    I just picked up my first Pvm. (Sony 1340). It was sold as not-working.
    Took it home, reviewed insides, looks decent, no obvious problems.
    Fired it up. I get powe. Degaussing works. I get neck glow and can feel a static charge on the screen but no raster.
    Any idea where to start on this one? I’ve done a bunch of work on arcade crts but never a Pvm. Thanks in advance for your help. I love your videos.

    C'mon folks. We need to get Steve on national and worldwide networks to help him continue to educate the masses on making these great CRT last forever. Let's make it a reality fellas. 8^)

      Hopefully this saves at least a couple CRTs from the landfill.

    Another awesome video. How much to do the NES top loader mod that allows for composite svideo and rgb?

    Hey Steve! I was curious on how you keep all the caps organized and how you remember which ones go where after you take out all the old ones? Are there markings on the board that tell you the cap specs for each cap? Thanks!

      Technically the service manual has a parts list. And the PCBs have codes printed on them that reference the parts list.

      You can also do one at a time.

    Having issues with my sony trinitron, my TV resets itself and I get 13 blinks from the B red LED which I'm given to understand from my service manual is a V Protection error, how do I go about fixing this? or can I? thank you!

    Hello. What was the problem here ? I got a 1440qm that all of a sudden doesn’t turn on. I switched it off the other day then it didn’t came back on. Fuse is ok , caps don’t seem bulged.

    Maybe it's a silly question to ask, but does the same apply to consumer Trinitrons? While I was trying to pick up something I dropped in my CRT while I was gixing the geometry with a plier, it bumped into a part of the power supply, and now my TV won't power on. It shows a red light, but it quickly disappears again.

    Awesome! Thank you so much for all your help! I think you just answered my question I posted on the pvm 2030 calibration video. I have a 2530 that pulsates so I'll check out how to repair it! Is it safe to assume that it will be similar to this monitor?

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it could be. The 2030 has some large caps in the PSU. It's in a different location on that PVM, but it's the same type repair.

    It's always great to see your videos Steve. I have a Dell Trinitron P1130 that a have a slow start (takes some time to show picture), this could be a cause for it or it's a diferent issue?

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CRTs can take up to 30 minutes to fully warm up, but bad caps can contribute to all types of power problems.

      @@RetroTechUSA Tanks for your reply, I will take my monitor to a repair man to properly chech what could be the issue. I just wonder if something in the power supply side of the board was the issue. But anyway thanks Steve.

    Hey Steve! My sony trinitron crt recently switched off halfway through a game of mario kart and began the 2-flashing standby light issue - is what you describe in this video the correct method to fix that issue? From what i can tell online using a different Trinitron model to mine, 2 flashing lights means: Diagnosis: B overcurrent (OCP). Possible causes: H. OUT (Q8024) is shorted. (D board), +B PWM (Q8035, 8038) is shorted. (D board) Symptoms of the problem: Power does not come on, Load on power line is shorted.
    Does this sound about right to you?

    I have a question, my trinitron XBR is showing a green verticle bar when you turn it on, sometimes it turns to snow and then goes away and as long as the TV remains on it doesnt come back. But it comes back whenever you turn the TV back on. It seems to be related to the PIP function. Any ideas please help?

    Any cap kits or resources for the 14M2 and M4Us? I know this is the predecessor before the numbering scheme switched over.

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have complete cap lists for that PVM, but all the caps are listed in the service manual for the PVM.

    Do you ever work on CRT PC Monitors?

  • @DaveFallows

    The big yellow block (Headquarters-looking building) on my g-board has blown liquid everywhere, and the soldering looks like it's in bad shape. Any way this is recoverable? Perhaps it's easier to look out for a G-board from somewhere? :(

    • @WinrichNaujoks
      @WinrichNaujoks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gunk is just glue. Remove it with isopropyl alcohol or similar. Check the caps and maybe swap them, reflow the solder and you're good to go.

    My Sony Trinitron timer light blinks 5 times is this power supply issue?

    • @chemicaltrails4468
      @chemicaltrails4468 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 times, Diagnosis: White balance failure (Not balanced) Possible causes: Video out (IC7101, 7201, 7301) is faulty (CR, CG, CB board), CRT drive (IC309) is faulty (A board), G2 is improperly adjusted. Symptoms of the problem: No raster is generated, CRT cathode current detection reference pulse output is small.
