I think the reason I love America’s vlogs so much is because she is so down to earth. She isn’t faking her attitude and she isn’t always smiling....what I mean by that is that she discusses her good times AND the bad ones... If I’m being completely honest, I think America is one of the most down to earth people. I think she should have so much more attention than all the people out there who are faking their attitudes each and every day

Honestly, I was pretty similar! Before my sophomore year in college I was more anxious than most but nothing crazy, but then sophomore year Idk I was full force anxiety, I never left my room, shut everyone out, it was terrible.
One thing that really helped me was just really talking to myself like "ok what is actually freaking me out, and is it realllly that big of a deal or is it just in my head" and reallllllyyy try your hardest not to care what others think, even if you do care, fake it till you make it!
And of course if things ever get too intense or unhealthy a professional is always there for you, but if you just want a friend, I think you can message over youtube, if not my IG is elijahz1 .. going through anxiety was rough, going through it alone can sometimes feel unbearable. 😊

Hi America. I'm a medical student as well, and listening to what you mentioned about depression I couldn't help but comment (which I never do). I could relate sooo much about how you get used to the feeling of being not well that you don't realize you are going downhill until it is too late... I was in a really bad state by the time I opened up with my mom about it and it turned out that I was seriously close to putting myself in serious harm. So just wanted to say that it was really nice to see you open up about how you're feeling since I love all the energy that you have and would be really terrible to see it be eaten away.
Anyways, LOVE your videos and hope we can continue seeing your positive vibe always!!!

I work in a hospital and really appreciate you being so candid about the importance of mental health. You're not alone in that I, too, am very sensitive and have to constantly be aware of where my state of mind is so that I don't go into a downward spiral. I hope you continue to make videos they're so useful and needed.

Totally resonating with your feelings as a third year.... and I'm feeling just as sensitive as you! Everyday I get influenced by what happens during the work day, what people say to me, what I did/didn't do well, etc. It can be so hard at the end of a long day. It's good to know a lot of us are dealing with this, so thank you for being open about it. I wish I had a solution, but all we can do right now is keep learning and not be too hard on ourselves! Give yourself some leeway and know that a lot of us are going through the same :)

You are actually the best. As strange as it sounds, I think we really all appreciate your vulnerability and seeing your not so good days, as much as we love seeing your great days... It's nice to see someone who has it all together (perhaps more than you even realize!) break down and have a bad day. I'm frequently that person who everyone thinks is *always* happy or *always* having a good day, and I'm sure people assume the same about you. Ironically, I was just talking to a friend of mine who is similarly "always" happy or has a "perfect life" about this just yesterday, and I mentioned your vlogs because even though she isn't Pre-Med, I felt like she could relate to seeing someone like you have a garbage day every now and again. I certainly don't wish bad days upon anyone, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has doubts or shitty days or cry fests or takes things too personally or (yada yada yada)... Thank you again for being so candid in this journey and for sharing such a personal part of your life with us! Again, it is SO refreshing to see a medical student who posts not just the good, but the bad and the ugly as well, and it's so important for us all to see how someone like you deals with it. If you can do it, we can do it.

Thank you so much for sharing your honest emotions on a public platform, it takes a lot of courage. And I'm sure, it will help A LOT OF STUDENTS watching you and going through the same thing. I've just finished my residency not long ago. I totally get how you are feeling. all I can say is that IT PASS. We are in a roller coster and yeah we might have a lot more "lows" than other, Trust me when I say that *the highs are worth it* :) !!

I love your vlogs because you totally are human. Other doctors who vlog show all of their studying, running around and doing these super cool doctor things. But you include your own thoughts and doubts, which is so reassuring to me honestly. I totally think other people feel the same way as you, and I might feel that way as well when I’m in a similar position later in life. I think the important thing is to realize that everyone feels that way at some point, so just take one thing at a time and feel the love from your support system :)

America, the moment that we accept these "dark" or "unexpected" parts of us, we will find much more light inside them. Love ya!

