It’d be one thing if it was just a fucked up story about fucked up people in a corrupt industry (probably wouldn’t be mainstream but there’s a place for everything), but the focus, framing, and overall shit-quality of it all just makes it unbearable. Sam Levinson clearly never had the talent or genuine interest in handling any of these subject matters in a meaningful way- he just wanted to see them play out for his own amusement.
So yeah. They didn’t have to add or focus on half of the shit they did to get their point across, but they did it all anyways for no other reason than they could, and couldn’t do better.

After watching this episode I was fully repulsed. Like actually disgusted. Shows sometimes make me sad and angry but it's rare I have any reaction. This was so so bad. The slapping her in the face, the worse than porn acting moans, Abel being a shit actor, beating her with a hairbrush like her mom did.

Like abusive cycles could definitely be explored in art, but this isn't doing it in a complex or even respectful way. It's fucking gross how its sexualised and romanticised when this poor girl is continuing to suffer abuse.

Within her Mother abusing her for work and everything, Tedros has unlocked that trauma and will use it to her as a way to “motivate” her like her mom used to do. I mean tbh this show is very uncomfortable and pretty sick, but I do think they do a good job at showing what the music and entertainment is in real life. The staff, team, marketing, friends, family, and etc. exploitation and the constant attention towards you, whether it’s negative or positive. And the people being/acting really sick and vulgar just like that the guy that commented about Einstein, lots of people like that in the industry. I do think that Sam is weird asf with his obsession over heartbreaking stories, drugs, and sex but I do think the show has sm potential without the nudity.

So let me get this straight, in a single episode there's an Epstein "joke", an exchange of dialogue that's casually homophobic, and The Weekend's character is ableist when he calls someone retarded. Not to mention that the entire series can basically be equated to torture porn and in the pilot episode they said "mental illness is sexy" and Lily-Rose Depp's character said she likes that The Weekend's character has a "kinda rapey" vibe. Why is this show even still airing the rest of the season at this point?! I'm at loss for words. Every episode seems to get more harmful and offensive.

I think if they actually had a better writing team and an actor who could actually pull off what they’re trying to w the weeknd, it would be substantially better. The dialogue is so weak…His acting is quite horrendous. I really wished we could have seen what was originally envisioned. The saving grace of the show is Lily, she’s killing it but what her character is going through is just overboard. @@krishanchoudhuryin general saying someone deserves jail for a joke that was simply in poor taste I would consider dramatic, but the lack of empathy shown makes me fearful for what the personal lives of anyone involved in that line look like. I feel physically ill from the imagery of that line and the horrors it brings to mind. People who have committed acts I consider deserving of the death penalty, the harming of children, specifically sexually, are roaming around unpunished and not only free but rich, influential and connected, and to try to find humor in that is utterly repulsive. If you feel anything other than sickened by it, you can have no conscience. (Not you particularly, I understand you may think jail time is an overreaction and I guess that’s a matter of opinion, but the writer)

In a perfect system though, pedophiles are one hundred percent those who deserve death. Unfortunately many many people in power are part of these rings and involved in human trafficking. The cast was contract locked by HBO before Sam levinson came into the picture so yeah... The cast choose to just be in a bad show and make money rather than be in a million dollar lawsuit with HBO.

The fetishization of trauma makes me sick. There's no amount of "sexy bdsm stuff" where you'd go from telling someone about your child abuse and the SAME DAY they incorporate that element into your sex life without bringing it up at all. That was such an insane escalation. Sure the sex was kinky before but that's just straight up...I absolutely do not believe she wouldn't have been super put off by that and they have absolutely not established Tedros as threatening enough that she wouldn't leave.
This show is so bad, but somehow I still care because it fails in ways I was still not expecting. You'd assume the weekend and sam's vanity project they clearly made as an excuse to film sex scenes would at least get that part to make sense.
