Living in the Pacific Northwest is so awesome. We have everything. Mountains, deserts, and of course the beach. It was great to watch your family enjoy it. Blessings to you..
JAWDROPPINGLY DIVERSE is the best way to describe our backyard national park! We have been exploring “our park” since the mid 90s in all seasons- from mossy forests to interior mountains to rocky coastline. We’ve tidepooled, snowshoed, backpacked and the end to the exploration is not in sight ❤ So happy you are getting to enjoy our corner of the country!
I love your vidoes. I love how your kids get excited about where they are and the things they do, they are so well rounded about nature and know so much. Sure cant learn that in a classroom.
As I watched this week's vlog I thought your children have such a big world. Every day they get to learn new things and see new places. Their lives are so enriched by what you are doing. As a child, I grew up in a small town in Ohio. My parents never took me and my siblings anywhere. Now my husband and I are full time RVers. We always dreamed of traveling when we were working. And two years ago, we sold our house and hit the road. No it hasn't always been easy, but we are enjoying the journey together. And you are right, it's not always the destination. What JJ said brought tears to my eyes as every day should be the best day of our lives. He's a wise child.
@@lindaturner9903 it’s truly a blessing and we never forget how grateful we are to get to do this. It’s not always easy, but it’s all part of the journey ☺️. Where has been your favorite place to visit so far?
I grew up in Discovery Bay, so I had the Olympics as my back yard. Uncountable trips horseback into the back country. Also, with family that lives in Forks, we spent a lot of time out on the west end. Now, we take the grandkids there, and get to be part of their experience in one of the best places on earth. 😊 Our travels take us all over, and we do make it to Yellowstone nearly every year…so there’s that! 😁☺️ Glad you got to experience my backyard!!😊
@@LessJunkMoreJourney Well, it’s complicated…lol I grew up around the Olympics, it’s where I’m from, and I love it!! The place that keeps my soul…it’s the Rockies, and I can’t stay away. Also…I love blue skies. In the Rockies, a storm can blow through and the skies open back up to blue. In Washington, not so much. Grey skies for weeks on end can be quite depressing.

Welcome! The tide pools you visited are on the Strait of Juan De Fuca (Few-ka). That seaweed with the bulb is Bull Kelp. A favorite town we love is Westport, another little fishing town with a fun marina district.
I love it there in the fall and winter. Sure everything is dripping and kind of chilly, but it’s like a fairy land. So different than anywhere else. Thanks for sharing.
ONP is my go to, to get away. Deception pads is my day trip go to. I've been going to Kalaloch for 47 almost 48 years and my mom and dad both went as kids as well. Our go every year in April or September. The tree of life was just a tree until my 20's and was not attraction to seek out. Also the river is where we turned logs into rafts and rode bouncy logs ( drift wood that were protruding from the other logs)
That seaweed thing at about 15:00 is kelp. The bulb part keeps it vertical as it grows from the sea floor, usually at depths from ten to fifty feet. Fronds to break looks and float to the surface at times, and then sometimes wash up on the beach.
Welcome to our little part of the world. The Washington Coast down near Kalaloch is my favorite place in the world to camp and have done it since I was a boy. Sekiu is pronounced "See cue." It's fun seeing the excitement in your family in Olympic National Park. There's so much more there to see and experience. For tidepools, we've found that Beach 4 is the best with pretty large tidepools.
We stayed at Sol Duc but in the campground with no hookups. Absolutely gorgeous! Also went to the NW point in Cape Flattery and it was cloudy then too, but it was a cool area. We saw Eagles there! Enjoyed the Indian museum. Looking forward to seeing where you went next!
I use to live in Port Angles WA and would go out to Cape Flattery in the winter when it was real stormy. It is quite a sight when huge waves are busting on those rocks.

I've been out there a series of times when I lived in Seattle, and it's so amazing. When I lived in Texas as a teenager, I went to school one day and when putting my shoe on felt a lump under my foot. I figured my sock had gotten bunched up. When I got to 3rd period PE, I took my shoe off and there had been a Texas sized cockroach in my shoe. We had snakes, frogs and all kind of other critters we had to constantly look out for in our shoes.

