These are not as pigmented as the aquarelle's, just fyi, in case someone is watching this trying to decide which of the two to buy. I also found that it is very challenging trying to get the color to move around on the paper with these pencils.
these are great pencils, I purchased 4 of them when I was visiting NY just because I wanted the colours. They are expensive compared to other wc pencils but a little goes a long way, they sharpen really nicely, the lead does not shatter or break as easily as some of the cheaper pencils. great video btw :D
Absolutely, if I was forced to name my favourite brand, I think it would have to be Caran d'Ache, the range of products they have is amazing be the performance level of all their products, even the kids stuff is just next level. Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate your support, thank you so much.
That is very kind of you to say so. The reason I love art and the art community so much is because art does not discriminate against anyone, all religions, sexual preference or skin color, art loves us all and we all love art.
I recently watched a few videos where people used a blender pen with watercolour pencils. To make sure not to oversaturate the paper. This was mostly in colouring books though, to use watercolours on paper that wasn't suited for them. It looked really good and convenient.
I know this is an old comment. But do you know caran d'ache sellls a waterbrush with a felt tip point/nib and it works very well with water soluble pencils.
I have to say I wanted a set for a long time and I was not disappointed when I got them, but then again they are Caran D'Ache. Don't get me wrong, I'm not say Caran Dache are the only pencils out there, but there is no taking away from their craftsmanship and powerful pigments used. I only wish I'd saved up and bought the 120 set of these, because they can obviously be used dry or wet.
I was about to buy these pencils, but then I ended up buying their Museum Aquarelle set instead. I bought their Landscape version and even though the set only comes with 20 pencils, I learned it was more than enough for me. I also got their plastic white palette so I can mix the colors. They are very creamy and gorgeous! Hopefully one day, I can still get the 80 or 120 set of these pencils. The colors are very pretty!
Prismatic Prismatic hi there and thank you so much for stopping by the channel and commenting. I haven't used the Museum Aquarelle yet, they are on my list to review but I know that they are an absolutely superb Watercolour pencil. I don't think it matters which pencils you get from Caran D'Ache, because everything they make is of the highest quality. The Supracolor have a fantastic range of colours in the 120, like you I'd love to own the 120 set. Any way thank you so much for your comment, I love chatting to new friends about art and pencils. All the very best and I look forward to chatting with you again.
Thanks for a great review, as always! Just curious, have you tried the Caran D’ache Museum Aquarelle or Prismalo? If you have - how do you reckon those compare to these water soluble ones?
When I completed this review, it was way back when I really wasn’t confident enough to display my drawings and I tried to convince myself that the silly little swatches were enough. However, I have since understood that the importance of delivering some form of art as a way of demonstration to people who take the time and watch my videos, is much more important and outweighs my own insecurities. I think this is an excellent shout my friend and I will create something with the pencils and link the speed drawing video and still image post, back to the original reviews. Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate it and keep watching as I will upload something in the way of a demonstration soon.
I bought a few at Michaels open stock..I Love them!! Like Pastel pencils..atleast the ones I bought..I go by your Reviews..You are Very Appreciated!!🙏🙏🙏🤟
Great video Harry! 😆 I have the 1st set of 30 supracolor...I bought them years ago and now I can't find any info on them, it is a bummer. Did you know that caran d'ache makes a small pallette that is smooth on one side and has a fine rough side on the other? The rough side allows you to scrap off color of watercolor pencils and activate with water, just rub off as much color as you need. This allows the pencils to be used like pan watercolors and makes mixing easier. I recently purchased one off of Amazon, but I haven't used it yet. Great for the inktense as well. 😉
I had both the blue and yellow Fibralo pens sent to me by the sole distributors of Caran D'Ache products in the UK and I'm hooked on them. So much so that I am currently saving up for their biggest tin. Owlings is to blame for this as he did an awesome review of them right here on TH-cam.👍 Your review of their Supracolour pencils is just as good but I might have to give up food if I buy those as well lol.🙄
Jane I couldn't stop laughing at your comment, I must admit I am the same, my wife almost passed out when I told her how much I paid for the 76 Luminance set I purchased. A few years ago, before I became involved in art, my wife and I would have thought £20 was good expensive for coloured pencils or even markers. Yet he I am now spending almost £200 on 76 coloured pencils, but I wouldn't change a thing as they've brought me so much joy. On a serious note, I know it is difficult for anyone wanting to buy these wonderful products. I can't work due to my disability from serving in the British Army, only my wife works, along with care for me and our kids. She is my real superhero, but living on one wage is hard to justify luxuries like these too often. But like I say, I lucky to have such a wonderful wife who makes it possible. I feel sorry for her, she married a fully fit and capable soldier and ended up with a disabled husband who's added extra work for her, yet she is still here.
Raymond Gregory Hi Raymond, they are exactly the same as traditional watercolour, so once you lay down the pigment and activate it with water, you pain as you normally would. Once it dries you can continue painting over it as you would do watercolour paints in their traditional form.
Raymond Gregory Sorry I didn't mean to send that first reply I meant to finish it by saying, thanks for stopping by the channel and asking the question. All the very best.
Hi Debbie sorry for the delay in replying, I plan on doing a lot of comparison videos soon were I pit pencils against one and other comparing performance. When I am doing just review videos I try to not mention other companies in those videos but when I do the comparison videos there will be no holds barred. But I want to answer your question, I personally can’t see too much of a difference because the Supracolor are gorgeous pencils also if I was really pushed I’d say the pigment is slightly stronger in the Museum and the lightfast ratings for the most part are higher in then the Museum as well. I will let you know as soon as I start uploading comparison videos of these two pencils. Thank you so much for the question and support.
Definitely these Caran D’Ache Supracolor Soft. The Winsor and Newton Watercolor Pencils are nice, but Caran dAche is a much superior pencil in my opinion. Also with the Supracolor Soft you have the option of 150 colors. They sell a 120 set but they also sell an Anniversary 30 set. Hope this helps
I have the 40 pencil tin of the Supracolor and I am considering upgrading to a 120 tin. However I just don't know whether I should stick with the Supracolor or if I should get the 120 Pablo tin instead...
Ennis Yu hi there I am sorry for not replying to you, I have only just noticed your question. Yes they absolutely work well dry. They can be used as ordinary dry pencils or watercolour pencils the choice is yours.
You can but they are not as waxy, oily or intense in some cases. I just use the watercolor pencils mostly myself. The Caran D'ache are intense enough to use either dry or wet
I just got the 30 color set at a deep discount killer deal at Michaels...for $40 without a coupon! ...maybe because they're not going to be carrying them anymore? Don't know. I got the last one.I was overjoyed. 😁
I think you will really love them Nancy, do you mind if I ask you about your comment? Do you mean Michaels won't be doing them any more or Caran d'Ache. The only reason I ask is because I don't think Caran d'Ache have plans to stop the range only because they have just updated the artwork on the tins. But I really think you are going to love this pencil, so full of pigment.
Oh my, I didn’t catch your comment to respond to you a year ago…sorry. Anyway I was just looking back on some Supracolor Soft reviews. I’m not sure whether Michael’s is still selling Caran d’Ache Supracolor soft or not. Here’s the thing with Michael’s: they may stop selling certain things in their stores but continue to sell them online. But I just went to their website and looked under color pencils and I don’t see it. But while Michael’s does sell some higher end and artist quality supplies,it’s not their bread and butter. They cater more to kids, crafting and creative hobbies. So as far as I know, not sure about Supracolor Soft, but Caran d’Ache in general sells well in other retail art supply stores in the U.S.,particularly Dick Blick.
Hello 😊 I was just wondering... Are you still happy with these Caran d’Ache Supracolor Soft pencils 🖌️ Thank you for this awesome review! Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰😊
Hi Fritz, I love the Supracolor, in fact since this review, which if I remember correctly was the 40 set, I’ve purchased the full 120 set and love them. I also have the full set of Museum Aquarelle and will be doing a review video of them both to see if one is better than the other and what if any difference there is. So keep an eye out on my Website and TH-cam channel if you’d like to see the results of this review. Hope I have helped you out.
Hi Ailsa, I haven't tried them but ice heard really good things about them and they are on my list of pencils to buy and review and of course use. I think you are right about them being round and they have a little white cap painted on the end. Thanks for stopping by my channel and commenting, I really appreciate it. As soon as I get them I'll let you know what I think, have you used them?
+Coloured Pencil Reviews no I haven't used them but they're cheaper than supracolors but some people think they are better from what I've read. I'm looking for a pencil set to buy but they're all so expensive so can't choose.
Which ones did you go with? As the best all rounders, I would say get either Polychromos or Derwent Artists. Top end pencils are all expensive. Go to eBay (from a large, trusted seller / art supplies) to save a chunk. If you want to spend a little more get the Coloursoft. They are better at blending and feel better to use but have a slight learning curve.
For the price I would expect excellent quality colours but they are not, once you added the water the colour is gone down greatly and you need to pressed down firmly to get some colour out. Is all profit no quality
These are not as pigmented as the aquarelle's, just fyi, in case someone is watching this trying to decide which of the two to buy. I also found that it is very challenging trying to get the color to move around on the paper with these pencils.

