i am 17 years old and i still remember playing this game when i was 5 years old. im my opinion, this is a prime example as to why video games where fantastic back in those days. compaired to the games we have now-a-days, this pretty much rocks!
Love the fact that the whole play through is in one video. Beats searching for the individual parts. Thanks for uploading this. What a run through Toxic Tower :o
wow man I still cannot believe what I just watched. Brought back so many memories, I was like 9 or 10 years old when I was addicted to this game back in the 90's.
I've tried to speed through web woods in particular for a while...but after watching how you did it,I can't even imagine coming so close... really great vid
This game was perfect in almost everyway, and it has one of the most VIBRANT SNES soundtracks EVER! My favorites being the Ships Hold, and the lava stages.
Although he is probably an expert player, this was tool assisted, meaning he can save and load anywhere in the game. This means that this probably took him longer than an hour and a half, due to retakes. It's great that he took the 5 hours (probably) to do this, though. Great job!
DK2 was totally ahead of its time. I can only image the pride Rare had at making this, Goldeneye, Banjo and Perfect Dark. Hard to compete when Microsoft is offering the money, but god knows whatever Nintendo would have paid to keep Rare working on Nintendo titles would have been completely worth it.
That was amazing work as a whole, though. I know TASing isn't meant to show off skill but that was pretty good. One question though, how did you do what you did at Jungle Jinx? The screen pushed Dixie forward.
@EagerSleeper They didn't restart the whole run that many times. It's the time they loaded one of their save states while recording the TAS. And those saves can be done anywhere they want to.
This is so beautiful I could cry. My childhood game ran though in just 1 hour and even finished ome stages we nerer could reach. Masterpeice! The ending is also very, VERY beauitful.
@NarfIarg Either Dixie always happened to be the active character when he needed to actually beat the level (for a DK coin for example) or her guitar solo is slightly shorter than Diddy's beatbox dance so he made sure he was dixie when he needed to beat the level.
Rare said this : 'our' DK is the son of Cranky, which does indeed make him the original DK Jr. all grown up: so if you see Cranky referred to as DK's granddad anywhere, just cover your eyes and hum loudly until it goes away.
why visiting the school, museum and funky kong ? doesn't that add time ? "100%" or "102%" is missing in the title and how did they know where the token is in the luck games with the chests ?
Depending on the nature of the TAS, it can sometimes be boring and sometimes be incredibly fun to watch. It depends on the possibilities to entertain the viewers and how the TAS-maker exploits those.
This might be a stupid question, but how do you switch between characters? I lost the instruction manual for the game, and I can't figure out how to switch between Diddy and Dixie other than getting hit by an enemy.
240p, we meet again. God the memories of this game. My SNES glitches totally when I start up this game now =( Only game that doesn't work after, what, 18 years in the basement? Hmm
@kazzio00 What's you're point? It says very clearly in the title and description that this is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun(TAS). Savestates and slowdown are tools.
If the only deal with a speedrun is being TAS'd, it therefore in fact becomes possible to do so by hand. Tool Assisted usually just means using the video tool inside the emulator and save/load stating until they get whatever they're trying to do perfectly. Other than that the game itself isn't altered or hacked in any way.
Mesquissto, NxCy really is as skilled as he appears in the movie. Just check out his speedruns at his youtube page. Baron: not sure if Arne is going to be able to work on it, but we do have plans to do the Any%.
@200possum read this : Note: this movie was recorded with a slightly modified snes9x. A soft reset feature was added to the movie file. A copy of this snes9x can be found in the authors' submission." This tool-assisted speedrun, played by NxCy and Comicalflop, aims to obtain 102% completion in Donkey Kong Country 2 - Diddy's Kong Quest as quickly as possible. It uses a number of tricks and glitches to achieve this.
@xRocketzFighterx Yeah, making an optimised TAS with this length takes a very long time. There have been runs (My recently made The Minish Cap TAS for example) that was in the works for about a year.
i know what a tas is...i'm just saying, even if he played it frame by frame, he's still really good for even taking on the endeavor of doing it really well and making it fun to watch at the same time.
You should know that this is a Tool Assisted Speedrun. If you follow the second link in the description you can find information on how the run was made and how the glitches and such were done.
OMG Spectacular Speedrun... even when you know that its TAS (some people think that its really easy make a TAS)... DKC2 Its the best of the Trilogy... (Also love DKC n.n) Congrats... Epic Game... Epic Video
no, tas= tool assisted speedrun, se usa el truco de guardar y cargar para corregir errores y se relentiza el juego cuadro por cuadro para que el juego paresca perfecto, los TAS no se tratan de demostrar habilidad son solo por entretenimiento.
I'm buying this on ebay to add to my collection. I don't want to track down all 3, and this is the best one at least from what I can remember. Love Diddy.
