Thank you for the review! I'm still at the beginning going on intermediate level of my skating journey, so I recently upgraded from Edea Overture with Rotation blades to Edea Chorus with JW Coronation Ace, I'm very happy with it. I've always wanted to end up with Convertors once I moved to a higher level, for some reason Ice Fly has not really been my thing. I'm glad you were able to make this video! :)

Thank you that was super helpful. I have some Edea Chorus that are broken down - and too big - and I was looking for an upgrade. Was looking at the Concerto or the Ice Fly. They didn’t have any Concerto to try unfortunately and I really needed new skates - when Edeas are broken you need to move fast. So I went for the Ice Fly that they had in stock in my size, will pick them up on Sunday.

I have the Edea Chorus and I was in love with them from the first session. I had to get used to a shorter blade and weight placement as I came from Risport RF4 which is now no longer on the market. Have had them since 2019, thankfully they're still going strong but I guess I can thank corona lockdowns for that.
Edea takes a little getting used to but once you get used to it, you don't want anything else!

I’m currently in ice flys and thinking of switching to piano. Do you notice and size differences between the two? For instance do you find one roomier or tighter than the other? Specifically in the toe area. I have short toes so I’ve been struggling with such a narrow toe box. If I stay in ice fly I definitely want to go up a half size but not sure if I should do the same switching to piano. My local skate shops don’t keep pianos in stock so I have to choose a size before ordering.
Edea boots are intended to be custom-shaped. So, if you feel that the toe box is too restrictive, your Edea-authorized tech will be able to shape it accordingly. It's also possible that you could use a wider width and then have the ankle area shaped accordingly. I found the Edea Piano to feel much stiffer than the Ice Fly and Concerto, which can make the Piano feel tighter. I know that the difference between Ice Fly at 90 in Support and Piano at 95 does not seem like a lot, but for me, it was a huge difference in feel. I highly recommend that you go to an Edea-authorized retailer, try them on, and get properly fitted. I suggest trying on the Concerto, too, as the leather tongue and collar add a more supportive feel that the Ice Fly is lacking.

Thank you so much for this! My coach told me to go with Concerto's instead of Ice Fly and I was like..."awww why!?" lol! DO you know if Concerto's will be good for Double jumps? I haven't learned double jumps yet but I know I'll be learning them in the concerto's one day. And I assume the concerto's will feel less stiff than the Ice Fly's? I'm needing to replace my Reidelle Stride skates ( I've had them since Early 2017).
Concertos are rated up to TRIPLE and QUAD jumps! And many elite pairs skaters wear them! I've found Concertos to be more comfortable than Ice Flys - they're only slightly less stiff but have different foam padding and the rolled cuff. Your coach knows you and your skating best, so listen to them. When you get fitted you can try them both on and ask the tech what they think too!
Thanks for this. I’m waiting to try on Concertos (backordered) but got to try on the ice fly yesterday that came in. I took 20(!) years off from skating but have strong singles again and might attempt doubles again if I can get over my fear of injury now that I’m in my mid-30s. Aiming for comfort and control, whatever the price has to be. Currently using a vintage boot that I found new, a soft Risport Cristallo that has broken down in the ankle from one year of open skates. Now back into the FSC and so afraid I’ll hate how loose Edeas have to be. Also have trouble with heel slippage. Fingers crossed. 128# 5’6” with powerful skating style.
You should not get any heel slippage if the Edea boot is properly fitted, custom shaped, and tied correctly the Edea way. The looseness is meant to be at the top for better ankle bend. If your tying them as directed, you may need a narrow width or some shaping to pinch in the heel. From my experience most issues are solved with simply tying the correctly. @ Thanks! I had the pro guy lace them for me “the Edea way” and I still had a small sensation of heel lifting up, but if they pinch the heel that’ll probably help. Haven’t purchased anything yet. I think I’m leaning towards the leather boot that’s more moldable. My toes started to go numb from the bottom of the tongue pressing on the top of my toes, so I’ll have to experiment with having the toe area being loose, as well as top portion, to really get a feel for the fit. Exciting stuff! Then I’ll have to find butt pads that actually cover the right areas and don’t hurt worse than no pads! 😆
Did you try a narrow width boot?
@ unfortunately, only the ball of my foot is wider than the rest, with the appearance of a little bunion that doesn’t cause any issues, so I couldn’t do narrow for that reason.
Ah-ha! You should definitely work with your tech to have your boots custom shaped.
I'm about to transition from Jackson stock boots to Edea Overture. Now that I can choose a blade for the boots, I've been really on the lookout for which model to go for. Many people have recommended the JW Coronation Ace, but I really like the way the Coronation Ace Lites look. What are the pros/cons of using the Lite version rather than the original?
Coronation Ace Lite is a slimmer blade that allows for quicker change of edge and improved glide,e especially for smaller skaters. I recommend it to skaters like my skater Peyton - she's very petite! If you are taller than 5'3 and weigh more than 100 lbs, and working on jumps, I would stick with the original Coronation Ace. If you watch my videos about blades, I discuss slimline blades in Part 1: th-cam.com/video/SCTmQDZMyN0/w-d-xo.html However, if you are not concerned with jumping it would be ok for the average build person, especially for synchro. Talk to your coach and skate tech before you purchase.

