Xacto Balsa Stripper
(Discontinued but you might find one on eBay or a local hobby shop)
On the Master Airscrew stripper packaging they note that the screw on the thumbwheel adjustment is an 8-32 (maybe 10-32) - and that one full turn of the thumbwheel will move the blade 1/32 of an inch - which will certainly get you close to your desired cut width!
I'm 50+ years old, modeller, have had that Xacto egg shaped item in several different kits, and have NEVER known what the heck they are for until today. The countless money that I have spent buying strip balsa, because I didn't have the right size!!! Thank you for such a clear explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! I have been trying to find out how to use the X-acto stripper. The person who gave it to me thought it was for cutting picture mats, and I suppose it could do that, but apparently not at a bevel. But it's great to have finally learned how to use it, because I do work with balsa wood occasionally.
I bought this kit and it has the balsa stripper in with it. www.xacto.com/products/cutting-solutions/knife-sets/detail/X5087
i do admit that i couldn't work out how to use it until i saw this vid so thanks for that ;)
Omg yes thank you I just picked one up in a bundle and couldn't for the life of me find a video of someone using it or a manual anywhere
Glad you found it useful.
Thank you for this video, I was wondering how to use the balsa stripper after I bought the xacto knife set at a car boot sale. Now I know how to use, many thanks.
Really useful, thanks 😀
Do you know how to get a straight cut with balsa going against the grain? So cutting a long wide thin piece the other way?
Now and then for years I’ve tried to find information on this tool. It came in an X•Acto wood box kit. Thank you so much for including this tool. You even show how to use and operate it, awesome!
Glad it helped you out!
don't you have to "dress/straighten" the edge before you begin using these tools?
Only if you are using something that isn't straight.
