I love this. One of our successful touch points was “I’m heating up water for tea, would you like a cup?” I never realized the need to continuously remind them that we were still fully committed to them. Looking back now, that makes total sense. Also, in our experience it was almost 6 months before our teen would voluntarily come out of her room and join us for a family activity without an invitation. That was also around the time that she had been in our home longer than any other prior placement, and I think that is likely not a coincidence.
I love it. Give time and space for them to have havens. Have daily, consistent touch points. Communicate "I'm good. You're good. We're good." especially after conflict.
Listening to this sitting at my kitchen table in Russia and even though the system is different the thing about parenting are so universal! It's great!
@@afosteredlife I still think about foster care often and hope it’s in God’s plan for us someday, I guess I’m still just in the season of encouraging foster parents! 😆
I love your content. Fostering is something I never thought of but was kinda thrown in front of me and thinking about taking on this journey. Your full of wealth of knowledge

Tea! Brilliant! And yes, that moment of being someone’s longest placement is *huge*. Thanks for sharing!

You should probably turn the phone off when filming, it’s distracting