A TAS is made with an emulator. Where you play the game frame by frame (60 frames/second in the case of this game) and use Save States. The idea of a TAS is to find out how fast you can beat a game in theory when everything is optimal. If the same input would be used on console, the same result is achieved. You can find additional information on the website TASvideos, or just ask and I'll gladly answer.
I still remember trying to wake up 6:30 in the morning as my dad will allow me to play snes from 7 to 12 every sat and sun. Along with street fighter 2 with my bro!
I know (some of you who see my channel) I usually reguard metroid prime as the best game ever.....well, when I play it, it doesnt capture the magic that this game does for me, this IS everything that I want in a video game, its fast paced, its epic, its atmospheric, its challenging, there is a lot of collectibles and its even somewhat DARK, at least compared to the other dkc games. This game is a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
Holy shit, after watching this, my mind is gone into speed run mode. I nearly burst a blood vessel when I went to take a dump just now. Kudos to the guys who made this. I used to watch this guy in the games arcade when I was 9 or 10 and he was a fucking junky or something, but he was a master of mortal kombat 2. I was mesmerized watching him. I got that same feeling watching this, after all them years. Weird.
Best speed-run imo, he does the levels legitimately and even does the bonus levels. Well done, Sr. Unarmed Link.
i am 17 years old and i still remember playing this game when i was 5 years old. im my opinion, this is a prime example as to why video games where fantastic back in those days. compaired to the games we have now-a-days, this pretty much rocks!
I have seen this around the time it first got completed. It blew me away.
Seriously this is beyond entertaining.
Love the fact that the whole play through is in one video. Beats searching for the individual parts. Thanks for uploading this.
What a run through Toxic Tower :o
the link to the tasvideos page is broken, just remove the bracket at the end of the link for it to work.
You sir, are a beast. Just to have the presence of mind to string together what you do is incredibly impressive.
wow man I still cannot believe what I just watched. Brought back so many memories, I was like 9 or 10 years old when I was addicted to this game back in the 90's.
Question why not use the stage shortcuts to warp straight to the end instead of nabbing bonus coins and DK coins. Or is this going for 100%?
I've tried to speed through web woods in particular for a while...but after watching how you did it,I can't even imagine coming so close...
really great vid
This game was perfect in almost everyway, and it has one of the most VIBRANT SNES soundtracks EVER!
My favorites being the Ships Hold, and the lava stages.
WHOH! INCREDIBLE! It's like your not even human you go lightning quick!
This guy is one with this game. He knows the rhythm like it were his own.
The graphics and the music on the DK Country games still impress me to this day. Wish I still had a SNES.
I love how in DKC2 there are exactly 3 levels of each archetype.
Instant fav because i'm currently unable to watch the whole thing!
These were the times where 2D JumpNRuns were still hard and frustrating at times!
Although he is probably an expert player, this was tool assisted, meaning he can save and load anywhere in the game. This means that this probably took him longer than an hour and a half, due to retakes. It's great that he took the 5 hours (probably) to do this, though. Great job!
out of this whole speed run you mostly impressed me in ghostly grove for some reason.
DKC 2 ... I lost my cartridge back in the past, lord does this bring back memories ... Thx for uploading Swordless. :-)
Great run and without question one of the best games ever made, had the big box version of this, sold it when i was young, boy do i regret it now
Incredible, awesome, outstanding.
My eyes saw but i can't believe. I lost many hours to finish this game when I was a kid. Great! Simply great.
Top ten games ever made for gameplay, easy. This game and its music are pure magic.
This is by far the best franchise in the SNES and perhaps all of Nintendo.
I remember how awesome it was to fly through these levels.
I'm glad most of my childhood can be made into a 1hr 30min video
what the fucking hell?
I just had a nostalgi trip, loved this game when i was a kid it was like around 10-13 years since i played this :)
K. Rool: Oh, no. They are TASing... xD
Seriously, this was one hell of a run for one of the best games of all times. Thank you very much for this!
I haven't even seen the video, but I'm already BLOWN AWAAAAYYYYYY
I like it how people are amazed over how skillfull this player would-be :P
Still one of the best TASes out there ^^
That was amazing work as a whole, though.
And those saves can be done anywhere they want to.

wow, this tas brought back so many memories, especially the lava world.
The falling levels are magnificent.
25:50 Black Ice Battle
52:56 Parrot Chute Panic
You're incredible! I never knew about the hidden Bonus Stage in "Lockjaw's Locker".
@NarfIarg Either Dixie always happened to be the active character when he needed to actually beat the level (for a DK coin for example) or her guitar solo is slightly shorter than Diddy's beatbox dance so he made sure he was dixie when he needed to beat the level.
I love TAS. Thanks for all these uploads. Saves me from downloading them myself! Although I have quite the TAS archive :P
thank you very much for posting this video! i was used to play this game with my friends when i was young, GOOD OLD MEMORIES
Only 102% Awesome
NxCy is the greatest SNES kong player of all time! it's ridiculous really
"100%" or "102%" is missing in the title
and how did they know where the token is in the luck games with the chests ?
