Another beautiful bag! Good that you are saving some of those clothes from oblivion/possible landfill. I recently cut up an old pair of faded flannel pajama pants and used squares of that fabric as the batting for coasters made from pretty quilting cotton and felt quite virtuous 😄. It sounds like a wonderful thing to have expert help with fitting and developing a sloper - hope you have a great time and come home with solid results.
I totally agree with you on the idea of vacation souvenirs! I have some linens and cotton lawn that I purchased in Stockholm that I absolutely treasure and will always be memorable.
Love the pockets book. Tell Ron he must come to Virginia and whip me in sewing shape. Just frustrated with a sewing thing I can’t figure out right now. Hopefully I will get it soon. One eye down and three to go. My son and I are doing the cataract surgery this spring & summer. So far he has done one eye. Glad you enjoyed your beautiful vacation down In Phoenix. The desert can indeed be a beautiful place.
Love this blogs. The bag is sooo cute! I’m glad you made it to Phoenix. I’m sure all the snowbirds have gone home. It’s way to hot for me starting in late April . I miss all my Canadian sewing friends when I’m home . The desert is so beautiful when it’s in bloom.
Your bag is really nice!! Love the fabrics on those « mini » skirts - they will make really nice tops. I hope you are able to find fabrics to match them up with. I’m so jealous about your sewing retreat with Ron Collins. Fitting is so hard by yourself!! Taking a jeans and two top patterns is a brilliant idea. Once you’ve got those fitted to yourself perfectly, there are a ton of garments you can make!
Could you put some elastic, maybe even the clear stuff, around your neckline to snug it in a bit? It's a really nice top on you. Its so nice to get to go on a helpful and fun retreat, jealous here 😊. I'll be gardening this weekend too and of course making the yearly strawberry rhubarb crisp. I love it when the rhubarb and the asparagus is ready in the garden. 😊 Have a great long weekend.
You could make tote bags or make up bags with the skirts. Love Love Love the fabrics. Your top reminds me of a neckline that Jackie O would wear, very chic.
Agree with earlier comment on using the short skirt fabric in color blocking tops. I even use my Big4 McCalls TNT knit top pattern when color blocking for scrap busting. Just remember to retrace your pattern and to add all seam allowance’s if blocking the interior bodice (first time I did a blocking I totally forgot to add seam allowance when I blocked the bodice pattern, ugh). Oh well, lesson learned. Envious of your sewing retreat with Ron. Can’t wait to hear all about it.
I have some me made items in my closet that I don't wear anymore. I hang onto them because I love the fabric and hope to get around to refashioning them. Thanks for reminding me. Snow on your roof! Now I know where the crazy cold wind came from all day. Yes, spring is slow, cloudy, smokey, raining, with the RARE surprise of a summer like day. Things have been so slow greening. It was only 3 days ago that the first leaves started opening on the trees. I remember when Ron Collins was discovered and mentored. LOL He was a personable, friendly young man, then, too. Have a good time at your workshop. 🥶 🌷🌷Bernadette
I recently had a similar problem with a neckband on a top and so I folded it in half to the inside and topstitched it down and although it ended up narrower it looked great and was very wearable. I'm enjoying your refashions.❤
Hello Janine, I discovered your channel through Izzie after she spoke about you on her channel Dizzie Quilts and Sews. I think the top you're wearing looks really nice , the first thing I liked about it was the collar since I like that style. I think it's called a funnel collar. Here in Montréal it's a beautiful day and they're calling for a nice holiday weekend. So envious of you being able to attend frocktails. I have a difficult time parting with my clothes that I've sewn , and since I've retired I have had to donate the outfits I wore to work, took me a while to realize that hey I won't be wearing them. Hope it's not true that they are aii put in a rag pile . Like you I keep some of my makes cause I like the fabric and I intend to repurchase it . Hmm will I do it!!!!!!. Anyway I enjoy watching your channel . Have a great Victoria Day weekend.
Your bag is so pretty. I bet you will be asked, "where did you buy that bag?" Next weekend sounds fun. I'm hoping to cut out the Style Arc jeans pattern. I kept waiting until I lost some weight but that is silly. If I manage to actually lose a few pounds I will just alter them. I also want to make Tiana's Closet top, can't remember the name of it. While thrift shopping last week I picked up a small piece of fabric, thinking it would make a great bag lining. When I got home and opened it up, I realized it's actually silk! There I about 1.3 meters, but it's only 90 cm. wide. It's a very pretty multi coloured check and just too special to use as a lining. I'm not sure if there is quite enough fabric for the top, so I decided to look for a complementary fabric for the yokes. I then checked 3 Fabriclands near me, and none of them sold dress weight silk. They had silk drapery fabric (I was tempted to buy some for a jacket but didn't). I ended up getting a sheer polka dotted rayon blend fabric that matched the pink check. So frustrating! All of the fabric in wedding/prom section was polyester. Oh well, I'm sure it will look great. Whenever we travel, I always look for fabric to bring home. Happy long weekend! It's going to be hot in Southern Ontario, with a chance of rain all 3 days. We are going to a vintage festival on Sunday. Last year at this event I bought 2 Mary Quant beach wraps that will hopefully become a midi dress this summer.
I'm trying to salvage some of my knit remnants and tee shirts by making underwear. There are a lot of free patterns available and what the heck? My first attempt used up some god awful bright orange cotton jersey that I ordered online. Needless to say the color was not what I expected. So that was a toile. With my casual lifestyle, I can only wear so many tops, but I can have a drawer full of underwear and they will all get worn.
Can you suggest some on line merchants for garment sewing? Tons of wonderful quilt stores. I am hesitant to order things on line as I don’t want to pay a lot of money and be disappointed when it arrives.

Always a pleasure being with you and hearing what you’ve been up to ❤
Ron Collins is a fantastic instructor. Enjoy your sewing retreat!

Love your bag! The patterns chosen are great basics! Have fun at the retreat!
What a great job on that bag, Jeanine. And sooo pretty. I love crossbodies!

Colour block like Katherine or Marci Tilton creations.
Love the materials you chose!

Love the top you are wearing and you were considering changing it. How about a v-neck conversion.
