Hey there! I'm trying out a new format with this one. Think of it as a jam & education combo. The idea is to share some of the stuff I've learned about the Syntakt so far while still making things manageable for myself. Full video productions like the previous comparison vidoes just take so much time, and this is a lot easier to manage. By the way, this song is a remix of the previous jam I uploaded called Nowadays. This remix literally came to life thanks to one of the best features of Syntakt, tip #3 in this video (Ctrl+All). Link to that jam: th-cam.com/video/S6TX2E471so/w-d-xo.html
Really appreciate you taking the time to write that, thank you! The cool thing is that the Syntakt sort of made it for us. It was a remix of another pattern that came to be from using ctrl+all. The original song is the previously uploaded video. Thanks for listening!
Thank you! Music just seems to flow through this thing. Not to infuse a lot of GAS in you but I have to say that Ctrl+All works particularly well on the Syntakt because of the number of tracks and the way that parameters are so thoughtfully organized across the machines. I don't remember it being this dramatic on the Digitone. This song literally came to be thanks to messing with Ctrl+All on the original patterns from the previous jam. 😊 Thanks for listening!
Nah, thank you for the cool music and highlights on a machine I love. I wish I had more time to really learn it as much as I’d like and make music that sounds as professional. I’ll keep at it for sure though!
@@RobbekenSynthMusic That means a lot and I really appreciate your comment. It really comes down to keeping at it like you say. I listen to some of my mixes from just a year ago and I'm downright embarrassed. 🙈😂 Another thing that really works well for me is to stay focused on just a single piece of gear. I had an episode where I bought a lot of different synths and I just couldn't find the time to make any real music anymore. In 2023, I sold everything but the Syntakt and that was a massive improvement to my productivity. I have almost ten other full songs made on the Syntakt that I'll upload here soon, just need to find the time to do the video production too, which is now the real bottleneck for me because I'm less experienced there. So, perhaps the recipe is to 1) keep at it, and 2) focus on one device at a time? At least it seems to work well for me. 😊 Thanks again!
You mean the pad tones in the background? Yes, those are SY Swarm sounds on track 1 and 2. It's pretty agrressively band pass filtered (filter page 2) to take down the edges and make it sit better in the mix, and tons of reverb is added. A bit later around 1:25 the pattern changes and the detuning/unison effect is reduced and one of the tracks is pitched up an octave, but it's still SY Swarm. It's by far my favorite "machine", even though it makes much of that Syntakt identity sound similar across my jams. Thanks for listening!
Yeah, when the swarm update was released i was hoping it was a chord machine, that would have been nice imo. But since there are enough tracks to make chords it doesnt matter that much. Great music here btw! Im also finding so much joy in the Syntakt, to me its the only elektron device thats been a keeper.
@@motoboy6666 Yeah, the Swarm machine opened up so many new opportunities to me, but I do miss polyphony. It's easy enough to copy sequencer data to a neighbor track and then adjust the notes to program chords. The hard part is if you want to adjust the filter on all 2-3 tracks simultaneously. I've learned to get quick quick at switching tracks but it's not ideal. I also do miss sample playback and the resampling workflow. I'm very intrigued by the Push 3 as a potential groovebox to rule them all, but it's a very different beast and also prohibitively expensive. In the end, I totally agree that the Syntakt is a keeper and is by far the most fun I've had with an Elektron box, or any groovebox for that matter! Thank you for your compliments about the music. I have about 5 other more or less finished tracks in my Syntakt. Just need to find the time to rehearse and record the jams. 😊
Sorry about that! It's func+paste to switch to the pattern you've previously copied to the clipboard, and then func+no to revert back to the original pattern. 😊
Sounds like it's not the synth groovebox for you! I thought it sounded like a Megadrive too originally, but it's really about what sounds you choose to use. Perhaps it's an acquired taste and I'm now subconsciously picking these sounds rather than avoiding them. 😊 Have a listen to my other jams and tell me if they all sound like Megadrive though. 🤞

Excellent....
Really appreciate it! It's a marvelous synth groovebox. 😊
Amazing video, now wanting a “My 5 favorite creative features of the MC-101”.
Good idea Leonard! I'll see if I can make that happen. Thanks for watching.
Love it!
Love you! Happy birthday! 🧡
Great!
Hey, thanks for listening, that means a lot!
Very good song

That func no it’ great
This device does go a bit Synthwave for sure
It can go in so many directions! Very versatile, especially when you start to get into layering sounds.
0:22 are those supersaw chords? Made on several tracks perhaps? Great stuff!

How did you you do the pattern switch? It's a bit too fast in the video...
Sorry about that! It's func+paste to switch to the pattern you've previously copied to the clipboard, and then func+no to revert back to the original pattern. 😊
so still not possible to have chords on a single track? like the most basic sequencer from 1983?
Not on the Syntakt. But the workaround is so fast now that I hardly even think about it.
@@sinewaymusic I might be bit late, but what would be your fast workaround for chords?
@@j.s.8933 Check out my latest video and the chapter about making a song from scratch and you'll see how I do it. 😊
looks like you took the plastic off the display
I did indeed! Watch the jam titled "Fjord" to see it in action. Thanks for listening!
1000$ gear but sounds like 16 bit Sega Mega Drive

That’s part of it’s charm.
Check your ears m8 😅