Hello, thank you for your review ! I started skating with Jackson’s and I would like to switch to Edea’s but I'm not sure wich one to choose. My current skates are too stiff so I was looking for something more confortable. I manage all the single jumps an started working on doubles. I skate only twice a week. Do you thing Concerto might be an option? As you said everyone is wearing ice fly so I felt I should go for them but I think it would be too much for me.
It's honestly a matter of personal preference. Ask you coach their opinion and definitely get a fitted and try them on.

I don’t need to change blade sizes because I already went down 1/4 a size to match with my current skates, and they’re perfect for my Edea size.
I tried 260C in Chorus twice at a shop. The first time, both feet felt severe pain. The second time, for some reason, the heels wouldn’t sink in.
I then tried 260D Chorus. Like the perfect outline of my feet.
There was no pain. They sunk in.
You said Concerto and then Chorus. Which one are you getting?

My smaller right foot might slip into the boot more easily… I’m hoping I could wear 2-mm cotton socks, rather than really thin stockings…
@@KP-zd3hc I believe that the padding is the same. However, I have never tried the Chorus. Edea skates are meant to be custom shaped (not traditionally heat molded as you would with Jackson by placing them into a skate over). Your tech will use a high-powered hair dryer to shape to boot to your foot to prevent any slipping or pressure points. You should wear thin skating socks or go barefoot. Do not wear thicker socks, as that will prevent the proper fit!
Thank you Aimee for this in depth comparison, information! I am currently in piano boots, and absolutely love them until 2 hours mark, where my left ankle is starting to hurt every time, I usually skate 3 hours a day and final hour is always in a bit of pain, which often results me almost limping off the ice to loose the laces for 5/10 minutes, and then I can usually do another 30 minutes or so with minimum discomfort.. Regardless I purchased concerto boots to see if its going to make q difference... unfortunately it takes a while getting 295 size in black, but once I get them i might update this comment if anybody else will find it useful, pianos are great but can be painful for long sessions!
Very few skaters really need the support of a Piano. Concerto can take a while to get regardless of size/color - they are just not as popular as the Ice Fly so they don't make as many. But, they are worth the wait!
Started skating with Jackson’s then I switched to Edea’s. I had 2 pairs of choruses, broke the second one down in 2 months total collapsing them. Now I am in Jackson’s again but they collapsed again! Anyways now I am choosing between concertos and ice flys.
It sounds like you are very hard on your boots! You could also be in an in incorrect size or not lacing them correctly. Do you go to a fitter? What have they said about it?
Hi! Just collecting opinions, I've already consulted a few local skate techs and coaches! I don't think Edea will work well for me. Do you have any advice on Jackson vs. Riedell? I had Riedell skates for many years, most recently the Stride 223. I switched to a Risport (RF3 Pro) in November when I got a good deal on gently used and have regretted it ever since. Not only do they hurt my feet, they don't stay tight around the ankle at all, I have to stop every 20 minutes or so to fix the laces.
I have pretty flat feet, wide-ish at the ball, but narrower at the heel. I'm considering Jackson Debut and Premiere, and Riedell Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Vega. I'm going to stick with Coronation Ace blades for now.
I have only ever worn Riedell and Edea. I have narrow feet and very narrow heels, so I was always recommended Riedell but struggled because the heels always slipped even in narrow widths. My last pair of Ridell were Silver Stars and I could never get them to fit correctly. When I switched to Edea that was the first time that a boot ever fit me! Many of my skaters wear Jackson and Risport. However, one Risport skater just switched to Edea and was instantly amazed at the difference. Everyone is different. It's best to discuss your options with your coach and try them all on when you get fitted. One suggestion that I have to also consider MK Professional blades. JW and MK are different brands under the same parent company and many of my skaters love the MK Pro!
Went to this skate shop with the intention of buying Edea Overture and JW Coronation Ace blades, and they tried to sell me Jackson Freestyles that were uncomfortably small and hurt my toes for the same price or more, so they could actually make money on the sale. I was told that by them too. It was not a good experience. I don't like being taken advantage of, I'm not stupid. Anyway, bought Edea Chorus with those blades instead. Hopefully, they don't try to give me anything used or old. I'm kind of taken aback because some moms with skating kids walked in as I was checking out. Like I know they make less money selling Edea, but that is not good customer service or business model and will hurt repeat sales. I should have bought online from the authorized dealer and just had the blades installed and sharpened locally, would have saved a lot of money. Anyway, you live you learn.
That's unfortunate! Unfortunately, when you purchase them online they will still need to sharpened and custom shaped and you cannot do that yourself. Rather than purchasing them online, I suggest that you go to another shop that specializes in Edea.

