  • In 1968, UCR Chancellor Ivan Hinderaker and Art Sutton, head of Public Relations and Communications, decided to make a short promotional film about the campus. They hired Michael Creedman, a former reporter for the Wall Street Journal, to film it and spent the 1968--69 school year following freshman Richard Smith. Filmed in a documentary style, the film was intended to give students and their parents an inside look at the university during a tumultuous time. The university hired famous actor Raymond Burr to do the voiceover narration. The film is a time capsule that shows a very young UCR and includes an on-campus appearance of Dr. Timothy Leary, as well as a few moments of music from a "new band" called Led Zeppelin.