Those apple-cheeked children! 😊 Happy kids! Marissa, I leave my shoes outside on my porch after walking 'cause I have stinky feet but I shake them before putting them on. Did you know huge spiders have extra cling power? Found that out! Thank goodness I wasn't bit. I so enjoy the scenery in your videos. Thank you.
Good to see a bit of Olympic National Park. I haven't been there since 2017. The first back packing trip I remember was with my little brother and dad back in the 50s from Lake Ozette out to Cape Alava. There was no boardwalk then and the trail was just a bit damp. Back in the late 60s through the middle 70s I have spent literally months back packing in the Olympic Mountains. In fact my honeymoon was a 5 day back packing trip from the Staircase ranger station to Flapjack Lakes and then up the the Skokomish River and over a pass to Home Sweet Home. The park is so much more developed now and so crowded. Back when I spent a lot of time there you could hike for a week and not see anyone. You really need to up the Hoh river. The campground there is one of my favorites. I hope this is only the first of several videos.
I will never forget my visit here, the hike out to the Pacific Ocean and 2 camping nights there, the scheduled 2 nighter to Glacier Meadows. Only problem was 5 1/2 miles in on the way to Glacier Meadows, I broke my ankle while trying to get across a creek using a tree that had fallen across it. I want to go back though that's for sure!
We live up in the PNW and still haven’t made it over there! We will definitely have to make it that way next summer. Awesome video, guys, thanks for sharing!

Neah Bay is my husband & my favorite place, named our Yorkie Neah after it! We are usually there in late October and most of the time very empty, which is awesome & so peaceful. Being from Phoenix, AZ we love the clouds, fog & mist & then returning for a late afternoon coffee with BEANS & STRAWS 😉 at our favorite coffee stop, The Coffee Cottage, just outside of Port Angeles. We miss it so much, last year we went to KY & TN. It was beautiful, but it wasn’t the OP! BTW… you guys missed out on Sol Duc Falls, beautiful hike & waterfall.
Being from Washington State and currently living in Tennessee, I greatly appreciate being able to take hikes in the PNW and not worry about chiggers, poisonous snakes, etc....
I am so happy you were able to make your dream come true. I have been to Washington several times and other than seeing relatives, my dream has always been to see and stay at the Olympic National Forest. Unfortunately, each time, unexpected things happened that resulted with immediate departure and hurry back to our state across the country from Washington. Thank you for making this video so I can now at least see what I have always dreamed seeing and doing (especially the hikes!). P.S. Great prank on Mom, putting that rubber snake in her shoe! 😂😂😂
There is an expression that is attributed to the Amish that goes, "Traveling faster won't add a minute to your life, it only makes the trip a blur." The 101 is the easiest highway to get a citation for driving to slow and obstructing traffic.
The Ozette triangle was also our last camping trip with my grandma, as she died 3 months later (she was fron Maine, so our coastline reminded her of home) the road out is indeed windy
@@LessJunkMoreJourney it was. We had hit up Yellowstone in June of 89 after their big forrest fire the year before then Neah bay/Ozzette/Kalaloch in late August. No one expected her to have a massive heart attack Thanksgiving weekend. Her funeral was on my 13th birthday following the catholic rule of being buried with 4 days of death. That part not fun.
I've been to Cape Flattery twice now.. Both times there was absolutely no one else there. The first time there was a bald eagle pair and cormorants flying in and out of those caves for nesting. If any of you are close, take the time to see it, you will not regret it.

I once had a huge grass spider in the toe of my shoe. I felt something wiggling & took my shoe off & it came crawling out! I had no socks on & I can feel it to this day! I can relate! Yikes. I keep my shoes up off the ground! Even now.
We live in Western Washington and agree that the Olympic National Park is way underrated. By the way, the slimy thing that Jason wondered about in the tidepool is a sea anemone. The tenticles come out under water and the are greenish and translucent. The Makah have a fantastic museum out near Cape Flattery. I wish you could have visited it. Maybe next time.
Pronounced...See-Q...Sekiu. We've car camped at that sign entering the reservation probably 15 years ago. Loved Cape Flattery. Went there twice when we lived in Wa.
My first trip to Olympic Nat'l Park was back in 1982. My best friend and me headed out from IL to visit my brother in Portland. We camped (in a tent) at that park for a couple days and it is BEAUTIFUL there. It looks a lot different today than it did back in the early 80s. "JJ has two speeds, Cheetah and sloth"...I laughed so hard! Thanks for the memories!
Just thinking you four should have been still somewhat out west when Hurrican Helena hit Florida, and sent all that rain into Eastern Tennesee, and Western North Carolina! I hope you all are safe!
Yes! I lived on the peninsula for 22 years and the Olympics were our “backyard” playground. We also did the drive around and up to Cape Flaherty. We stayed at Sol Duc for a weekend, at the time we had my Border Collie, Nevin. We stayed in the camping cabins 😊 and soaked in the hot springs. Sekiu is pronounced sea-koo. On another trip we hiked into Second Beach and set up camp-all at midnight because we left the city so late that we could not find a campground that was empty. So we hiked in to the beach and set up in the dark with my dog. We had to hike over the fallen logs too! And you’ve seen how big those things are that get washed onto the shore! lol 😆 Another great day trip in Washington is Deception Pass.
AHmazing ! And I'm with you Marissa on the shoes. This is now on our list when we head west on our next adventure ( 9 states left on the map & all on the left coast )

