    Good video. Some considerations: Your 023 is missing the Winter/Summer baffle (mounts at top, between spark plug & carb) ... this provides pre-heated air, to the carb, for winter (below 40F)
    operation; However, running in warm weather w/o the baffle, will result in engine running "hot" and can ruin the engine. // Also, the aftermarket filter and air intake manifold is for a MS-230 but will fit the older 023, with modifications to the cover. All you need to do is use a Dremel tool to cut & remove the ribs under the cover. Have done this & works well. // Lastly, bad practice to try & clean the old "foam" filter with compressed air. Best to spray with a degreasing cleaner, wash under warm water while squeezing like a sponge, and finally air drying overnight.

    Great video. I've got this same saw, vintage early 90's. It has been a fantastic chainsaw, but now it's dying way too much and I've tried the carb adjustment so I'll start the process you demonstrated here. Good info on that air filter. All my stuff on the saw is Stihl so I can check if the aftermarket design will fit.

    How did the gas hose in the carb melt?? I have the same saw and I am in the middle of changing the motor for the second time. Great, old saws.
    I'm thinking that chunk of foam you're using for a carb filter could be restricting the air intake which is causing it to bog down when cutting thru that log....
    I'm pretty sure the homemade saw blade cover was made from luan plyboard.......

      Those are great observations and ideas! I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching! Not sure about that hose. Seemed like a chemical melt vs heat melt.

    So after it ran, it hesitated when revving, you adjusted it? What did you adjust?

    • @RayofallTrades
      @RayofallTrades  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The low side adjuster. Looks like a screw. That is your idle/ mixture screw. The hi side adjuster is for max rpms. The bottom screw is for idle rpms (not air / fuel mix)

    my 023 will not idle no matter adjustemnt on the low and high, it runs good, but even with idle fully in it will not idle. cleaned and dissasembled carb several times, fuel line filter all good. strange

      I wonder if the crank seals are leaking?

      ok, is that commond? that goes for any of thouse seals, right and left, could it be tested with leak spray perhaps.

    Chain has tendency to run on at idle. Simple cheap fix is to change the 3 springs to improve tension and restore operation of centrifugal clutch..

      I usually look at the reviews and expect that it could be junk and needing to swap again. I've had decent luck using these aftermarket pumps so far

    Throw pulling the saw down by you bare legs, with the chain brake off, while holding a screwdriver pointed at your gut, was about 3 accidents lined up and waiting to happen.