May I ask if you are still happy with a C width for a narrow foot? My daughter has narrow feet, but our local shop said it is only possible to order the Overtures in C width, and he can narrow the heel area to make it fit her foot better. Would you recommend this approach?

Hi Aimee! One thing I'm curious about is the difference in the shape of the toe box in the Concerto, Ice Fly (also curious about the Piano too). Could you comment on this? Getting back on the ice as an adult skater I reordered Ice Flies which I wore previously but I'm finding them really uncomfortable skating longer sessions - so while I'm glad I didn't go for the Piano now, I'm thinking maybe I need to switch to Concerto for comfort. There is no difference in the toe box out of the box. However, your authorized Edea tech will usually custom shape the toe box (and the rest of the boot) for your unique feet. The toe box can be lifted and even squared depending on what you need. If you didn't have your boots custom shaped when you purchased them, visit your Edea retailer to have them shaped appropriately for you.
hi aimée, how long do you think the concertos will last me? I'm 14, weigh 134 pounds (60kg), 5'4 (163cm) and working on toeloop, loop, and sal; im currently skating in overtures for about 3 months now but im constantly paranoid they will break down because i spend about 4-5 hours on the ice each week, and during holidays probably 20 hours a week ice time, so im looking into stronger skates that will last longer :) feel free to advise me on this even if u arent aimée tho
I can't really say because it depends on so many things! Generally, you should plan to purchase new skates every year.
Hi Aimee! Thank you so much for the detailed review! I'm a beginner skater (1). Would you think that the Concertos for a beginner would be extreme overbooting? I'm a skier who has decided to take figure skating since besides being a beautiful sport, it's also a sport I can do all year, unlike skiing which I have to stop when the season is over. I have extremely thin ankles, narrow feet and my ski boots are stiff to give me extra support. I can't skate on rentals due to lack of proper ankle support. I want to invest in great skates that will last. I'm an aggressive skier, but just a beginner skater, 163 cm tall (about 5'4") and 53 kg (110 pounds, I believe?). I demo'ed a couple boots recommended for beginners (jackson, I believe) and they felt too soft and not properly supportive. After researching, I am convinced I want to buy Edea boots, just unsure if I should get the ones recommended for beginners & then upgrade later or just get the Concertos. Being a skier, I know the importance of having proper foot gear for the sport and not intimidated by price. Would highly appreciate your guidance (my skating teacher says Edea is great brand and since I'm an athlete in another sport, I should get what I see proper, as long as I get them fitted, which is not very enlightening lol)
You really cannot overboot with Edea! That said, I did find that Pianos were too supportive for my preference. I love my Concertos! I would highly recommend that you go to your authorized dealer and try on Overture, Chorus, and Concerto and see which feels best to you with advise from your coach and professional tech.