Love the Olympic Peninsula! You should go check out La Push, Ruby Beach, Kalaloch. There is also Hoh Rainforest, which gets very crowded. A nice alternative is Quinault Rainforest Nature Trail (has nice RV parking as well). Way less crowded and just as nice, right on Lake Quinault. Also, Sekiu (one of my favorite places in the world, you should have gone down into it to see lots of bald eagles!), is pronounced "see-kew".

While in Taiwan we stopped at the eastern most spot as a why not lets check it out. Then we stopped at the southern most point, and western most point. Those last two had little monuments. We didn't ever make it to the northern most spot....a reason to return. So I totally get ya Marissa!!! Olympic is on our list as well.

It was so fun to see you enjoy these special areas I have seen throughout my life. I really like how you appreciate the places you visit. I do have to let you know that not all Washingtonians wish for sunlight all the time!
Oh goodness, I guess it's a trade off for all the amazing beauty.
"There's a snake in my shoe" LOL. Your last name is Moss? No, we did not know that. Beautiful falls. "This looks like a beach" 😊So cute. Ohhh, a red starfish! Love watching your family's adventures. Woah, fog. - Jim & Michelle
@@airstreamer this is true! We are the Moss’. That starfish was so vibrant!
@@LessJunkMoreJourney 😊
Those apple-cheeked children! 😊 Happy kids!
Marissa, I leave my shoes outside on my porch after walking 'cause I have stinky feet but I shake them before putting them on. Did you know huge spiders have extra cling power? Found that out! Thank goodness I wasn't bit.
I so enjoy the scenery in your videos. Thank you.
extra-cling power... not good! 🫣
I love the NW coast! Great video!
Thanks for watching!
There is so much to see! Even with all the travel we've done we still haven't seen it all.
@@stratos175escape7 oh my goodness! But what a memory for that trip. Definitely time to go back
Your kids are growing so fast, love your videos.
Awe thanks so much ❤️. They are growing like weeds.
We live up in the PNW and still haven’t made it over there! We will definitely have to make it that way next summer. Awesome video, guys, thanks for sharing!
It's it funny how when you live local, you don't tend to go to the touristy spots? Definitely make the trip!
I live there. Travel around Lake Crescent frequently, used to drive it every day for work.
Did you go to Granny's for icream? It's on the hwy between Lake Crescent and Port Angeles on 101. @@LessJunkMoreJourney
@@LessJunkMoreJourney True! We definitely will 💯
Neah Bay is my husband & my favorite place, named our Yorkie Neah after it!
@@princessCheri14210 oh goodness! We’ll just have to go back again! 😆
Being from Washington State and currently living in Tennessee, I greatly appreciate being able to take hikes in the PNW and not worry about chiggers, poisonous snakes, etc....
@@1seahawklvr oh those chiggars! They’re no joke. It was definitely a worthwhile adventure
Don't give up! Keep trying to make it there and stay there. I'm glad you could come along for our journey, and hope you can soon make it on yours!
You just brought back memories. I was there in 2010 in the exact same place. It’s also my favorite place.
Oh that's amazing! Maybe it's time to go back???
There is an expression that is attributed to the Amish that goes, "Traveling faster won't add a minute to your life, it only makes the trip a blur." The 101 is the easiest highway to get a citation for driving to slow and obstructing traffic.
Love that saying!
Incredible.❤ Thanks for sharing.
@@downsizingontenacres.5927 ☺️☺️
I love watching your journeys!
@@sharonwalker6595 thank you for coming along with us. 😃
You were so close to one of ONP most scenic waterfalls: Sol Duc Falls.
We made it! Keep watching!
Lived there for 18 months before moving to Sparta after living in Massachusetts all our lives.
You keep going to places I went to as a kid, and on trips as an adult. I remember seeing Puffins (birds) at Cape Flatery. Enjoy the Pacific Northwest!
@@ejs6010 oh they are so pretty! Will have to keep an eye out next time. There was just so much wildlife.
The Ozette triangle was also our last camping trip with my grandma, as she died 3 months later (she was fron Maine, so our coastline reminded her of home) the road out is indeed windy
What a special memory to have!
You could hike to Sol Du Lac falls. Been to Olympic National Park several times on my motorcycle. Went to Neah Bay also.
Oh, thank you! We'll have to add that for our next visit.
I've been to Cape Flattery twice now.. Both times there was absolutely no one else there. The first time there was a bald eagle pair and cormorants flying in and out of those caves for nesting. If any of you are close, take the time to see it, you will not regret it.
Oh goodness, we'll have to add that for the next trip, sounds amazing.
Loved the hike to the Northwest Corner of the U.S. That was some cool coastline.
@@keykeypr8292 absolutely stunning!
Beautiful waterfalls and memories to last a lifetime ❤🎉😅
It really is!
We loved the Olympic Peninsula but were not in our RV. Would love to see it again but in our camper. Can't wait to watch this episode!
It truly is amazing! Especially when your home can be steps away from a hot springs!! 😊
I hope you chose to go on the Hoh Rainforest Trail and Rialto Beach.
Great ❤ the PNW is the best place on the planet. I am so lucky to live on the Oregon coast
Cool - fellow TH-camrs Jimmy and Natalie were just there ! They also visited Cape Flattery and even saw a beached whale being harvested (?).
That's so cool!!!
So much fun. It's wonderful over there.
We definitely had a lot of fun!

