You could lower large portions of the whirlpool interchange down. Especially the roads on the outside could be on ground level. That would be way cheaper in reality. Also the crossing highway from West Kettling could be build as one road bridge. instead of two curved ones. However, it might look less appealing. Anyway, the crossing road can also be lowered, as it just needs to go above the other motorway in the middle.
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Your welcome. Your videos are really a highlight of the day every time one comes out. Esp. As, I have way too little time to play in my own city.
I was hoping to see a comment about this. That's my only gripe about the default heights of the interchange is all the raised sections. Works well for plug-and-play intentions of the default, but the actual planning and budgeting would stick as much of it on the ground as possible. This will also help with the look of the skyline, the view of the new business park from the whirlpool, the sound pollution, and the potential for decoration. Or stick the metro on the ground and deal with cursed budgeting concerns as people complain about removing the "traditional" and "historic" metro line and thus the planning commission is stuck building the whole interchange airborne to appease the complaints.
Would love to see more public transport into the business parks! and maybe even a dutch style business parks with bicycle lanes as its near the dutch style apartments!
I was thinking a new housing area in the open area between the business park and the existing built-up area, but no road connection, only paths and PT. I'm a sucker for Skyways, so maybe a short one into the business park?
Business Parks also tend to have shopping centres nearby, at least a supermarket or two, and you also end up having car showrooms in the vicinity as well, just as ideas on how to expand it.
Suggestions for the new area, and these are solid ones I think you should do: 1. The office blocks next to the motorway - GET THEM A CAR PARK!!! 2. Add a metro station, maybe two around the northern and southern points of the business park, or one around the roundabout 3. Establish a bus line around the area. 4. Add some nice commerical services like a couple of retail shops, a restaurant, and a petrol station, possibly around the road linking to the southern motorway extension you made.
i really appreciate that you always remember to include accessible parking bays. helps drive home the fact that accessibility isn't a "maybe" or "optional" or "later" type of feature, but something that should be there from the get-go

Union Nodes and Split nodes are excellent tools. 10:10 The white lines don't get drawn in properly because they are off the side of the road (or so the game thinks). Usually fiddling with Node Controller will get those to work. 15:05 The easy solution would be to just replace that pillar with one that has a gap in the middle e.g. the railway pillar. Also quite upset that you haven't grounded that ridiculous metro viaduct yet.
Loving the "skyway" walking ramps across the road at 27:19. You could totally put in a few more of them between some of the other buildings that are angled together. I'd love to hear why you chose to place the old shoe factory where you did. Putting it closer to the motorway and what you called the historic rail line that's now the metro seemed to make more sense to me. It also would have put it in the drawn-in district that didn't really get much inside of it. I don't mean to complain. This series has me hooked, and I'm just feeling highly invested. Keep up the great work!

I pretty much have the same thought as last time. New business park needs some metro stations. It might be time to run a line that goes through the business park and on to the area you built last time, possibly with 1 or 2 stops on the way for new residential or even retail spaces in between. That would go a long way to solve the issue of missing people / workers as they can come in from further.
I was thinking the same. Maybe a connection to Blightea and the new residential and a perpendicular one towards the first part of the city maybe the hub or maybe near the shopping area that could later be continued towards whatever will be built on the other side of the motorway.
A fun detail that could make the industry look more Industrial: On roundabouts, if you ban trucks, but then fill the roundabout with a crossing road that is truck only. I've seen that here in Denmark, as a solution to long trucks and small roundabouts. It's not good for throughput, so only for decorational purposes.
27:40 In the hospital nearby, they have those overpasses throughout the whole campus, so each building is connected to each one on the second level. The network of overpasses and connected corridors is commonly referred to as "the sickbed autobahn".
You find the same thing in some downtown areas, connecting several of the larger multi-use buildings especially where the winters are more serious. This helps the office workers get to the commercial buildings and to the local parking garage as well. All without having to brave the cold or ice or darkness. Or the heat if it is summer. Also great if the local sidewalks are noisy and or crowded at certain times of the day.
A couple of things, the motorway between the Sutton diamond and the whirlpool goes 4-3-4 lanes in very quick order, you might consider keeping this 4 all the way through. The other thing is that, in my opinion, the "welcome office" near the entrance signs should probably be on the left hand side of the road coming in, rather than on the right for the way out.
Realistically the through road of the interchange should be below ground level, allowing you to lower the height of the carriageways and set most of it at ground level

