  • A glacier flood flushed a part of the bridge foundation away in 2015 so we nearly lost it completely, but it had to be closed permanently and deemed as unfit for repair. The incident that has to do with a glacial flood from Vatnajökull glacier but they occur every 2 years or so from 2 ice cauldrons called Skaftárkatlar (Skaftá River Cauldrons) In 2015 we got the rare scenario that both those cauldrons flooded simultaneously and it turned out to be more than the bridge could handle. I is therefore a bit surprising to find it's still there, but it's of course closed and serves only as a fun video subject.