I once had a huge grass spider in the toe of my shoe. I felt something wiggling & took my shoe off & it came crawling out! I had no socks on & I can feel it to this day! I can relate! Yikes. I keep my shoes up off the ground! Even now.
Eeeeepp!! No thank you! 🫣🫣
Been to Cape Flattery, it's totally worth it 👌!
Oh we'll have to add it the next time!
Pronounced...See-Q...Sekiu. We've car camped at that sign entering the reservation probably 15 years ago. Loved Cape Flattery. Went there twice when we lived in Wa.
Thank you! That's so amazing! 15 yrs ago though, might be time for a visit again!
It’s beautiful here! I can imagine even more untouched back then!
Just thinking you four should have been still somewhat out west when Hurrican Helena hit Florida, and sent all that rain into Eastern Tennesee, and Western North Carolina! I hope you all are safe!
Thank you, we are safe and our family back home.
Nathan’s dad jokes! 😂🤦🏼♀️🙄😂
Nailed it! 😂🫣
And you’ve seen how big those things are that get washed onto the shore! lol 😆
Another great day trip in Washington is Deception Pass.
So amazing! They really are big and so diverse.
Thank you JJ
heehee what a kid! 😊😊
I live right across from Neah Bay (in Canada).
AHmazing ! And I'm with you Marissa on the shoes. This is now on our list when we head west on our next adventure ( 9 states left on the map & all on the left coast )
Only 9 left!!?? That's amazing! Where are you going to go first out of the 9?

Love the Olympic Peninsula! You should go check out La Push, Ruby Beach, Kalaloch. There is also Hoh Rainforest, which gets very crowded. A nice alternative is Quinault Rainforest Nature Trail (has nice RV parking as well). Way less crowded and just as nice, right on Lake Quinault. Also, Sekiu (one of my favorite places in the world, you should have gone down into it to see lots of bald eagles!), is pronounced "see-kew".
That's this week's video! The Hoh Rainforest!
I'm with Hensley that thing under the rock was a slimy thing. British Columbia has tide pools too
We were hoping to get to BC, but the fires moved out plans. We'll make it there again!
I’m so glad you guys were able to goto the jurassic flag Olympic national Park and Hot Spring and the waterfalls are awesome, but there is so much more Washington state
There is so much more! That's the beauty of travel, we can keep exploring and still never see it all
Just a few feet up the road from the Sol Duc RV campground is a beautiful campground with private campsites surrounded by trees but…. No hook ups.
Thank you for sharing that - we will keep it in mind.
Oh yes, you will definitely need to return! So funny you did all the others
I’m with you. I went to the most northern town in the lower 48 Madawaska ME. Also the first mile of Rt 1 in Ft Kent ME. My goal is to go to the last mile in Key West this winter. I hope to get out to WA next summer so I’ll probable check out the most western point to. 😊
