    This makes too much sense, so I just use the 'oh, crap' method. Basically, I stand in the direct sun and open the back, see loaded film, scream "oh crap" then slam the back shut. Works like a charm 😂

      So true and this slight hope not every shot is gone. I guess it's something every film shooter has to go through 😂.

    Omg why nobody is talking about this trick?!?!?!
    My camera counter basically stopped working a long ago and that thing that wind the film didn’t really roll
    I thought i must have broken the camera and I thought the film is probably ruined by now..
    This trick worked and the winding this is now rolling as usual so i guess the camera is working lol
    I did opened the back once but since then i wasn’t really sure that the film is really rolling
    Thank you sm you just saved me time so I don’t need to go to the film store!
    I watched over 10 videos and nobody mentioned this in any of them
    I couldn’t find a way to check it out without opening the back all over the internet
    Thank you so much!!!!!!❤❤❤

    Hasham! Quick question. How do you dispose of your C41 chems?

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! There are regular "detox your home" events in various places throughout Melbourne, you can find a list of them on the Sustainability Victoria site. Makes it easy to keep aside film chems and other stuff like motor oil etc, then dispose of it for free when the next one comes up.

    What if I was dumb and already pressed the button on the bottom?? There’s no tension when I turn the rewind spool, but I was so sure that there is film in there because I’ve been taking pictures and every time I am loading my film and then the camera shutter goes.

  • @Twinti213
    @Twinti213 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is there a way to tell if a film is loaded on a camera like Canon EOS 630? The film rewinder is fully automatic.
    I just started doing film photography and my second film roll got back blank. I suspect that the film was loaded incorrectly. So, I'm trying to find a way to avoid this issue in the future 😅

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, usually these automatic cameras only shoot (and increase the frame counter) if the film is loaded. If you had a black roll, it could be worth checking the shutter and all mechanisms while the camera is empty.

    Hey I recently started shooting film and I hope you can help me. I have a 24 exp. film but my camera keeps shooting and I think I now shot more than 34? The rewind knob keeps turning when I advance and has tension when I try to turn it so I guess the film is loaded correctly? I just don’t understand why I can keep on shooting. Should I keep on shooting until the camera lets me or should I rewind the film? I’d appreciate if anyone could help me.

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, i can't be sure, but the simplest answer would be that it's actually a 36 shot roll. Best to see what happens at around 38

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, the only way to know for sure is to develop the film!

  • @riplavabit
    @riplavabit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    And if the film didn’t load properly what then? Say you follow the advice, the rewind button hasn’t been pressed but if there’s only a couple of inches of film pulled across the shutter curtain and you rewind it could end up vanishing into the film canister.

    • @marcellkovacs5452
      @marcellkovacs5452 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can pull the film back out, just search it and you’ll find the instructions

    • @riplavabit
      @riplavabit 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marcellkovacs5452 I’d rather avoid having to pull it back out, looks tricky. I think if the shutter is cranked but the rewind doesn’t move it’s safe to say the film is still in the initial position and needs hooking up with the forward winding teeth on right.

  • @fastrockstar1705
    @fastrockstar1705 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Before twiddling the rewind handle. A quick glance at the frame counter could also be a good first indicator. If the number shows something like >10 chances are you might have some film inside.

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The counter in most manual cameras still ticks up if the camera is empty, or not loaded correctly, so that would not be a good indication

    • @fastrockstar1705
      @fastrockstar1705 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pushingfilm Yes, that's true. I was just referring to myself. I just know that I very rarely do like 17 or 23 "blank" shots. So I know I probably got film inside and I'm good to go.
      But your approach is definitely fail proof. I didn't want to criticise in any way.

    • @marcellkovacs5452
      @marcellkovacs5452 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fastrockstar1705 If you load the film incorrectly without realizing it, you might take 17 blank frames. Later, when you check the counter and see it’s at 17 frames, you assume the film is loaded correctly. This approach isn’t very reliable because it depends on the film being loaded correctly from the start. However, if you verify the film is loaded properly at the beginning using the method in the video, then relying on the counter afterwards should work well.