Yes, indeed, sport foot wear must be tried on and fitted in person, I'd never buy my ski boots in the blind without having them fitted so I don't plan to do the same with skating. I found an Edea dealer about 1 hour and a half away from me (I'm living in Tokyo Japan) and will make an appointment to go. Your videos and content has been amazing advise for me and I highly appreciate to have your opinion on this. Thank you so much for taking time off your busy schedule to reply to me. I'll mention Chorus, Overture and Concerto to the dealer, upon making the appointment. They mention the demand for Edea boots has been high and they might not have a certain model in stock.
It's fairly common that a dealer may not have exactly what you need in stock. Most shops will order them for you - many will order multiple sizes or models so that you can try them on, too - some may require a deposit or charge a fee for a fitting when that is necessary to prevent customers from using the shop's services but then buying online.
@ Ohhhh that's excellent to know! It seems like figure skating fitting works similarly to ski boots fitting. They do say in their website that due to demand not all models might be available, but they do accept reservations. It's night time here, but I plan on calling them tomorrow to make an appointment and let them know which models I'm interested in trying on. I don't mind paying a deposit/fee, since I will indeed be buying from them whichever model fits me best and if they work anything like ski boots fitting, they will charge for boot fitting services plus the cost of the foot wear itself, which I don't mind paying either. It's not a cheap service but it garantees that we perform our sports in the best way with foot wear that fits us properly. Thank you SO SO much, Aimee

I'm just about the same size as you. Are you blades 9.5? Also how do you feel about the C vs. B width? I'm contemplating getting Concerto 255B or Piano 255C. This is due to an availability thing. Can you tell me more about the difference with those?

It's best to discuss with your child's coach and professional skate tech as there are so many reasons to select one boot over the other. In addition, trying them on so that she can feel them is always recommended!

You need a tech to fit you! Discuss this with your coach.

Hii! I’m quite a beginner I am working on single jumps (I can jump pretty high I just land on two feet) I’m 16 ,5’5 and I weigh about 50 kg. I currently have the overture skates and there very broken. My coach recommended me the ice flies since he says that all the other edea skates break very fast. I’m not really sure if I should get them since there very advanced . Would appreciate it so much if you could help me❤️
That hasn't been my expereience. I'm on the ice 20-30 hours a week and I'm heavier than you - I've had my Concertos for nearly a year now and they show no signs of breakdown. I've found them to be more comfortable too. I would go to a professional tech and get fitted - it depends on so many factors including your style of skating.
I have the chorus and they’re great but my foot has grown and now they’re too small. I was thinking of getting concerto but my skate shop doesn’t have them listed on the website so I’m not sure if they have them in person. I might have to get the chorus again air get ice flies😢😢
It's best to go to the store for a fitting as most shops don't list everything they have on the website.
I'm thinking to buy edea fly or piano's, but I'm not sure which one. For one hand I prefer the pianos because they are very beautiful and also very stiff (and that makes them last more), but I think that they are very expensive, and the price of the fly are better😅 I like to lace my skates very tight and rn I'm just doing single jumps (including axel) but I'll start with doubles soon! Which boot do you thing would be better??
Pianos are very stiff and not for everyone. The price difference is not that great between the two. But, you should ask your coach and consult with a pro tech because it depends on so many things!
is the toe box different between them? Becuse I have chorus and I tried ice fly and the toe box was very different, however I read that the toe box changed. I need to change them, they are very soft.
The toe box is the same. Edea can be custom shaped including the toe box.
How do you keep your skates in this perfect condition?
Oh my skates are not in perfect condition! Lol! But I do clean them with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and touch them up with Edea polish, after each sharpening. I take out the old laces, clean them, polish them and then replace the laces with a new pair.
Are you left handed?

@ I thought so. I skate the direction that you do, spinning on my right leg and landing on my left, but I am right handed.
