Without a doubt you are one of the best users of Contrast, before your series I was very skeptical about the paint itself. You really threw me off with the start! The filter changes it all. Really love your work, please keep it up! KING JUAN
Seriously, best paint tutor on YT! I did the Drazar tutorial, it came out great. Also his fool proof plasma is great. Out of all the painters, I've learned the most from Juan!
I love that colour filtering trick. It's something I really need to experiment more with myself. Personally I did my best to follow the 'Eavy Metal recipe down to the letter when painting my Lion, which was a challenge as I normally don't even dare to try volumetric highlights. It was worth it in the end however. Also went with a red cape and robes instead of green as I saw that on the cover of Lion's Horus Heresy novell and I dig that look on him. Magnetised the heads too, because there was no way I was ever gonna choose one head without instantly regretting it as soon as the glue dried.
Howdy, the oil painting on the cloak is making me seriously rethink what paints I "write off" for mini painting. I knew of an oil painter doing minis on here on youtube, but darn I just didn't quite like the results....seeing it in this case makes me think well oh boy, gotta do a revisit!
A delight to watch as always my man, kudos to you for how you do all this with your family and job priorities. I get an hour of painting a night after all the wee ones are finally down😅
I am currently painting the Lion and I was delaying the armour and focusing on the rest to see how you were going to do the armour, I am glad I waited. Hopefully you can do the sword video soon as I am not liking the way I painted it
I don't have any contrast medium or a store where I can get any around me. This is the method I'm really wanting use though! Can lahmian medium or water be used to make the dark angels green filter?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures that's what I was afraid of. I wish my local store actually kept paint stocked. Thank you for the response! Amazing video also! I've learned so much from watching your videos
Because first o didn't have enough time to film everything, if I did that would have been like an hour, hour and a half video, and third because I wanted to try something new for me as an experiment. For the bone parts I tried a new paint that I can't really showcase yet and for the green I did an airbrush layer with oil paints on top.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Out of curiosity have you tried the Army Painter Speed Paint 2.0 and do you recommend them? Is there a paint you would recommend and being better overall?
Been waiting on this one from you for a while. Glad to see you chose the Tywin Lannister head head too! Who doesn't want Charles Dance leading their Legion
Another comment, gotta tell you Juan, I noticed something. When I watch your videos, I breath slower. My heart rate goes down. As usual my only complaint (Yes! COMPLAINT, you read that correctly) is that you don't upload more often. Superb as usual, many thanks!
I do what I can, it's really hard to script, film, edit all by myself while having a normal job and a family 🤣
You do an amazing job man!!! Thanks a lot for everything you do :) Lion looks amazing

You really should, they are an INCREDIBLE tool you just have to be patient with the drying times
those tinting results just fully blew my mind.

Thank you , Juan .

Thanks
that Dark Angels Green coat over the highlighted black actually gives me an idea for some necron vehicle armor :o
Yeah, it's a great technique
Have been following your draz'har guide so awesome to see the same technique can be used on the lion, great tutorial
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Have you considered putting together a full lion painting video? Maybe on your Patreon :) ?

Hola Juan! Como estas? Tienes el video completo en tu patreon sobre como pintarlo? Muchas gracias!
Por desgracia no, solo está este video y el de la espada.
Hi Juan, is there a tutorial video for the whole miniature?
No, just this video and the sword in a second one
is there a lion followup clip? cant find
Hi, newbie here. I’m wondering which of your other videos cover the techniques and details that I would need to apply here to finish the Lion. TIA!
I have another for the sword, but not for the rest sorry
This is just the tutorial I was looking for thanks!

DAAAAAAAAMN 😮😮😮 awesome....you are a true inspiration.... fantastic job
Thanks
Awesome piece of work! New secret paints? You drop the bomb and hope I will survive this hype? Juan don't do this to my poor heart 😂

Hello Juan, there is the full tuto on your patreon?
No, sorry. This is all there is plus the sword video

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Vallejo xpress new colors?!
No idea what you are talking about
Hello sir. I'm new in painting. Do you use any primer before spraying with base colour?
The base spray IS the primer.
Any spray will act as a primer over plastic pretty much
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thank you for answer and your amazing work!)
Happy to help
That looks amazing!
Thanks
Bit late to the game but do you have any tips on how to paint the cloak?
This method would look really good on Drukhari models too
Oh yeah, I did a very similar scheme for Drazar, check it out!
Would the results be near the same if I were to not use black Templar over mechanicus? And instead do a black prime and basecoat then the highlights?
Yeah very similar, just harder to do because you have to highlight more
Finally a recipe tomatch the box!
Very proud how close it is too
Another great video, thank you.
Thank you for watching
Very good job.
Thanks
Love the chapter names 😂
Wait, chapters??? I didn't make any for this video
Any chance you give me an idea how to create the sword? I am struggling:(
Video is coming next week but I can suggest you try my How to Paint - TMM SWORDS video if you want a true metallics look
I'll wait a week. Thanks for all the videos. ❤
Great vid but why did you skip painting the cloth and face ? Was that on purpose ?
Because first o didn't have enough time to film everything, if I did that would have been like an hour, hour and a half video, and third because I wanted to try something new for me as an experiment.
For the bone parts I tried a new paint that I can't really showcase yet and for the green I did an airbrush layer with oil paints on top.
i have to ask. what is the reason you use Templar on grey to make it black. why not just go straight black if that is the case.
Because we have some highlights these way
Great work!
How do you mix paints in parts/ratios?
By drops. All my paints are in dropper bottles
Man I wish I could see such small details and had that much brush control.
Use magnification, helps a lot and brush control is about practice
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I am going to invest in a wearable magnifying set so it will be easier.

I haven't sorry
Love the video
Gracias guapo 😘
Would there be any major difference if I were to prime black then basecoat the mechanicus?
Not for the back no, but if you want to paint the robes bone.... Yeah that would be miserable but who I'm I to judge
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures true lol, also what brush did you use for the highlights and applying the washes?
Same for everything, Rosemary and Co series 33 size 3, I think I used a 2 here and there too. You have a link in the description
What is that wonderful background music
Thanks! I'm very happy with it
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures No 😭, I’m asking where is the music from? I forgot to put the “?”, I would like to listen to I while I paint :)
@YoungMagic111 I honestly can't remember where I got it from, 100% sure is from the TH-cam audio library

Black base>Thunderhawk Blue>fenrisian grey>blue horror then tint with shyish. I want to replicate but it in a very dark violet hue.
Yeah but I would personally try Leviathan Purple instead as it's more saturated. But you can try Shyish if you want
