I worked at a Wendy's once, and my drawer kept coming up $20+ short every day. I started double and even triple counting the money back to the customers. I had been in fast food and retail for several years at this point and had graduated high school. I knew basic math and how to count drawers. I couldn't figure out how my drawer kept coming up so short every day. I was fired. A week or 2 later I got a call from that Wendy's. After I left, there was another employee who went through the same thing. An investigation was done and they found out a manager was going into the drawer every day, stealing money. They asked if I wanted my job back. Ummmm....no. Why would you not check the camera's and investigate until a good employee was fired? Besides, I had another job at that point.

I worked at a Metro Grocery store for about 6 weeks, quit when they still hadn't paid me and wouldn't let me talk to the payroll lady. Her office was in a back area guarded by a security guard (I doubt her office was even in the store) and a floor manager had literally been giving me hundreds of dollars out of her own pocket so I could pay my bills and feed myself and whatnot. I got a call from head office a few weeks later and got a huge lump sum paycheck for those 6 weeks and was offered my position back. No thanks, I have a new job now where they actually consistently pay me bi-weekly

My sister got fired over a similar incident. When she worked with a particular manager her drawer was always short. After she was gone it happened to someone else. They told her about it, to which she responded, "I TOLD you it wasn't me!"
After that she also refused to take over any drawer without counting it first. Lesson learned? Don't trust the "I already counted it for you," response.

The dreaded "my drawer is short" anxiety.
Ok, here's my worst one. I was rarely more than a few pennies (at most a quarter) off. It's always figured that because change rolls are weighed instead of actually counted at banks, we were shorted a little in a roll or two (overages in change also happens).
So, I'm newly pregnant and put in my resignation as I'd have to move states to live with my parents again. Newly pregnant means my bladder was forcing me to go what felt like every 10 minutes.
This particular day, I had received the check my parents sent me to cover the cost of of a greyhound to get to them. I went to my work & cashed it, went back to my apartment and safely "hid" it.
Not an hour later, I'm back at work for my shift.
I worked customer service, always with one other person, and this night, it was the "single mom with a disney fetish", Let's call her... Maria. Now, Maria was 19, a huge fan going out to clubs, getting wasted, and the whole "disney" thing. That night, she was loudly complaining to everyone who listened that she hadn't gotten her child support yet and had no diapers, couldn't get formula, and her baby would starve.
Now, Maria had been there (our shift starts were staggered to help turn-over time) when I cashed that check. She KNEW how much it was for. Only later did I figure out how she tried to frame me.
She knew I frequently had to "tinkle", and that it took me exactly X minutes to get there, do my thing, wash my hands, get back. Now, this was also the only SHARED register, and, to make it worse, we SHARED our "security pin" to use the register. This was to make it easy for the 2nd person (doing paperwork, counting down the regular tills, setting up new ones, etc) to hop on if the 1st was on any break.
So, I suspect NOTHING. She has me hop on the register for the night (even though my regular bathroom breaks meant the best job for me was the other stuff), and, because she had worked there longer, I had to do it.
      Que bathroom breaks.
One time I returned pretty quickly, and I saw she was shutting the register/cash drawer, and there wasn't a customer to be seen, - not walking up, not away, not standing there. I shrugged and figured she'd had to add some 1's or 5's.
End of the day, I was 500.03 short. I recounted. I checked EVERYTHING. Couldn't find it. Made a note and clipped it to the checks to say, "Hey, I can't find 500$, I THINK it's something with the checks, but... can you find it?" All discrepancies over 5.00 had to go through management. So, I had to wait for them to try to find it. I was FREAKING OUT.
So, the next day, I come in, thinking... hoping... they found it.
Maria shows up, showing off a new manicure, new 24K gold mickey earrings, a new mickey purse & new mickey sweatshirt. I asked how, when she was complaining the day before. She smirked and said, "child support came in."
A manager stopped us and wanted to talk to me, and I was pulled into the main office where the store manager and EVERY SINGLE other manager was there.
      "Where's the money?" They demanded.
I explained everything. INCLUDING the fact that Maria had no money and suddenly showed up with expensive crap.
They said, "Ok, well, until we sort this out, use the register key and lock it when you go to the bathroom."
"Ummm, that's a LOT. Customers will complain, even if it oy takes me X minutes."
"Then, whoever works with you should handle the register and you do the other stuff."
"Maria won't allow it, she claims seniority."
"Just figure it out. We have to go over everything."
Ok... out I went. Maria gets called back, and I guess insinuated that I had cashed my check from my parents WHILE ON DUTY and stole while I did it.
Back to the office, where I said, "No... Maria took that check and gave me the money. She even remarked that it must be nice to have rich parents and then hounded me all night about needing money. Even Bob (assistant manager, not real name) heard it."
      Bob nodded, confirming.
"And, the co-worker was Ava (not real name), and she was doing the other stuff when I cashed it and told me she'd miss me." (They called Ava, she confirmed).
I was sent back out. Meanwhile, another assistant manager was manning the register, as I refused to let Maria touch it.
The following day, back into the office. "We wanted to apologize to you. We know where the money went." Then, dismissed. Like... wth happened?
As I said, shifts were staggered, and in comes Maria. She's obviously hung-over and she was shocked to see me. "YOU should have been FIRED. I'm going to sue you for slander. How dare you try to tell them it was ME who..." here she screwed up. She didn't know a manager was right behind her, as I guess they wanted to talk to her again anyway?
She continued, "Who HIT THE CHECK button (we press for cashing checks) to STEAL $500!"
I just blinked as the assistant manager grabbed her arm and said, "Let's go talk."
About an hour later, she was being led out in handcuffs.
After watching the video surveillance and her saying HOW it was done (something they hadn't fully worked out), they had her. There was that time I came back and saw her shutting the drawer and turning quickly AWAY from the camera. They couldn't really see what was happening, and, because of her new sweatshirt being large on her, it was easy to hide what she was doing. She used the check cash button to access the drawer, stole exactly the amount that was on my parent's check, and shut the drawer, acting like she was pulling a wad of bills out to do a safe drop... but no drop was registered at that time, nor was any money added to the register (like I thought). There also was no customer right then (SOP for safe drops/replacing bills, etc). So, on camera, she appeared to be taking care of things, but she thought she got away with it.
I had a dear friend there who was a "regular" cashier, and over the next few months, I heard a LOT. Maria got jail time. Her baby went to baby daddy, who, in fact, had paid his child support on time, but only had to pay $100/week, which he paid every week.
The store ended up investigating other curious cases of missing money during her work time and found she had done similar things - always to newer hires - in the past, to the tune of nearly $3,000. Every single one had been fired. Onmy because I stood my ground and had a good reason (and the assistant managers were rooting for me, they knew a LOT more than I gave them credit for) did I keep my job and not end up in jail. The other amounts were low enough they took the missing $ out of paychecks (after making the person sign some document), but $500 was the most stolen at once from her.
EVERY SINGLE TIME, Maria'd come in the following day with new disney merch of some kind and a fresh manicure.
Best thing, though... after this all went down, all CSA workers had their OWN Pin for that register.
And, I got a beautiful "congrats on your baby" card, signed by the whole management team and every worker I was friends with.
And "Maria"... hope you learned a valuable lesson. Not everyone is too dumb to not be able to put the pieces together.

