I have a 21 year old flame point Himalayan cat. I've been getting the lion cut for him over the years. He seems to really come alive after it. Long live "Rio".
I am sending out a big thanks for taking the time to do this video. Of course Buttercup deserves a big kiss for being so patient and a wonderful model. I will try this with Tumnus so maybe his long ruff won't get caught in his mouth when grooming himself. Thanks again, Marci
With Himis, it is all based on temperature. Shaving them cools them down. Just like their extremities are cooler than their body, the body becomes cooler and darkens. If you shave them in wintertime, and immediately put on full body coat or sweater, their body will stay warmer and not darken up as much.
If you watch the video all the way through, I talk about what shaver I use and actually show using it in the video. The link to it is in the Description Box below the video.
Please see the Description Section for the exact brand of clippers, as well as a direct link to buying them on Amazon. I have used this brand and model for years at the Cattery.
I would not recommend it. Cats have very fine hair and it clogs up a human electric trimmer. You would be very frustrated trying to use it. My recommendation is the Arco by Wahl. It is battery operated so you don't have to worry about the cords.
The clipper I use has a 5 in 1 blade. I use the lowest sitting to remove almost all the hair. The link to the clippers is in the Description section below the video.
Just put Arco Wahl in a Google Search. We got our second one on line from sttack.com. Here is the link: www.sstack.com/Horse-Care_ClippersAccessories_Clippers/Wahl-Arco-SE-Cordless-Clipper/. You just shave around the butt area very carefully. I also shave 2" up the backside of the tail. That seems to help also.
Will there be a video on how to do a lion cut? Is that better left to professionals? I've never had that done for my himi, but I brush her a lot and she loves it! Except her hind legs, that's a no-touch zone, and she slaps the brush when I go anywhere near her hind legs. And then she walks away. 😁
Sadly, my beautiful boy Rio passed away 3 weeks ago. He was 21 years old. His ashes are at rolling acres pet cemetery. He is in peace now. He looked just like this cat.
Elizabeth Ferrari. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I can imagine the pain you are in for the baby you lost. 21 years is a long life for a cat. He did well to make it to that age. I am sure it is owed to your dedication to him.
Oh my.... I’m sorry for your loss… I’m still heart broken over the loss of our Buddy in 2011. It’s funny how much I miss him even after so much time. He was our baby boys... My heart goes out to you❤️
Buttercup has a huge long coat that tends to mat very easy and is very hot in the summer. She loves to have a lion's cut. It makes her feel so much cooler in the summer and she does not ingest the fur and block up. I trimmed up her mane so that it would be even and look better.
Wow this cat is really well behaved when having her hair trimmed!

What an adorable cat and Buttercup is a most adorable name‼️
+Imeh Smith Thank you Imeh. Buttercup is named after a flower. All the girls at the Cattery have flower names.
You take such good care of your kitties .. Bravo ! You're an inspiration
Thank you Cristina.
Good job!
She’s so cute. So much hair!!
How adorable
I had to giggle all throughout this video as I have a poodle mix that just goes limp when she doesnt want to cooperate LOL
She’s so beautiful and good! My Persian tries to get away!
Shes precious
Does her white ever turn darker after shaving or cutting her? I have a flame point. But I cut out nots and stuff and he turned darker 🤔🤔🤷♀️

Nice! I would include thinning shears to soften the edges, but that looks good!! Thanks.
My himmie is good like that too. She’s easy to bath too. Loves getting blow dried too. She’s not a fan of the clippers though
How is she holding still for you???
She isn't holding still. I have to keep readjusting her.
Do you have any videos for cleaning cats or kittens teeth?
Sorry, I do not.
Is there a trick to keeping your Persians from throwing up hairballs all the time? Mine gets them a lot. I do shave him in the spring.
Combing them one or twice a day gets a lot of the fur that would end up in their stomach. Using a hairball remedy once a week will help also.
When. Did u get her +Victorian Gardens Cattery
+Macy's Life She was born at the Cattery during our first litter.
what did you use to do the lion cut? my Himalayan's fur is matted.

what trimmer/clippers do you use?

Thank you for such a great informative video!
Buttercup was very good. My cat won't sit still long enough for that amount of grooming.
can i use human trimmer on a cat?

so cute
Can you do a Vedio on cat grooming products which shampoo should be use paw butter etc, it will be great for us
Yes, I do plan on doing some videos on the grooming products I use in the near future.
What number clippers do you use on her belly. I always worry about their nipples. I want to get the mats out but I don’t want to knick her

I'm not sure if I've asked you or not but. I need help finding out where to get the Arco Wahl. Also how to clean my Himalayan butt.