I think the metro can start its decent underground, on the straight away, as it's approaching that highway junction since it goes underground after that anyway.
Realistically for all those office jobs each building has, even with the public transportation that’s going to be put in it doesn’t seem like there’s enough parking
A motorway services next to the new section of motorway at the new junction is great idea. Many newer ones stand right next to such junctions on the edge of a business parks. A nice touch with the business park would be since you have the factories a branch line would likely have once gone down there. It could have been abandoned after closure and serves as an opportunity for the city to repurpose it as a Metro or bring passenger traffic from the Old Market station as a local train.
A large old factory like the shoe factory would have had its own sports area for the workers. When new owners moved and take over the factory, it would have been opened up for the local community.
Jacks Shoes Manufactore is still an industrial company with traditions and financial problems stubbornly refusing to sell its land for a construction of more offices in the Business Park that grew all aroud it in recent years

Great job! one addition wish if i may: One bridge or tunnel from offices to otherside of the highway (to the metro rail) would help out avoiding future bottleneck on roundabout interchange when city gets bigger.. and ofc help add one station close to the jobs. :)

I'm loving the build, as always! To fill up the empty spaces I'd definitely add more, huge parking lots, as the demand is there, especially with realistic population and parking mods enabled. But on top of that there's a need for a metro line or a train if possible. And another entry way, as now it's a large cul de sac with few thousand workers driving through that one small road.
You should add a metro station from the existing metro line near the business park. I also think you should create a new park under the interchange for the workers at the business park to enjoy
34:00 about old factory, beautiful execution, good idea, wrong location. Old factory suggest this existed there long before other buildings, so it should be closest to some landmark, right off the motorway, next to river, power, main road, Something that made the factory exactly their logical choice when everything else was forest and fields. 30:40 amount of parking space is unrealistic, you think like a worker, not developer. Remember 4 spacer per 100 people who want to park, so they will always have to fight for them.
Nice layout, 👍 Biffa! I did wonder a little why you didn't make that whirlwind interchange on the ground. It would have been easier for the rails to go over it... 🤔
Make sure you build a little eating area in the business park, make sure to place it in the least pretty area, and annoyingly far from the buildings. At least if you want it to be accurate. I've never seen an office park where the eating area had a nice view and a short walk... its always a good slog from most of the buildings.
26:02 Why not use anarchy to bring the wall down into the ground some? Also, for those buildings, I would alternate some in front of each other in the open areas in between so as to make it seem like one seamless building. Either that, or add sky bridges in between. It just seems odd that buildings would touch at simply the corner areas.
Loving the city! You've got a town and a village and a city. But somewhere could you fit in a Manor? Somewhere that looks over everything? Somewhere the Lords and ladies would go for hunting and dinner parties etc. 👍👍
You should try a parclo interchange going into the retail park without having to move the main road but getting the ramps more far away from the interchange
The entrance to the office park should be flipped around so that you would stop at the gate and security would be inside the building on the correct (left) side of the road.

Tons of things in the new interchange don't need to be raised. To make it looks better, you may wanna lower it.
Biffa, you should extend the metro to the business park, then connect it to that high density residential district that you built in the last episode.
Both from East Kettling and Saint Giles West where the two lines would meet with a cross.
You could lower large portions of the whirlpool interchange down. Especially the roads on the outside could be on ground level. That would be way cheaper in reality. Also the crossing highway from West Kettling could be build as one road bridge. instead of two curved ones. However, it might look less appealing.
Remember 4 spacer per 100 people who want to park, so they will always have to fight for them.
watching your videos on lane mathematics is what got me addicted. 😊
That's awesome! :-)
Lets build an EXPO Center into this area!!!
Nice layout, 👍 Biffa! I did wonder a little why you didn't make that whirlwind interchange on the ground. It would have been easier for the rails to go over it... 🤔
City looking nice. Now that you need housing you should build a shared space community.
Make sure you build a little eating area in the business park, make sure to place it in the least pretty area, and annoyingly far from the buildings. At least if you want it to be accurate. I've never seen an office park where the eating area had a nice view and a short walk... its always a good slog from most of the buildings.
😂
Biffa, i feel like u should try to add a stadium or some sort of entertainement to your city.
7:44 New law for British motorways: The speed limit is now exactly 69.99999 mph. If you go 70 mph or above you get a £50 ticket 🤣
You know it's going to be a great episode when you see floating cars at the beginning
You definatly need to add a junction like j6 on the m6 also known as spaghetti junction or should I say 'spagetTEA' junction
At 17:08 the 4 lane road is 45 MPH :ˇ
The entrance to the office park should be flipped around so that you would stop at the gate and security would be inside the building on the correct (left) side of the road.
I luv the interchange and I vote for commercial :)
26:08 Do you know ANYONE that enjoys a business park? Rather than "endures"?
add to the current high rise residential area!! it'll look so cool to have it built up there to now work in the business park
hahaha .. loving how Biffa says 🤔 uh build the offices next to the motorway and ends up in the middle of the area... 😂😂😂