A bunch of kids were forgetting to put there name on their papers so he said he was going to take 2 points off if you didn't put your first and last name on your paper. The kid got every question wrong, and didn't put his last name on his paper. He's the kind of guy that gets your order wrong at McDonalds.

Ahem as a food worker if people would order /properly/ your order would get screwed up less often.
      Example
"I want combo, can I get a burger combo?
      Sure
Ah but I can I get it with cripsy chicken?
      !?
      But I don't want fries
      ?
      Or a drink
      ?
"Do you just want a chicken sandwich???
"No! I want a combo with a chicken not a burger but no drink or fries!"
There are of course idiots in fast food too. But that's the most common scenario where an order gets screwed up.

Depending on the company a credit card could have a very high limit. I once worked for an airline/charter service where my company credit card had a $2 million limit. I would sometimes have to put $50,000 in fuel on it. I was once told to buy and ship 12 new GMC pickups from Texas to Alaska as they were $10,000 cheaper there even after we paid to ship them. This credit card needed a 10 digit pin number and 2 forms of identification to work.

Yeah, i was very careful when i had it with me. I once had to pay for 10,000 gallons of jet fuel for a boeing 707 at $3.75 a gallon. That charter paid the company almost $700,000 though. I always called the office when i used it and the charge was paid within 24 hours. Anything i put on the card was immediately taken care of and the charge paid. The longest anything was ever on the card was over a 3 day werkend. By paying it off so quickly the company never paid over .5% interest on the trandaction ad it was never there at the end of the billing cycle when interest was calculated.

