I agree with you. I am a vintage MF lens user for years and I can say that TTArtisan makes impressive stuff. The 23mm f/1.4 is my favorite 35mm equivalent lens and I am using it on my a6000 almost all the time. In character and build quality it rivals the top tier MF lenses from Zeiss, Voigtlander and Meyer Optik and given the price this is mind blowing! The color rendition is solid but it’s strength for me is black and white, because of the amazing contrast. Really, is a must have lens. You can do low light shooting or take advantage of the 1.4 aperture for artistic purposes and if you want a very sharp image, stop it down to f/8 for a great prime look.

At first I watched your channel for all the good comparison reviews and stuff. But now I think I'm here for your charming personality and Christopher Nolan like looks.
I really like TTArtisan, I own their 100mm f2.8 m42 lens and it gets sooo much use. If I do ever get an apsc mirrorless camera I’ll most likely get this lens. It’s such a nice lens in every way in my opinion, ticks every box for me for a 35mm equiv lens.
I could tell immediately that lens A was the expensive one, because of the depth of field, sharpness and contrast, but do not see those differences as terribly significant. I'm so amateur though that the lack of AF scares me away a little bit. I'm much more of an audio person, and am never going to be a sophisticated videographer. Entertaining as always!
Interesting little thing. Great video as always :) I have one manually lens and it is the Canon FD 50mm 1.4 which my father used to take pictures of us. Now I'm able to adapt that on my A7IV and take pictures of my own family :) That's the cool thing about manual lenses, they can survive decades of camera bodies - see Leica M-mount lenses.
I force myself on a trip to UK by using manual focus lens for 2 weeks and I can't go back to auto focus now! the concentration, a bit slower pace, and the total control of the situation, also the rethinking and recomposition after getting the subject in focus is more appealing to me as the true "photography" IMO. I got a lot more "useful" photo than from those autofocus lens. I think there is some kind of subconscious action when we using autofocus lens. Every Time I heard the "peep" sound I will assume it is all ok and automatically press the shutter button, it is kind of a mandatory sequence without any more thinking in the head. And more often we find out later it focused on the wrong subject! Then I get use to the action of firing a series of shots and select the best one out of a tones of photo afterward. It is not fun to me.
My friend Mark Weimels (has a great TH-cam channel) is much happier manually focusing. It becomes something a lot of photographers prefer. It can be so much fun
Ok Mark, I'll make you happy since you make me happy with your awesome videos. I use an old Minolta Rokkor 50mm f/1.7 sometimes, or a Helios, and even an Industar. I really dig the look of that 23, and no complaints about an f/1.4 (manual or not).
Mark, have you ever tested out the TT artisan 25mm F2 lens? If so, how you think in terms of video quality that lens compares to this one? The 25 looks more attractive because it's more of a pancake size lens.
Hi, Mark. This might be a dumb question, but does this lens allow focus points to appear on the digital screen at least when you're manually focusing? Or does it never tell you which part of the image is in focus? Great video as always. Nice subtle color scheme change as well!
I've used TTArtisans prime lenses on my Lumix GX85 and they're excellent for someone learning framing and focal length (and honestly just need a constant shot without hunting). Ironically enough, I will be receiving my new Sony ZV-E10 on Friday! Upsold my Lumix LX10 for a ZV-1 a few months back and it's made me want to fully commit to Sony. Picked up a Sigma 16mm 1.4 as well to go with the kit lens and I'm stoked to finally complete the full transition from Panasonic
Always great reviews... With the focus breathing will it be bad if tracking with a dolly in /out on a subject using a Dji Lidar that keeps subject in focus and in frame like a follow focus..
I just got this lens after see so many good reviews. How do I know / test if my lens is normal? I saw so many review said this lens is sharp wide open in the center. My copy doesn’t seem that sharp. It has like hazy / foggy effect glow all over the place. Idk if it’s because I shot in a restaurant pointing toward a direction of multiple windows or not. I shot again in my room under more control light. It seems fine but wasn’t that impressive. I know it won’t be the sharpest ever but idk what to expect. I would like to have this lens because of the look and focal length but idk if I should exchange to a different copy or keep this one. I have sigma 18-50 and it is a lot sharper or less hazy so far. Idk if I should use sigma to compare the center sharpness.
I use this lens on a7iv. If you engage active stabilisation and a bit of clear image zoom in full frame mode you get like 26ish with no mechanical vignette. Not to mention the obvious crop mode use.
Oh and if you can ask them to send you the 50 f0.95 apsc one. Or just get it yourself. It just works on a full frame camera too, and is not bad at all. Banger for the price.

My image on the a6600 and fx30 are completely distorted and blured. I dont know if the lens has a problem or if it is some settings I need to change...
I wanna say “A” (0:05) is a tiny bit sharper in the face, while “B” (0:10) is just a tiny bit blurrier in the face. I prefer “B” because I think that it smooths out the skin. I’ll hit play and watch the rest of the video now.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I have a suite of c-mount lenses that are intended for CCTV cameras. The 6mm, 16mm, and 25mm have horrible vignetting unless you opt to use clear image zoom to 1.5. The 35mm (f1.6) on the other hand takes some pretty cool photos while the 50mm (f1.4) has saved my bacon on two different projects now. The I think the 50 has 13 aperture blades maybe? The bokeh is insane on it. Most of these lenses were made by Pixco I think. I just got a step-up ring that will allow me to use my variable ND on the 35, with another on its way that will hopefully work for the 50. I might have to sacrifice some minimum focus distance to do it, but so be it. I hope to use it to get some slow-mo shots of my hummingbirds this summer with the orange honeysuckle in full bloom behind it so all you see is an orange and green blur behind the beautiful hummingbird.
Has anyone tried this lens on a FF camera, like the Sony A7 or the Canon eos RP ? Will it cover the sensor size? I'm looking for something more artsy... so if it covers with minor vignetting that's what I'm after ... also if it gives the purple corners because of the light-angle , then it's also a no-go. Any idea?
