You put $2500 in the machine, you were up about $600 when you were half way through this play. So you had to pay taxes on your $2500, and still ended up with $600 in the machine. You were better off keeping that $1000 ticket and cashing out when you had about $600 in the machine. That way, you wouldn't have to pay taxes on your own money.