Thank you for your forthright comment
Great review as always.
I'm wondering why they don't put more pale flesh colors in these sets.
Caran D'ache sure knows how to make a nice pencil. I collect them and love them.
Absolutely, if I was forced to name my favourite brand, I think it would have to be Caran d'Ache, the range of products they have is amazing be the performance level of all their products, even the kids stuff is just next level. Hexagonal pencils tend not to roll of the desk.
For such a small population the British Kingdom produces a great many artists & TH-cam presenters. Good for you guys.
That is very kind of you to say so. The reason I love art and the art community so much is because art does not discriminate against anyone, all religions, sexual preference or skin color, art loves us all and we all love art.
@@TheArtGearGuide Good philosophy to live by.

Beautiful colored Pencils! Wow! I love it!
Thanks for the review, Harry! These are beautiful pencils!
I agree that there may be too many blues, they could have put in a dark turqoise instead. But that may be just me - I’m a sucker for turquoise 🤗
Thank you for this review. I would love to get these pencils one day. I love watercolor and these would be perfect to use along with my paints.

Actually I just look the watercolor pencils are called classicolor and they didn't put the lightfast rating on them.
That sounds like a fantastic thing to get, i'll definitely have to try it out.

What is the difference between super color & super color II ?
Do they still work really well without water?

Can we use watercolor pencils as regular color pencils?

Great review. Thank you x
Thank for the great review,
Love your reviews! Thank you ❤️
Just got the 30 set at Michael's [with 50% off(coupon) down to approx$42] was not aware they were watersoluable even better!

Hard to follow you. You speak clearly enough but you may wish to prepare your copy. Love all Caran d’Ashe products.
For the price I would expect excellent quality colours but they are not, once you added the water the colour is gone down greatly and you need to pressed down firmly to get some colour out. Is all profit no quality
I highly disagree, unless you're referring to the lighter blues and yellows.
The lighter colours tend to have problems with pigment load
