    Penn and ugly stick is all I have. Fish don't bite based on how expensive the rod is.

    Another rod that is durable and dependable; one that I call “Ol’ Faithful” is the Berkeley Big Game Power Series rod. $23 - $25 dollars at Walmart. The fiberglass flexes nice so you don’t snap a rod tip on a cast you “Whip out there.”
    Berkeley Big Game Power Series rods are a Great choice as well! $23 - $25 dollars at Walmart.

    The fish don’t give a damn what the rod looks like
    Location and bait is what you need to catch
    Ugly stick all the way, they work simple as that

    I just purchased an Ugly Stik GX2 7’0 (1 piece) Medium Heavy Spinning rod paired with my PENN Fierce II spinning reel spooled with 30lb braid and a light leader. And I LOVE THIS SETUP! The colors match PERFECTLY! And PENN performance matched with the performance of the Ugly Stik is like a match made in Heaven!
    I literally fished (throwing lures) for 7 HOURS! I wasn’t even tired. This rod and reel setup is so light and ninja like; very good finesse rod but still with POWER to pull up larger fish! There are couple TH-cam videos of guys catching 7 foot aligator gar on the Ugly Stik GX2’s and 7 foot sharks on the GX2’s.
    This is probably one of THE BEST multi-species fishing rods available today.

    A lot of people hate in the Ugly Stik. But no inserts to fall out and durable as all get out. I have three. At $40 each you cannot go wrong.

    I just got an UltraLight 5' UglyStik. I really like it! The bluegills and crappie don't seem to care what kind of rod I use! It feels good in my hand, and when I'm casting from the bank out of brush and trees and crap, getting snagged...it works for me!

    I see you got that PENN Fierce II! I got the PENN Fierce II Combo (10 ft with an 8000 size PENN Fierce reel)… but the rod tip SNAPPED on the cast after about 2 years of ownership. It happened RIGHT AFTER I caught my Top 3 PB Largemouth Bass (21 inches long between 6-9lbs I didn’t have a scale) in October 2020.
    So I took the PENN 8000 reel and put it on my 9 ft Mr. Catfish rod that I had for 5-6 years… THAT ONE SNAPPED ON THE CAST TOO! IN THE SAME SPOT AS MY PENN FIERCE II.
    So now… LOL! The PENN Fierce II 8000 reel is about to have a 3rd home. I just ordered a Ugly Stick Big Water 12 ft rod, and after what everyone is saying about Ugly Stick online and in TH-cam videos (and comment sections) I have a pretty good feeling about this one.

    • @ccol009

      I take very good care of my rods and my gear. I shore fish alot so I need a rod that will not break after CONTINUOUSLY SLINGING, AND WINGING my lures and bait out far. I still like PENN, but I am looking to try something New to me and different / better. And I have heard nothing but good things from people about Ugly Sticks! Kinda like how everyone has nothing but good things to say about a Porsche.

    Had my traditional 6ft 1 pc Ugly Stik since 9/11 and it still is good. Then I got a cheap Wal-Mart special $16 combo which I keep in the trunk at all times for those opportune moments. And for 2 years I have the GX2 medium action 2 pc. Ugly Stik does the job.

  • @fredflintstone1547

    I've had 3 Ugly Sticks in my life and they are the only only rods that I have confidence in for the price point. Right now my two rods are both Ugly Sticks. I have a 7' Medium-Power, Fast-Action, 6-15#. I have 10# Flourocarbon on it as my go everywhere rod this spring/summer. It's seen many years of service and is stronger than the Medium-Power and line weight designation would suggest.
    For my big rod I wanted to stick with and Ugly Stick because I know that they are quality and tough for the price. However I wanted something for catfish, pier/surf, salmon/steelhead. I knew what I was looking for because my Dad had a long, strong, super-sensitive Fishing rod when I was a kid that his Dad gave to him. It had been a very nice rod at some point in history but it was falling apart when I was a kid. I wanted my new rod to be a rod like that one.
    After much research and some mental back and forth I eventually settled on a GX2 of 9' Medium-Power, 4-20#. This rod has some great qualities like casting, a strong-low backbone, and excellent sensitivity to the line and rig. However the action on this rod is really slow and the rod is so sensitive that bites and even hooked fish can get 'washed out'. At times the line feels like it's being sucked into a blackhole and my rod is bending to follow it into oblivion. I once reeled in a dead surf perch because I failed to realize that I had a fish on. The bite, the fight, the current, the waves, and the feel of the weight dragging on the sandy bottom all combined with the rods dynamics to completely 'wash out' the experience of hooking and catching a fish. This is exactly how a 'shitty' fishing rod would perform in my opinion, but after a couple years of fishing with the GX2 I have come to learn that I ask to much of this rod. I bought a rod that would perform many duties, and still allow for the feel of the gravel on the riverbed or the texture of the vegetation in the lake. I bought a freshwater rod that is exceptional for lakes and all but the most raging of rivers with a low-end line-test rating of 4#. My GX2 is a great catfish rod. and would be good for steelhead/salmon as well. When I take that same, sensitive rod to the ocean surf it can be like trying to fish with a spring-pole or a rubber band. The Rod's super-slow action can't compute a bite in the presence of ocean tides + ocean waves.
    Either I should have bought a rod that was Medium-Heavy or this rod should have been designed with a much faster action - I think both.
    I learned a valuable lesson with this rod about rod-speed and using tackle that is too 'light' or underpowered for the current and/or weights needed to hold bait steady.
    What I would like to do is make a straight-trade with somebody for a rod that is 9' MH, 10-30# with a fast action. I wonder if people do swap-meets for fishing gear....

  • @whalescience8831
    @whalescience8831 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've got alot of rods, many of them that cost more than I'd ever admit to my significant other, but my go to rod has always been an ugly stik and they've never disappointed.
    People complain about the quality of the blank or the action but these rods simply work and can handle the abuse of being thrown in a trunk/truck bed or landing giants that would break any other rod of similar lengths or actions.

    We have to go through the woods alot to find new holes . No trail these rods hold up smacking off trees on the way to the spot. They get used fresh and salt it takes me ten years to break one. The only rods I buy now I have broken higher prices rods fast. They do the job and do it for along time with no love. With a good price. It allows me to buy much better reels for the money saved. I go after big fish I keep 50 pound test on gx2 s and 100 on my tigers . With no issues I use heavy line for freeing snags and big fish. We fish the banks and on the water. Happy fishing

Some of mine are 25 years old and have been put thru all kinds of use and abuse. I have 6 GX2 rods. Two 7 footers and four 9 footers. I wouldn’t sale or trade them for anything. Recently caught a 15 pound flathead catfish on one of my 9 footers. Got bent double but handled it like a champ.

    May i use sinker weights on Ugly Stik gx2 medium 6 on saltwater like big ocean in middle east?

    What technique we can used on this Ugly Stik GX2 ?

    • @NTXFishin
      @NTXFishin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would not recommend using the 6 ft. medium 2-piece rod for that application. The 6 ft medium heavy or the 7 ft medium heavy would be a better choice. The medium heavy rods are a lot stiffer and can handle heavier weights. If you are using small lures and jigs for fish under 10 pounds, then the 7 ft medium 2-piece spinning rod would be a good choice. For heavy offshore jigging, I would not recommended the GX2 series of rods.