This is my childhood, right here.
That was freaking amazing, great job. Btw lol at how the player mimicked King Zing dying.
Depending on the nature of the TAS, it can sometimes be boring and sometimes be incredibly fun to watch. It depends on the possibilities to entertain the viewers and how the TAS-maker exploits those.
the point is to see how fast you can beat the game while simultaneously pushing the game to its limits
years of memories rushing back
The SNES Donkey Kong series have definitely, the best sound effects and BGM's for that generation, in my opinion. :)
seeing this again In now making me miss this old classic game, The classic games from SNES and Nintendo 64 are my main favourites
This might be a stupid question, but how do you switch between characters? I lost the instruction manual for the game, and I can't figure out how to switch between Diddy and Dixie other than getting hit by an enemy.
you owned both of the k.rools badass style
owning him and mocking him at once.
240p, we meet again.
God the memories of this game. My SNES glitches totally when I start up this game now =( Only game that doesn't work after, what, 18 years in the basement? Hmm
i miss the good ol' days! i remember playing this as a child :)
I did not know anything about those shortcut-barrels :O
I love TAS, they make this game look so easy when in fact it is definately not...
@kazzio00 What's you're point? It says very clearly in the title and description that this is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun(TAS). Savestates and slowdown are tools.
does every level have a hidden barrel that warps you to the end of the stage (i realize not all were used probably in the vid but im just curious?)
At the start it says "record count" does it show how many times you recorded the gameplay like retries? or is it the memory of the recorded file.
If the only deal with a speedrun is being TAS'd, it therefore in fact becomes possible to do so by hand. Tool Assisted usually just means using the video tool inside the emulator and save/load stating until they get whatever they're trying to do perfectly. The last several levels get really impressive.
Also, DK totally uppercutted K-Rool, Street Fighter-style! SHORYUKEN!
@xRocketzFighterx Yeah, making an optimised TAS with this length takes a very long time. There have been runs (My recently made The Minish Cap TAS for example) that was in the works for about a year.
this is really good, but what did you use? A controller or keyboard?
i know what a tas is...i'm just saying, even if he played it frame by frame, he's still really good for even taking on the endeavor of doing it really well and making it fun to watch at the same time.
I just can't fucking express how much epicness is expressed by that kind of art
this game never gets boring
Please explain how you are able to land in the lava, off the world, and in the swamp and then magically jump again.
wow your a pro at games you can beat a level in like seconds proud of you dude
This is cold. never knew you beat DKC2 that fast
You've done in an hour, something that took me 2 years.
You should know that this is a Tool Assisted Speedrun. If you follow the second link in the description you can find information on how the run was made and how the glitches and such were done.
@MrClogsAndHat If your referring to the super fast camera scrolling - It's a glitch. if you shoot out of the barrel onto a tire, it goes super fast.
awesome run, glad you were able to use the camera scroll I found in Jungle Jinx :D
i think the ending is the prettiest scene (purely graphically speaking) of any snes game
I love how Dixie and Diddy taunt K. Rool in the last fight aganist him in the Lost worlds. K.rool's like "DAMMITT HOLD STILL!!!!
plz tell me where exactly is the bonus at 1:09:50..you doing something weird so i don't know where it is..
@xRocketzFighterx It's rerecord count. It means he loaded a save state 148105 times while making the run.
OMG Spectacular Speedrun... even when you know that its TAS (some people think that its really easy make a TAS)...
DKC2 Its the best of the Trilogy... (Also love DKC n.n) Congrats... Epic Game... Epic Video

i got One Question.
Do you play with a Controler/Joystick or with Keyboard?:D
I still remember trying to wake up 6:30 in the morning as my dad will allow me to play snes from 7 to 12 every sat and sun. Along with street fighter 2 with my bro!

This game had some of the best music one of my fav game soundtracks
Holy shit, the longest video on youtube xD
I always liked it when you had sound on your videos :(
0:46:21 I love how you do the exact same animation as King Zing Sting dying hahaha made me laugh.
how did u get over 1hr video WOW longest iv seen bro pelase tell me how u did it?
This is just amazing!
A very big respect from gemany!
Why do you go to places like swankys, funkys and the museum?
what exactly is meant by tool assisted? is a person playing at all or is it just an AI? or some combination?
Are those Sonic's shoes next to the No Hopers?
whats with the yellow line on the load bar for the vid?
how do you move that fast when you are climbing on the ropes??
So if Donkey Kong is the granson of Cranky Kong who is Donkey Kong's father?
this is amazing the momentum u keep doing is fabulous gr8 job dude
That's why i love Tas video, i'm playing this game now and can 't believe how many things i've gone past! I still don't get what the kiosk is for....
i loved how u were toying with kruel
very impressive run :)
this man is the son of SNES
Holy shit, after watching this, my mind is gone into speed run mode.

Weird.
