I love that this video was shot in "average guy" land. I mean, you all weren't on 6,000 acres of private land, guided right on to where the buck was by a guy who watched him bed down the night before. I'm tired of watching that stuff as it doesn't seem to represent reality. You bumped into other hunters, missed shots, etc. In the end, however, you were successful. Thanks guys.
I agree with Clint Edwards, this video entertained me more than most others I've seen due to the realness and relatable factors that go on in the average person's hunt like other hunters, fast pace unexpected events, and willingness to have hope for more opportunities!
I applied for a job with Gohunt. Everything went perfect on the interview until the last question..."How would you describe your beard potential?" I just got up and walked out...We all knew i was not a fit
All been there, I missed a 3x4 this year at 17 yards with my bow, judged him at 25 yards coming around a thick patch of scrub oak we both surprised each other, felt like such a knuckle head when I ranged the bush he was by after the shot. Only makes you better, we all learn
What I have noticed by watching most of the hunting episodes is the videography is superb, like super awesome footage, up until the shot. Not all, but the majority of the kill shots aren’t even close to being viewable. The camera is either zoomed way too far out or not even on the animal at all. Is this on purpose? The kill shot on Lorenzo’s bull on the Homestead episode is world class though.
Weather is not the main factor for the rut yes does it help of course but the dogs have to be bred by a certain time in order to be born at the correct time in the spring it is caused mainly by the length of the day and night
Man watching videos like this doesn't help with knowing the first hunting season of the new year is still far away lol. What rifle and scope combo were you guys running for this hunt?
We totally agree with you! Can't wait for summer scouting to get here. The equipment setup we were using was a Browning X-Bolt Hells canyon Speed rifle in the 26 Nosler caliber shooting the Nosler long range 129gr bullet at about 3,400FPS at the muzzle. It's an unreal shooter for western hunting. The optic is the Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50 with the MOA reticle. It runs very well with the 26 caliber.
Honestly this is a fantastic shooting rifle. The Hell's Canyon speed rifle is one that can handle anything you throw at it. Especially when you throw a quality optic on top.
I really appreciated how you did not shoot the first time the buck cresting the ridge-because of your heavy breathing---so many knuckle head hunters shoot and wound deer--I am primarily bow--hunter--meat eater.
This guy needs to go back to the target range. And shame on the guide letting him take an extended range shot without a confirmed range. This is a failure by everyone involved.
Can't believe the shots that you was gonna make over the open horizon , and no one is calling you out on it . I'm guessing most of them would have made the same shots . Shame on all of you that would .
It bothers me when I hear hunters utter those ugly words...."out of state hunters." I doubt he even knew where the other hunters came from. What about himself, was he also from out of state? Non-resident hunters are to blame for everything when things go wrong, even when your are shooting well beyond your ability.
"I haven't shot a deer with a rifle in nine years." Has he shot a rifle in nine years? Really don't like to hate on the video because I liked everything about it - public land DIY, team work, the production... except for his poor shooting. Missing at 350. Missing at 500 - he never should have shot at 500 if he can't hit accurately at 350. Outside of that, great video.
Couldn't stay awake long enough to make it through the stupid commercial, never got to watch the show...stupid to have a commercial 50 percent as long as the actual video...sucks...sucks...sucks

Thank you, Clint! It was a tough and memorable hunt.
Beautiful buck..!! Thanks for sharing your whole hunt (including misses)... We've all been there..!!
Thanks! We agree. So much more real when you show the ups and downs.

Well done on showing the challenge of competing with other hunters and pressure or rushed shots. Very realistic !
Very, very cool. Great filming. It was awesome to the challenges and the mental toll they take on a hunter. Way to power through and get 'er done.
Thanks for the kind words, Yancee! It was a really fun hunt. Those struggles make a hunt so much more memorable.
i am just gettng amped watching this stuff. I have 3rd season unit 22 this year. cannot wait.
Best of luck!
yah you guys are killing my billable hours at work...... " um yah boss, . I am just reviewing this footage of the last project.......

Haha!! Comment of the year winner goes out to you.

Sorry to hear that. It happens to everyone eventually. And you're right... after that it can always be a great learning experience.
I'm a sucker for big beautiful 3s! Very nice! Well done! Congrats!
brutal watching this guy miss so much, im sure it was for you guys handing him big buck after big buck. congrats on kill
Nice video and buck....congrats. Shooting was a bit sub-par...more range time.

Great video guys I love it Shaking like a leaf! That's the best.
There's nothing better!!
Awesome buck dude, congratulations!
Why are not the other two videos tabs at the end of this video linked? This would help your exposure tremendously!
Yeah, it was an old feature that you were able to do before the normal end cards that you are used to now.
Getting it done! Nice 3 point. Congrats.
Thanks Chris!

Well put! We have several articles on this exact same topic here: www.gohunt.com/read/INSIDER/the-science-of-the-mule-deer-rut
Got me a 3rd season tag, 9 pt tag!
3rd season 2024, big buck gonna be down! (Hopefully)
Is this Kebler pass? I think you guys are hunting near here or Horse Creek Ranch in GMU 521?
Sweet! Watching this makes me want a better scope even more so I can take a 500 yard shot like you guys Haha. Good job!
Haha! Thanks, Jose. Great equipment sure helps out in some situations.
Nice video
Pretty funny watching him miss so much! Haha. Sorry, just so damn funny.
Awesome video, congrats!
Sweet buck, awesome job! Makes me cringe seeing all those shots without earplugs though 😬
Thank you, Justin! And yes, earplugs would have been a great thing to have along. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving as well!

Thanks man! Really appreciated.
Привет с Алтая.Beautiful.Hunting good.If you want to wander through the forest behind the bear, you are welcome to our shores.Удачи.
Just bought the Hell's Canyon Speed in 7mm, it's the first rifle I've ever boughten. How well do you like yours?
Honestly this is a fantastic shooting rifle. The Hell's Canyon speed rifle is one that can handle anything you throw at it. Especially when you throw a quality optic on top.
What tripod and shooting rest were you using at 6:50?
Nice 3 point buck
Great team work:)
Glad you enjoyed the film!

Thanks for the kind words. We agree 100%!
awesome hunt
Thank you!
No problem
good video, but i guess the logistics had you hunting from a motel, which would be a bummer.
Could you share what unit you were in?
Hi Richard. We do not provide that information.
@@GOHUNT I respect your decision not to share what zone you hunted. Can I ask why you don't share that information?
This guy needs to go back to the target range. And shame on the guide letting him take an extended range shot without a confirmed range. This is a failure by everyone involved.
Full Rut does not happen until 4th season..
More physical fitness you would have been ready for that shot
Love it. Congrats on a toad!
Thank you!

If you’ve not shot a deer with a rifle in nine years, why are you taking shots at those ranges? You now hunt, get in there and make a better shot.
.
300 pound deer? Uhhhhh😉 ….
Stud buck btw , loved the raw footage , if this doesn’t get the blood pumping ur dead!!!
buy a range finder and know your dope .. missing shots at 300-500 is a joke
