  • It’s been a week of Chateau retreat recovery and Bruce got underway with my bathroom renovation! But a few wrenches have been thrown into the planning phase. Living in France can be tricky to navigate sometimes. But lots of good brocante footage for you needing a brocante infusion! And this time I actually bought a few things!

I vote for the removal of all the existing tile and start over with the half wall tiled and bull nose cap. It will suit the style of the Chateau.

Happy Mother’s Day Abby🌺 As for the bathroom, I would skip the blue border, it feels dated to me the way wallpaper borders do. Going more classic with the tile gives you the opportunity to modernize and update with the less expensive details like paint, fixtures, mirror, etc…

I would definitely raise the floor. I CAN'T imagine being asleep and walking to that room to tinkle. I would lose the teal and do the wet room chair level with the bull nose. I would use the floor tile up the Wall and not introduce another texture. Think "chateau" not modern

For your bathroom, I would remove the old tiles and use the cream/off white tile with the molding as you described. Since the bathroom only communicates to your bedroom, keep its floor level the same as your bedroom's floor height. The ceilings are tall enough in the bathroom to handle it and it is much safer to have the floors on the same level. As to the water stains on the armoire, try rubbing it with the meat of a walnut.

I vote for half wall tile with a nice bullnose chair rail and remove the existing tile. I’ve been to many very high end bathrooms in the states where a wall is tiled but the char rail is not a tile bullnose but a very nice wood chair rail molding that is painted and a wood skirting board. I don’t know if you like that but maybe it’s a solution for now and can be changed to a tile bullnose in the future. I’m glad you decided to start your gardens from scratch. I think you can have designed a low maintenance pretty garden, terrace, lawn. Love your lions!! Bruce is a very kind , reassuring man. He is definitely an expert at what he does. You are very lucky to have him. ❤

Bless your heart if that is the bathroom you've used all this time. It truly wins the prize for the ugliest bathroom ever!😂 Some maidenhair ferns and split leaf pholodendrons would.look great around your 2 pools if they're shady. If you watch the guys at Chateau de LaLacelle, they use Gilboys products to restore and polish wood. You can get a buffing brush attachment for a drill to get into filigree areas and give a final.shine.

Bonjour Abby! Your new-to-you armoire is a great size. It rather looks as though it has survived- barely - a flood. As you oil it, you might want to try the same treatment in a short time; from here, the wood looks quite dry, so the oil will be absorbed quickly. I’m loving the plans for your ensuite, and am sending good vibes that your orders are received quickly. I personally LOVE touring all the various brocantes! The tile choice that you're calling creamier than white looks like what I have, and I think it was called almond. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with white instead, because that almond gets a bit darker with age and I'm not as fond of it now. Yes, the chair level height for tile is far more attractive.

In Sweden, we drink a lot of elderflower lemonade and most families make their own since it grows everywhere. It's very refreshing and you can also mix it with whipped egg whites and freeze it to make a nice sorbet.
For 2,5 litres of concentrate, you put 35-40 rinsed elderflower clusters together with 2-3 sliced organic lemons in a bowl. Boil 1,5 litres of water, 1,5 litres of sugar and 50 g of citric acid until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the boiling water over the elderflowers and lemons. Let it sit in the fridge for 2-3 days and then strain it. It's quite a strong concentrate so you mix it with cold water, or sparkling water before you drink it. It's also perfect to make drinks or mix with sparkling wine. You can store it in the freezer and drink it all year round. Hope you give it a go!
    Greetings from Sweden! 🥰

You can make tempura of the elderberry blossoms now, or you can make sambuca (sp?) of the berries. It's a folk medicine that's an incredibly effective help to your respiratory system. That's a beautiful armoire, blemishes and all. (If you can't get rid of them consider using batik fabrics in the room and just make it a theme.) Whatever substance you use on the veneer, I think you want to apply and rub with the grain so that the softening stain will migrate a bit better. I'd be willing to bet Gilboy's wood products and a buffing brush on a drill would make that veneer design look fantastic.

I would remove the old tile, and do the half wall tiled with the decorative capping. Simple but still elegant.

Restor-A-finish will remove all water stains. It’s what in used by antique dealers in Canada and the US.
Buy it for the wood you’re using eg oak, maple etc. apply with steel wool in the direction of the grain. Then use feed and wax. It will also disguise marks and dings

It hides it for a while but only makes things worse.
That’s why they use it looks great and then you get it home.

Abbey, you might try Bri wax in dark brown for your last coat on the armoire. You can get in the UK so should be able to get it locally. Turned out great. So pretty

Have you factored in the added weight of the tile, 4-6” base, 6’ tub, water, and new marble counter? Quite a lot of load on the ceiling below for an old chateau!
