Question - What's the use of this multi-body functionality? What was wrong with creating an assembly and assembling all of the sheet metal parts together there?. Thanks.

I’ve addressed this multiple times. I suggest going back to my Creo 7 Multibody videos where I discuss use cases or the blogs I’ve written for PTC on Multibody, especially in relation to Top Down Design. Short answer, it’s another tool in your toolbox that provides a faster alternative for simpler assemblies or can be used in conjunction with TDD. If it’s not your cup of tea, don’t use it.
