My phone lasts for 5.5 hours
I started tracking my usage though screen time, realised I had been spending 4 hours on social media, primarily Instagram.
First step was to limit app usage to 1 hour and only from 8pm to 12pm, the remaining hours, the app would be locked.
I realised how detrimental it was to me.
Finally, I decided to quit social media altogether.
    My attention span increased.
    My memory retention has increased.
Can sit idle for more than 15-20 mins without reaching for my phone (Especially while waiting on someone or for something).
I still consume media, but it’s sniped, search for what’s needed and it ends there rather than content being shown to me regardless of relevance.

My father took away my smartphone and gave me a dumbphone without net to use for a year.. At first I was so pissed that my friends are using smartphone and I'm not.. But after using it for a year I think I learnt a valuable lesson.. I felt a lot of relief and empowered.. Felt like myself not comparing myself with others, Did my jobs on time.. It was a boon in disguise.. I have a smartphone now but I myself have not installed a lot of apps.. only work related apps are there.. you can use a smartphone like a dumbphone also.. I am thankful to my dad for the valuable lesson.. ☺️

Changes I found in myself is that now days i dont care what ppl doing in their social media life , my focus period has been improved

I totally understand how phones have become smart at the cost of human smartness which is degrading due fomos and easy access to sources without any brain racking, scrolling over wasting time. But then for me it is wise use of smartphone which is a better alternative to switching to dumb phones, limiting social media to zero minimising scroll time to near zero by playing playing sports learning new skills or even reading books.

On Smartphones defense I would say that they have come a long way. They give you all the information about your average screentime including statistical data of your daily usage. They also show how much time spend on an app on a daily basis or weekly or even monthly. It also gives you the option to put time limits on apps so that the phone will ask you for permission if you want to open the app beyond the time limit which makes one conscious if they are accessing their phone often. Another things is that you can always turnoff notifications for any app.
PS: I am more busy with work that I don't even have time to check my phone especially for social media except during holidays or weekends but I still carry a Z Fold 4. Once in a while if I use it more, it shows a large red notification in terms of screen time such as "you used your phone more than seven hours of your daily average🤣🤣

The problem is - we think that the problem lies “outside” when actually it is “inside”. If most of the time you remain idle then even with the “dumbphone” you will find ways to waste time. But if you are driven by a dream or a purpose then it wouldn’t matter whether you have a smartphone or a dumbphone because you won’t have much time to spare for it. So it is you who must change and not the items that surround you.

It may not be possible to switch over completely, but one can always find a middle ground or "hybrid" model of phone usage to begin the process.
I use My "regular" smartphone on weekdays because My work demands it, but on weekends I switch to My "dumb phone". That gives a much needed 2 day detox from all the incessant notifications and mindless scrolling that smartphones compell us into. And of course improves productivity and relationships.
Now My target is to switch to dumb phone even after work hours on weekdays. Say from 6 pm to 6 am.
    Let's see.
