47, Frith Street...Ronnie's place Eccentric doormen. Dimly lit. A hallowed place. I was there with the spell-bound audience that night. Had to pinch myself to prove I wasn't dreaming. In the presence of The Divine One. I still get the goose-bumps when I think of her. What an absolutely superb vocal range she had...especially her sweeps down into her baritone voice. We miss you "Sassy".
Thanks for this , I played this recording till I almost wore it out. Sarah Vaughan at Ronnies circa 1977. The whole album is magical and a fantastic recording. Sarah's voice was unforgettable, thank you again for this recording.
There are some things that are so beautiful, so perfect they move you to tears beautiful they can awaken all the bittersweet and poignant memories. This wonderful masterpiece is one.
THIS is the first time ever hearing Ms. Sarah Vaughan!!! What a jewel, now I can hear those she’s influences such as: Anita Baker, Rachel Ferrell, Dianne Reeves, Ledisi and others. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for all of your comments! I'm very happy that I could share this wonderful track with you all. I have heard many versions of this song but for me personally, none compare to the 'divine one'. I will try and post more from this album. Enjoy
My God.. I just got chills. I LOVE this original version by Quincy & Bernard Ighner? But... To find out MY Sarah has a rendition? And it's as intimate as this?! On top of that it's rare as hell? Just made my night.. Thank you so much!!
..What else is they to say about the greatest of all..Sarah Vaughn....other than....she's passed through the portals of time and life....thank you, Sarah, for everything sincerely, Danny Barrett
There are singers, there are even great singers and then there is Sarah Vaughan, whose voice when first heard stops people dead in there tracks. Thanks so much for posting.
Just came 🏡 from 💪 n started crying while playing Randy's version them Sarah's version brought out a deeper cry n tapered my tears now I'm going for Nina's version
Wow! I just got goosebumps! This really is rare as all hell! I always thought Oleta Adams version was the best, until I now realized that Oleta Adams version IS Sarah Vaughn's version. If you listen to Oleta Adams CD version, it is identical to this one, just more modern and up-to-date at the time it was released. Ms. Oleta Adams truly truly does justice to Sarah Vaughn's version. What a tribute to her in my mind.
Wow! This is just 4 years after I saw Sarah for my first time. It was in Boston in 1973 at Symphony Hall. I was 19 years old and I fell in love with The Divine One. That was 37 years ago and, for me, she is still The Divine One. Rain comes from the clouds, sun lights up the sky, and Sarah Vaughan makes me cry.
You're welcome! I actually spent 21 years looking for this album, for this song in particular. She also recorded a studio version on an album called 'I've got it good' which she recorded for the french label Harmonia / Mundi. Even harder to find!
Everything must and does change. True. And my love for Sarah Vaughans' voice is no exception, it grows deeper and deeper with time. So many years after her death and I like so many others still miss her. If you were lucky enough to have seen her perform in person you would understand. Thank you afrophonic for posting thisw gem.
@afrophonic Wow... there is still tons of things left to find I am sure, and many things still sitting in the vaults collecting dust for some reason or another. I still have not heard the duet she did with James Ingram ... and of course many other live concerts ... I did find Ronnie Scotts and thank goodness that's out on CD, but they really should have added more , this track as well... Thank you...
I believe Sarah's great friend Joe Williams sang/used this arrangement at the Smithsonian Institute in the early 1990s on Kultur Video... It sounds very similar to me...of course, absent the gorgeous, divine voice of magic
I just found this record in a local vinyl shop!! It's so scratched but I'm crazy about this period of Vaughan's career. I have both the Ronnie Scotts albums now. I wish they'd put all the songs recorded from those dates on CD. What a musician! Who's doing anything like this now?
A nice version of this song, but then Sarah, or Sassy, like Nat King Cole, never sang a bad song. She never recorded a bad song if you are a fan. I am.
Oh i can just imagine...you know I have the full Mainstream recordings at some point I'd love to post them all, I can ONLY post what's not commercially available... But I read the biography and on one album they did other tracks...The album with the Jimmy Rowles Quintet ...I have that album and hope to post it , but it pains me that there were three more songs recorded and not released, and probably won't be :(
Wow! Sarah Vaughn had that one in a millennia voice! She went all the way in on that scat, the range, the melody, fullness of sound! 💯✔♥♥♥
The new generation don't know what music is! THIS IS MUSIC AT IT'S BEST! Recognize it!

The Divine Sarah Vaughn. She sings as if she created the song herself and she knows exactly what she is singing about. An angel.
Sarah is unmatched!!

The musicians are great too. Her voice and their sounds makes listening to music easy. So great.
Divine...Sassy at her best...what a rich tone...no one like her.
Simply the most unique voice I've ever heard..I sure miss her and Carmen

I can totally agree with your comments. I love Oleta Adams' version. We can see where the influences are coming from.
What a find. Been a long time Sarah fan but didn't know she sang this too.
I always liked Karrin Allyson's version best but now I found a new one!!
Masterful, beautiful and incomparable!

My new favorite version of the song. When the break comes 3:53 in the song, it becomes a full on eargasm!!! Brilliant beyond belief...
Awesome ‼️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Incredible!

The one and only Sarah
The Divine One

Who's doing anything like this now?
She sings it with so much feeling
And we go back even further.
Awesome
She hits the register from deep base to high c but does it never leaving the melody but improves it making the lyrics that much more meaningful.
You dropped a nugget. Thanks
Love me some, SASSY🥰

Who else listened to this on 90.9 Detroit?
@afrophonic ever find it??
Do you have any more from the LP? It would be great to hear since there is only a handful of tracks of this on TH-cam.
I just love her
Beautiful!!
