This is great! Graduated in 1986, '87 was my first year in Northern California, I joined North CAs for NE, the game was usually on AM radio out of Sacramento and I'd go out and drive closer to Sacramento to be able to listen to the game. Thank you for posting, this is great!
Thanks @steelbuck! #GBR but damn, the way the ball comes outta Aikman's hands was ridiculous. And that Bruin team was loaded. This NU team jumped to #1 and lost to #2 Oklahoma, 17-7 later this season.
Plus Nebraska became Future Champions as well in in the 90's Winning 3 National Championships. Plus The '95 Nebraska Team is the Greatest Football Team Ever. :)
UCLA had Troy Aikman, Ken Norton, and James Washington who would end up playing together for those 90s Dallas Cowboys teams that won those Super Bowls....also had Carnell Lake who played for Pittsburgh when they met Dallas in Super Bowl 30...Amazing they even lost any games at all
Interesting how you can forget how this played out. I recalled the score and the 5 TD passes for Steve Taylor (my favorite at the time), but I had forgotten the lead was 42-17 at some point. I would like to forget the 1988 return match, especially the 1st quarter.
Shocked watching this how many plays were called with Aikman running out of an option look and taking hits. He got crushed on the Bruins’ first TD. I thought Terry Donahue ran a pro-style offense. I still hate how the Steelers won three of its last four in 1988 to go from 2-10 to 5-11 and fall out of the Aikman sweepstakes.
@@trr3160 The talent in Southern California at that time was amazing. Sadly neither school can compete in today’s world. When Utah and Oregon State can outrecruit you???? That’s pretty bad🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
@@williamjonesiii4670 USC and UCLA both fought like crazy to get the most talented kids in California. Now? Neither school can even recruit California which is a travesty🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿 Everybody is leaving for either Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oregon and the rest of the SEC😮😮😮😮

Nebraska’s offensive line was underrated. They were a very good group.

Troy Aikman Ken Norton James Washington UCLA teammates would become Future Super Bowl champions together with the Dallas Cowboys

Thank you for another classic Husker game upload! Steve Taylor throwing for 5 TDs. Air-Nebraska. Who woulda thunk it?
That had to be a school record. Probably still is
A rare find, a dominant Husker game that I didn’t need a VCR to watch
now this is football, these boys ballin'.........

UCLA had Dudes once upon a time.
Love it
Thx
Great editing
Taylor had very fast reaction time. Extremely impressive.
are you my papa?
Neil Smith
Ken Norton
Troy Aikman
Steve Taylor
The names in this game.
Man, Aikman could sling it. Had decent mobility too but took some heavy shots. Lot of talent on that UCLA team.
...Including OT David Richards, transfer from SMU Death Penalty team & former classmate of mine.
I think Ucla made it to the Aloha Bowl that year

When nebraska actually went for in state kids🏴☠️
As a UCLA fan, I miss the days when these two schools had top-tier programs…
Could just be the UCLA sold out on the run and Nebby had little choice but to throw, but either way, very impressive game by them.

Nebraska backup QB Clete Blakeman, future NFL referee
Thanks
Isn’t this the year ucla made it all the way to the Aloha Bowl
yep vs. florida
Yup, I was there, during my senior year at UCLA
Future Dallas cowboy teammates aikman vs Florida’s emmit smith
Bruins won 20-16, I believe…
Where is the 1988 Nebraska - Arizonia State game? both Ken Clark and Terry Rogers before tearing up his knee ran wild. Can't find this on TH-cam.
The UCLA quarterback here went on to become a pretty good TV analyst.
...and adopted Texan.
lol
I’d say his NFL career trumps that
They need a TD after the bomb to Flipper.... horrible red zone play calling
UCLA had very good teams in the 80s. I believe they blew out the Huskers on Los Angeles, either before or after this year.
Yup, they did, I was a Ucla student at the time and remember reading about them blowing out Nebraska in The Daily Bruin.

Boy Steve Taylor could Chuck it pretty good
lol aikman getting out thrown by steve taylor
With Husker QB greats like Gill, Frazier and Crouch, people forget Steve Taylor was one of the best.
...and current football analyst Charles Arbuckle was a MAN at TE!
Steve had a decent career in the CFL mostly as a backup
Dana Brinson could scoot!
UCLA had a offensive roster full of future NFL players lead by a HOF QB yet they spent most of the 1st half running FB dives SMH
Why are the NU lineman bigger/stronger/faster than Frosts team today???
UCLA weren't much worse down to Down. Far too timid on 4th down though
Drop city…
Too far?
real west coast offense meets wanna be west coast offense. GBR