Thank you for being so real with us. A lot of med school vloggers I watch seem like they have such an easy time going through med school, but in reality they probably struggle sometimes too, they just don’t show it. Which makes me feel a bit discouraged at times because I don’t feel smart enough to be like them. I really wish everyone kept it 💯, so thank you for being so honest, and making me feel not so bad about having my struggles in school sometimes too... and I’m not even a med student, but trying to become one hopefully.

Babygirl you have come this far... Do not let anyone make you feel bad. I'm a sensitive person too and being in this "evaluation" phase kind of makes it impossible to NOT feel like ur in a fish bowl with all eyes on you. You have to remember how far you've come like I said, and realize how close u r to a achieving your goal and you just cannot let anything discourage or stop you no matter what! Keep going.. I am headed fr PA school and am still taking pre-reqs and it's difficult but I try to stay focused on the goal -no matter what. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for sharing your insight on mental health and what you're going through, America.
You are always so bubbly and funny on your vlogs, and people tend to forget there are other sides to a person. I'm glad you showed us this vulnerable side and it allows us to get to know you slightly better. I am also going through something similar, and its especially triggering as I am on my psychiatry rotation. At least we are all somehow going through stuff together. So please know that you are not alone! I hope you are feeling better these days :) xx

Your amazing, thank u for being so relatable. Cause I feel like that so often. I come from a family of depression and substance abuse. I try so hard to be fun, corky, bubbly etc which I am normally but I when I have a very hard week, feeling so low, I just hide it from ppl. Next thing I know I'm helping other ppl with their tears and pain, while hiding my own and not addressing my own issues. Its hard when u are a private person emotionally even tho i am very talkative in general.

completely relate with your feelings of being mediocre, in my second year of nursing school and feel like a fail every time i come back from clinical placement lol. I think its normal because your learning so much new information at once and have so many expectations thrown at you. I think its important to remember that it takes a lot of trail and error and I''m 100% sure most med students must feel that way at some point. but looking at the big picture your third year med student your far from medicore and will always be

you always make me reflect ( in a positive way) on why I came into medical school, and how the path can be bumpy yet rewarding every time.

This sounds strange, but I usually only subscribe/ hit the bell icon to people I feel a strong connection with. Your deep rant immediately won my subscription. I'm so relieved to hear that I am not alone. I have depression and I feel mediocre at all times. You have all rights to rant and worry about just yourself, but you mentioned not being able to imagine how others without supportive peers could feel. I think that's amazing. It's not easy to still be considerate while going through these rough times where your mind is just beating you up and making you feel less than you are.

thanks for your little depression talk. I like how you described everything you said in that segment. as someone who suffers from depression, everything you said was exactly what I do and have experienced. It's a good reminder to take care of ourselves! Thanks for another inspirational and genuine vlog! Keep up the fabulous work, you rock!

Same with your mental health talk. Just same. Self awareness and self talk are so important. I'm in a master's program and I have to keep myself in check whenever I feel overwhelmed/not good enough/grades aren't up to par despite hours of studying. My friend support system is great. I do if you're still keeping up with working out but that's my lifesaver, especially on test days. If I don't, I routinely have emotional breakdowns before tests and sabatoge myself. Take little breaks for yourself when you need it and get sleep where you can. You'll get through it. We'll get through it.

This video is so inspiring! As an art major I understand what it's like to be inspected. Art can be very vulnerable, and when people make negative comments relative to a piece it can be really trying. I hope you know how far reaching you are. I really hope the best for you and your career!

Last week was my hardest in med school America. It was my first time having a bad feeling during school. I uploaded a quick venting video and I get why you do it! It has really helped me cope! I know how you feel when you just don't feel like you are "enough" ever. Keep pushing forward and keep making videos America. I like to share my feelings to show premeds the amount of work and pressure med students face everyday! You are awesome!