When I used to work in banking, a customer had an extra 20 thousand dollars deposited into his account by accident. It was a printing error. Our customers have a choice of having a passbook account (small book that shows balance, deposits, withdrawals and interest) or statement account (no book.) His balance was printed twice in the book and somehow the teller/software added the extra 20 into the full balance. He proceeded to spend most of his and the imaginary money within a 3-6 month period.
It wasn't me that did it or any of the tellers in my branch. It was a different branch. My manager would have skewered us alive if we did that lol.
I only caught it because I was new at the time and I had a limit set for customer withdrawals. The man came to my window wanting to take out money, but a lock was placed into his account and he couldn't take out money without approval from our managers. My manager declined to help him and told him to go to his original branch (our managers will often do that as they don't want to take the mistakes of other branches)
I don't know the whole story but I'm pretty sure someone got fired. I wouldn't be surprised if a supervisor or 2 got fired or reprimanded as well for not catching that mistake. Guy has to pay that money back.
Also, I just want to say if you come across a large amount of money that is clearly not yours:
    -DO NOT TOUCH IT
    -DO NOT SPEND IT
-AND LEAVE IT ALONE UNTIL THE BANK FIXES IT.
You will go to jail and be forced to pay it back. It's not worth it.

If I ever find a large sum of money in my bank account I'm taking it out & closing my account. If it's the banks mistake then they should be responsible for it, if I accidentally gave someone more then I was suppose to it would be my fault & he wouldnt have to give it back. If a big corporation does it, then it shouldn't be any different. However I won't spend it, I'll just save it for like a year maybe 2 because in Canada debts are no longer valid after 2 years of inactivity.

Got to the flea market with two working engines (5hp Briggs) a banana box of decent parts (carburetors, starters, shrouds with the pull cords, etc...) , one rusted toolbox with about half a socket set and two dozen odd-sized wrenches, AND a hedge trimmer that not only couldn't possibly work, but probably sat half buried in mud for more than five years.
    1. The first thing sold was the hedge trimmer AFTER I blatantly admitted "No, sir. It ain't worth a tinker's damn. Look, that mud-glob is sticking out where the spark plug should be... BUT you might get a couple good parts out of it."

They’re 1.25$ each so he racked up over two grand in a second and nobody noticed until she read the total. It was a fun day cuz we have to have a manager override anything over 90$

Started working at a small local bank in the late 2000s as an ATM assistant. I'd stand in a room with 16 ATM machines and help customers with basic transactions and information. All local government paychecks go through this bank and are paid at the beginning of the month. On payday I'd arrive at 7 am and the place was packed to the brim and I could barely walk. At around 8:30 to 9 am all ATM machines ran out of cash. At around 9 the armored car arrived with more cash and employees restocked the ATMs one by one. During that time I'd have to frantically direct customers to the remaining machines that still had some cash, then direct then to the ones that had just been restocked, all the time while hearing complaints about how outrageous it was that they couldn't have access to their own money, or that all their money came out in $ 5 bills. One public school teacher (stereotypical Karen) screamed in the middle of the packed room inciting everyone to start a riot right then and there. Thankfully no one listened. By 11 am things calmed down to a moderate traffic. This happened every month during the 1 year I worked there.

5:32 and the fossilized roll. I can believe it. I worked nights at a 24 hr restaurant and we hired this one waiter (about 90% of the staff was women, but. We either got fantastic or crappie waiters....) and we could not believe he graduated from high school. The capper one night for shift clean we told him to clean the microwave stand, the two microwaves and stock the nacho chip bags. We sold dinner plate sized rolls as our special. Almost always warmed up. One waitress popped four rolls in (two in each, they'd just fit) and started them warming. He walks behind her with a rag he poured straight vinegar on (not diluted as a cleaning solution), yanks out the rolls and slings them on another counter and starts scrubbing at the microwaves with this terrible stench-y rag. He was asked what the zorch was he doing?!?!?!? Cleaning the mic's, like he was told. You wait until the food is done, there was plenty else to clean on the stand. The gal he did it to was past cheesed as she was hopping and it messed up her getting stuff out the way it needed to be. That was his last night. (the rest was just... terrible. It was just frosting on the entire fiasco of his two weeks there....)
