA
I don't recall exactly, but with a Google search I'm sure you'll find download or buy links. It wasn't hard to obtain.
Inpa you can get from Mike’s easy bmw tool, put that in the google search bar

How long does it take
Ideally :15 minutes once the car is lifted and the wheel is off.
