  • This webinar will highlight how motivational interviewing can be used with patients in order to create a therapeutic win-win situation. We will examine the similarities and differences between motivational interviewing and traditional therapy and provide a few simple tools that clinicians can easily integrate into their repertoire:
    Learning objectives:
    - Identify appropriate motivational strategies for each stage of change and be familiar with applications of motivational approaches and specific treatment settings.
    - Identify the four types of client resistance.
    - Identify the assumptions about the nature of motivation and the five elements of motivational approaches.
    - Identify the assumptions upon which motivational interviewing is a counseling style is based, and explain the seven principles underlying the stepped care approach to delivering treatment services.
    - Be familiar with ways of measuring self-efficacy, readiness for change, decisional balance saying, motivations, and goals and values.
    ABOUT THE SPEAKER
    Linda Lewaniak, L.C.S.W., C.A.A.D.C.
    Director - The Center for Addiction Medicine | Director of Outpatient Programs - Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital
    Linda Lewaniak, L.C.S.W., C.A.A.D.C. is Director of The Center for Addiction Medicine and Director of Outpatient Programs at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. Ms. Lewaniak is a graduate of George Williams College of Aurora University and obtained her Masters in Social Work from Jane Addams College of Social Work. Linda has twenty-five years experience with psychiatric and addictions services. She manages The Center for Addiction Medicine which includes inpatient detox, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment and all levels of DUI services. These programs target the substance abuse needs of adolescents, adults, and older adults. As Director of Outpatient Services, Linda has management and oversight responsibilities for the following outpatient programs: Adult/Geriatric, Adolescent, Child, Eating Disorders, Self Injury, OCD and Anxiety related disorders. Linda has a private practice in Glen Ellyn and Naperville since 1999. Ms. Lewaniak regularly conducts presentations around the Chicago land area educating the community on recent trends in the field of Addiction Medicine and mental health disorders.
