From its inception NLP has recognized that the neural systems we use to explore and create our map of reality are then recruited and repurposed for language so we may share our experiences. The recruitment and repurposing of existing systems into the service of a higher function is standard operating procedure for biological organisms. NLP followed this standard operating procedure by identifying and aggregating the best techniques from existing modeIs(systems) into a metamodel.
