This is a great idea to use it as a holder and having the divider to use it during the game :D

Thank you! I can’t wait to do more of these inserts, I’ve got a few more ideas for multifunctional components.

Do you have a link to the most economical foam core sheets to buy that are still good quality? We are hoping to make a bunch of inserts cutting free hand…

I found cathedral brand was consistent quality and laser friendly (not that that bit matters to you!) - cathedralproducts.co.uk/products/fbbka110
      Hope this helps!

    Black masking tape?!
What type of wizardry is this?

    Also, I love that shirt.

I think it’s also called photo Mounting tape and thanks for the shirt comment! It’s very seldom I get a clothes related compliment - I’ll have to show my wife haha

      Hahaa.
The wives are seldom impressed by our choice of wardrobe.

Photo Mounting Tape - I'll have to remember that.
It's certainly better than the normal tan masking tape and a large black marker.
      👍

Ooh love this! Only just picked up TEG a couple of months ago, so this would be perfect!

When I’ve finished the insert, I’ll make another one for you and send it in the post. I must admit your video was my inspiration to get this game out again!

That's a very cool idea. Do you find the edges of the tape sticking (tackiness, not protruding) at all? Meanwhile, this has also given me some inspiration. One of the most frustrating things about foam core projects and containers is the 90 degree corners in the bottom of each container. I've yearned to be able to sweep them out these type of boxes. It always frustrates me that I have to dig to get cubes or coins out. Your tape idea has me thinking; if I put tape on the inside of the box and create a curve, it could resolve those sharp corners in side the box. It just becomes a question of properly supporting the tape around those corners. Thanks!

Read my mind! That’s exactly what I’m going to be doing for the components with the ship tokens!

If you use a stiff paperboard or cardstock you can do this quite easily. Cut a piece that is as wide as the area you want to cover but longer in the direction you want to curve - no more than the 2 times depth of the cavity. Push it down into the cavity without creasing it with the ends flush with the top of the tray and you will have a nice curved surface to pull tokens out of. The shorter the panel the larger the radius.

i was thinking a little double sided tape on the bottom to secure? do you normally glue these in? thanks

    • @Darth_Kael
      @Darth_Kael 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@TabletopUpgrades They do need to be secured to the sides of the tray to hold the tension. Attaching the bottom will help but might make if more difficult to "center" the arc.

Thank you! I was doing a lot of inserts when I first started my business but it requires a lot of board game buying to consider all the expansions etc. I’ve since moved into wargaming and card gaming accessories but glad this video is still useful!

Cool vid! Bit of a random question, but what type of laser cutter would you recommend for home use? I can make the designs fairly quick with my background as a drawing engineer, but i'm struggling to find a decent (and affordable) entry level laser-cutter

Are you in the Uk? If so I have some specific recommendations, if not I have more generic advice that might be helpful 👍

Love the laser cut foamboard, but I can't believe you are taping these things together! Use glue, my man. The adhesive in tape is garbage that breaks down over time, loosens up, contains acid, and in general is complete garbage.

Thanks for the comment! A few people have warned me about the tape being sticky or braking down but 3 years on from my first experiments with this method, there are none of these problems. It is perhaps because I use framer’s tape used by picture framers rather than generic masking tape or the other explanation is that it’s not really a problem. I couldn’t say which.
I’ve seen people using glue and even pinning them together… if it works, it works! I guess everyone has their own preferred methods. Thanks again for watching!
