Not that this contributes anything to what Bruce said about companies noticing that a lot of videos are not brand friendly but when i see an ad that TH-cam has put on a video i don't recognize the ad with the video or it's creator(s). Only when videos have sponsorship deals in them like dude soup do i relate to a companies brand with a video and it's creator(s), very much like dude soup and Blue Apron.
Yeah I agree 100% with this point and it's the first thing that came to my mind. I assume the that vast majority of people understand that advertisers and videos are not really.. Partnered or related in any way, i don't expect funhaus-like content from blue apron or any of their sponsors even.
I get the general idea that advertisers wouldn't want to advertise their content on stupidly controversial content but I honestly don't think it has any effect on viewers when put into practice because we don't relate the two.
That's pretty common, and also why those sorts of ads pay soooo much more. TH-cam advertising is the broadest, lowest-paying form of revenue for a media creator.

I love your guys' insight on Internet + media, because it's not "normal TH-camrs scare me", it's a great mix of objective and subjective opinions and I think your way of discussing stuff is perfect. Also it's interesting how much I'm starting to notice and appreciate Adam as I personally move from the social butterfly of high school to the guy that somehow forgot how to talk to girls at community college. So I'm sure that means something.

So I haven't seen the video yet, and I'm guessing they will be defending youtube til the end and blaming all of the users for not understanding anything about anything.
This is the only problem with funhaus, they are very much youtube apologetic, anything that ever happens is completely justified, and not only that! but youtube is amazing and nearly perfect, but obviously just nearly, let's not be unrealistic here!
But seriously, they think youtube is this amazing thing, while they never understood, that for the rest of the users, the majority, youtube was always a platform where you can express yourself, not a business model. So when we see youtube changing and taking a more strick stance on becoming a full TV like station, we don't like it, cause that wasn't the original point of this site.
Obviously, working for youtube, or making money on something you like to do has been the dream for many youtubers for a while now, but still, it is losing it's freedom.

Do you know what this is? Ever since google bought youtube they have been wanting to make youtube super profitable just like other adsense content are on the web.
Are you telling me that every site that uses adsense is essentially losing its freedom? What freedom exactly? For them not getting to dictate what happens to the system that google created for their own profiteering aims and not for some weird non-profit activities? I mean, for fuck's sake, are you 12?

And a great example of how we are loosing freedom is many channels which deal with "news" or controversial topics like bringing idiotic things to light, for instance third wave feminism, SJW and the crisis that Europe is facing with the immigrants. These are topics that some channels are dealing with in a civil manner but youtubes guidelines, which I know are older but they are cracking down on them, they are either demonetizing them, ( like we already established youtube is a money maker, so it makes the video completely pointless) and even getting rid of, flagging and so on. This is happening, Just cause you don't see it, or funhaus doesn't, it doesn't mean these guidelines don't have flaws. And Yes I know the definition of censorship means government, but can you really say youtube, facebook and google aren't very very important in this day and age? You HAVE to use them, there is no other way if you want to succeed online or use the internet in everyday usage. And when these sites start controlling what you can say, can you really blame people for calling it censorship?

That is really shitty. I mean really shitty.

It sure beats all the garbage on cable networks and as much as this platform is growing and changing it's still a great option for creative content and hopefully will continue to remain that way. Good God I love these kinds of content because as they said they give us insight into the real way things like TH-cam work, its awesome because its a great change from the tidal wave of people hating on the system, when sometimes they don't even fully understand it themselves. This kind of content is so great because they help us to understand it.
Television has evolved a lot since it was created. A lot more stuff can be shown. Like im pretty sure boobs and sex and stuff couldn't be shown but look at whats on tv now. TH-cam is like reverted to how television used to be. Which makes no sense to me. Maybe there should be categories or like some kind of labeling thing so people can post whatever and the viewers will know what they are watching. Kind of like how tv has ratings (rated pg 13, rated R ect.) Because i don't want people to stress about changing just so they can stay viable on youtube, and make money on it.

James talking about over intelligent people trying to talk to the common person is so, so right. I work in the semiconductor industry and our engineers have an extremely difficult time discussing the complexities of the processes in the fab. My company values the least common denominator because of the fact that they can understand this one narrow part of the entire process to explain the basics of something to someone who has no idea.

The only way I can tell which day of the week it is, is by referencing what funhaus video I watched earlier in the day(demo disk = Monday, open haus= Tuesday, etc.) if they switch up their format I'm screwed

I agree with Lawrence, just reign in your expectations for life, tell yourself everyday its meaningless but its the meaning you put into it but be realistic, dont get your hopes up and finally don't try to control the uncontrollable, like no matter how positive you are, that positivity wont get you that job or car, money will. I find it makes me happier to just go "oh well all I can do is try my best"

14:45 That's exactly what I feel is going on by the actions and wording TH-cam uses. Essentially they want to make the TH-cam version "We Happy Few". Block all the scary negative sad stuff that happens in the world and only show happy sugar coated positive (often times fake) videos.

The show on the monitor on 13:23 is called Bulbulay, its a Pakistani comedy show, its really popular here. Its a show about a whacky family and them dealing with day to day things.
for the automation it could be as simple as having a video delay on uploads so that youtube can flag it ahead of it launching and creators can simply ask find out why to A. change the video or B. know ahead of time and get it checked by a human and it could be per video that creators get to ask about so say you have a video you want released let the ai run over it or what ever program then if its flagged get a human to check it (maybe take a week maybe 2-4) then put the video up just a potential idea
If the funhaus crew was a family Lawrence would be the mom, James is the dad, Bruce is the oldest son, Adam is the youngest kid, Matt is the distant cousin, and Elise is the badass aunt

What if they made it so that if you process a video it could use the demonitization algorithm before it was published? That way you can appeal before losing any ad revenue. That may slow the timeline of a video which may hurt it's relevancy in certain circumstances, but I think it would still be a better option than losing ads on all of the initial views.

What do you guys think in terms of a form of TH-cam compensation for videos that have been wrongly de-monetised, especially if it's within the first couple of days of the video going up. In most cases the TH-cam accounts affected are small businesses (or big). In the outside world if you are a barber and someone smashes a water pipe by accident causing your business to LOSE MONEY, then you are owed a form of compensation for the loss of profit. I think TH-cam should work that way in terms of wrongly de-monetised videos.
TH-cam: "Here's a list of stuff you can't do."
Creators: "Yes sir, no problem sir, thank you master, I'll sell more ads sir."
Instead of demonetizing the video entirely could TH-cam put videos flagged as "non-ad friendly" in some sort of video purgatory where the video still runs ads and makes money, but the Creator doesn't receive that money until they make a successful appeal? If the appeal is denied the money could just go back to the advertiser making it risk free for them (from a monetary standpoint) to put ads on any video. I'm sure there are a lot of disadvantages and legal issues that might come along with it but I'm just wondering if this is in the realm of a plausible solution?
some youtubers seek out outside sponsorship like yours for the podcast but for their channel because the company knows what to expect from that channel

Here's what TH-cam should do: they should "separate" more mature content from the less mature content. You'd have to login to go to the darker TH-cam and you'd have to be over 18 depending on the video content. The videos would still make the same amount of money so it's not demonitized, but only people who have 18+ accounts could access this content. In there, you'd find the age gated videos that got reported by the bot or by some guy and you could get out of there with no repercussions (monetary and such).
The dark side to something fuzzy and friendly, like... Disneyland, and thinking about how Snow White probably gets off her shift, goes into te underground tunnels. And gets baked.
Money makes the world go round...and business is good!
