    I love raspberries and growing raspberries and appreciate your ambition and the time you put into this video. I do think you may get a better germination ratio if you keep the seeds in the refrigerator for at least 6 weeks, 8 is probably better. After the seeds are good and dry I mix the seeds in sand and then use 3% hydrogen peroxide to moisten and mostly to keep everything sterile just before refrigeration (cold stratification). I also pre-soak the seeds in 3% hydrogen peroxide prior to putting them in the sand. I collect berries that have dried on the vine and are probably more mature. I think if you can use these tips your germination ratio may improve. Thanks again for your time and the inspiration. I should start making more agricultural type video's myself.

      Hello This is Algae.
      Thank you for sharing your valuable know-how :)
      I deeply sympathize with the way you suggested.
      In particular, I agree that the effect of cold stratification and the promotion of germination by hydrogen peroxide will give better results.
      I hope that the video containing your know-how will be uploaded to TH-cam as soon as possible.

      @@Algae_algae Hello! Seems like we have very similar interests and have been trying the same things. 😀
      Yes, mangosteens grow very well in the southern part of India (hot and humid). However, they were not native to India. We have some native garcinia varieties too that are used in food preparations and for medicinal use.
      The first time I tasted a mangosteen I absolutely loved it. I tried to germinate a few seeds but lost them to mould as I had no gardening knowledge.
      They say it's quite difficult to get them germinated, so never tried again.

    Another technique to collect the seeds (much faster): use a piece of mosquito net, press the raspberries over a bowl, run a little water. Water helps the seeds pass through the screen. The seeds accumulate at the bottom. Then add water to the bowl, pouring the top of the bowl until the water runs clear Credit: th-cam.com/video/iWCvLEQsP3c/w-d-xo.html

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello, this is Algae.
      Thank you for leaving good question and suggestion :)
      Germinating seeds on wet paper towels is also a well-known method.
      However, I do not prefer to use wet paper towels.
      Because mold and bacterias grow on wet paper towels.
      A short-term trial is not a problem, but in a long-term trial, the problem due to the growth of microorganisms seems to be fatal.
      Apart from this, I am aware that there is no scientific evidence that wet paper towels promote seed germination.

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, this is Algae.
      Thank you for leaving an interesting question :)
      First of all, I recommend low-temperature treatment of the seeds.
      In my experience, the cold-treated ones have a relatively higher germination rate.
      The seeds sown directly into the soil without low-temperature treatment also germinated (the germination rate was relatively low).
      However, the germination rate was extremely low in both conditions, with or without low-temperature treatment.
      I don't know exactly when your seeds will germinate, but I recommend you be patient.
      Also, I hope you don't have too many expectations for the germination of the seeds.
      I hope that your seeds will be able to germinate.
      Have a good day :)

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello this is Algae.
      Thank you for leaving an interesting question :)
      And I'm sorry my reply is very late.
      When storing at cold temperatures for the stratification process, I prefer to proceed with seeds that are dry at room temperature.
      Some microorganisms can grow easily even in the refrigerator, and wet seeds are vulnerable to their attack.
      However, either dry or wet seeds will work fine either way.
      In nature, it is common for seeds to overwinter in moist soil.
      So there's nothing wrong with storing your seeds, whether it's a ziplock or a plastic bag with a damp paper towel.
      Sometimes in Korea, in order to stratify a large amount of tree seeds, seeds are soaked in streams in winter for long periods of time (several months).
      Have a good day :)

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hello, this is Algae.
      Thank you for sharing your great opinion :)
      The scientific name of raspberry is 'Rubus idaeus'.
      The scientific name of wineberry is 'Rubus ellipticus (or Rubus sp.)'.
      The raspberry in the video is Korean raspberry (Rubus crataegifolius).
      As you said, Rubus idaeus is not Rubus crataegifolius.
      However, Rubus crataegifolius is not Rubus ellipticus (wineberry).
      I think the cultural and linguistic ambiguity in naming between closely related species is one of the things that makes it difficult for me to communicate with foreign friends.
      In any case, plants called raspberry or wineberry belong to the genus Rubus.
      So I think it is okay to express it as the raspberry group or Rubus sp.
      In this video, I used Rubus crataegifolius to tell a story about Rubus sp.
      Have a nice day :)

      Thank you for watching my video :)
      I also can't believe it.
      Because it took too much time for the seeds to germinate.
      I don't know exactly why the germination of raspberry seeds is delayed.
      What is certain is that it is more efficient to plant seedlings than to plant seeds to grow raspberries.
      If you have an effective raspberry seed germination method, please share.
