That's why as the first car at the red light you always stop 2-3 metres before the stop line so you have space to maneuver in emergencies. No point pushing yourself forward right at the line, you're going nowhere as long as the light is red. It's a good practice to stop where you can see the line from the driver's seat above your car's bonnet. And when you are behind, make sure to leave enough distance so you can see the entire bumper of the car in front of you. It's not only good for emergencies, but also minimize the chance of you hitting the car in front in case you get rear-ended.
You don't need to give them 10m of spare room. Move a little forward and to the side, in the space between the line and the crossing. If you're the first one at a red light, stop a bit before the line and not directly on it so you have somewhere to move in this situation.
@@anzeg- hmm may be. but i had been in that position. 1st one on signal and i noticed ambulance siren. and it was stucked behind few cars and no car had any room to move to give space. so what i did i just crossed the line and stand on side. so the cars behind will have some space to give ambulance way. I thought at that time. I can do that because traffic rules comes way far behind then human life.
@@dxbtalal I think crossing the line a little is fine for this, as long as you're not a: blocking the whole crosswalk and b: not inside the intersection itself, blocking traffic I don't think red light cameras flash the second you're over the line, they detect if you go in the intersection.
dont cross when its red what a stupid law... i mean we do it in gemany, if a emergency vehical is approching you have to give way... that also means that you can drive over a red light if you need to do it to give way
