    Mist propagation is awesome... the numbers of plants one can successfully propagate in his/her own backyard is staggering!

    I have too day you guys are the coolest, most down to earth nursery folks I've ever encountered. I work for nursery for about 4 years and I had to beg and cry any little bit of information out of them that I could and I worked for them. And God forbid they caught me telling our customers info on how we grew stuff man they'd be soo mad at me. I absolutely love how you give your knowledge freely, it helped me immensely

    I'd love to see a video of your mist system with parts links, and set up etc. I have one as well but it's completely different than yours. I'm currently using the mist timer II which hooks up to a garden hose but it does not have much functionality with programming.

    I was going through some early videos to find this one and came up with a couple of questions that I hope you will see (since it is an old video). How does natural rainfall affect the cuttings under mist? Can they get oversaturated? Do you cover them when you expect lots of rain?
    A question unrelated to misting: When you started having your driveway sales, did people ever complain about your prices or expect something for nothing because, after all, you just put some cuttings in pots?
    I have enjoyed watching your nursery grow and am happy for your family and y'alls new nursery.

      Excess rain? Never been an issue... that's why it's critical for growing/rooting media to drain very well. I've never covered them before. Prices? Maybe someone complained about something like that a time or two, but so little it was inconsequential. People were virtually always delighted to find our plant sales because we had great plants and they didn;t have to go to the "big guys" to get them. Also, our prices were great - and that didn't hurt. But, serious plant buyers aren't typically bargain hunters. This isn't the yard sale crowd - totally different buyer than that. Thanks!!

    Greetings from the Alabama Gulf Coast!
    Would you mind sharing the model of your mist propagation controller? I'm having a difficult time locating one with features that will water for 6 seconds every 10 minutes, as you are doing. I don't have electricity at my farm yet, so I plan to temporarily use a single valve battery powered model until I can get electricity. The model I've got has a solenoid in the controller. It only has 6 programs so I'm limited to watering 6 times a day, so I plan to try watering for about a minute or so each cycle. I have no idea if this will even work...

    I just purchased and potted up in 4” pots 100 bare root butterfly weed plants. The roots have little hair roots on them and there is no top growth except for tiny sprouts at the tops of some of the roots. The roots look like tiny parsnips (carrot shaped but white). I am wondering if they will do better in my mist house, which I finally now have operating. What do you think?

    I have watched every video in the last few weeks. Great work and I enjoy them! I have the exact spray emitters you have. How do you connect that small hose to your PVC? I thought about just drilling a smaller hole and inserting it, but fear it may just slip out under the water pressure. I can't seem to find anything the would connect a tube that small at the big box stores.

    • @savvydirtfarmer

    Hi! How many hours of direct sun does the shade frame get? Is it out in the sun the whole day?

    • @savvydirtfarmer
      @savvydirtfarmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mist propagation is set up under a shade cloth that probably shades out 80% of the sun. The cuttings will quickly burn otherwise.

    • @loomacy
      @loomacy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@savvydirtfarmer I understand the part about the shade cloth filtering out the sun. My question is about the location of the setup. Is it in a location that gets sun the whole day or does the location get shaded at some part of the day. Maybe I should have said "full sun" instead of "direct sun."

    • @savvydirtfarmer

      Different plants have different shade needs. Generally, some shade from trees are good for your plants though, in the heat of the summer. For my Limelight hydrangeas, I went to Lowes and bought 3 of them off the clearance rack, planted them in my yard, and started taking hundreds of cuttings from them the next season. Misting components? Do some online research. Join greenhouse and/or plant propagation FB groups and find out what people are using. I'm about to have to figure that out myself, as I bought a "misting kit" several years ago with everything included and it won't be long til I'm going to need to look more into specifics. But it's pretty simple - a timer with propagation settings, PVC for your manifold and water supply, and some tubing for your mist heads that will tap into that PVC.

    • @donalddunn2983

      Check out "Calgon Backyard Plant Propagation" TH-cam. What he uses is much cheaper than other timers. I got the Nearpow timer he suggested for $20.00 and built a 2"x6" board box that is 4'x8'. Purchased a sprinkler valve a power adapter some wire all for $70.00 on Amazon. The boards I already had. I set up the timer today and it seems to work perfectly. You can't find another timer for under $200.00 that can turn on for 5 seconds then turn off and wait for 10 minutes and turn on again for 5 seconds. Ig also has to be able to be turned off at night this timer does all that. for $20.00. I ordered the Senninger Upright Misters for $2.00 each. I'm telling you all this because I spent hours and hours searching for an affordable timer and good misting heads. The $70.00 I purchased and 5 misters that cost me $10.00 plus $5.00 shipping. I'm all in for $85.00. Good luck
