Hi Kathleen, and best wishes for the happiest of New Years to you. (Warning: this is going to be a long comment.) Yay for crow buddies to watch over you as you craft. I developed a special affinity for crows when I made my gratitude journal a couple of years ago. I featured them and some of their attributes on the center spread. I love your crows. What a great idea for this video--turning things inside out to make something new. Reminds me of my mother telling me about women in the Depression years turning collars and cuffs to salvage worn shirts. I like that you left the tiny bit of original type showing under the collage paper on the flap of the almond butter package. I always get new ideas of better ways to do things from watching you work. Putting the collage scrappy strip across the envelope flap dresses it up. I was thinking how smart of you to start in the middle. I think my tendency would be to start at one edge and work to the other. Your method produces a much better result. I also love how the bee connects the collage on the flap to the collage on the envelope base. And the ones with the trim on the flap are so cute. Thanks for all the great ideas. Sorry to be so long winded today.
Thank you for this fun and inspiring video. Making something beauftiful out of something that was headed to the trash is my favorite part of junk journaling and it's how discovered the art form to begin with. I like all of the ideas you shared and will use them in my own journals.
I am a new subscriber and have been binge watching your videos. I've just started my first junk journal so I've been watching a lot of TH-cam videos and yours are my favorite!
Happy New year, Kathleen! You’ve found a great way to kickoff the year by creating a different approach to using our junk envelopes and bags. Thank you! 😀💞
Thank you Keryn! I so hope you have a wonderful year coming up. Is your husband any closer to retirement? I’m glad you enjoyed the video and always appreciate your steady support and encouragement.
Nice idea to start using more junk items- I think I would like to challenge myself to this as well! As always, I love to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Some great ideas here. I've only turned security envelopes inside out as I too love the print inside them, then I would cover up anything else showing. Love the chocolate one (looks delicious also ;p) . Have a beautiful day ☺♥
Happy New Year, Kathleen! Fun ideas with endless possibilities. TY for sharing. I too, love crows!!! The sculpture is very unique. Perfect spot for them. You'll have to give them names 😄
Thank you Chris! Happy New Year to a fellow crows fan! I was thinking about naming them actually, but I haven’t yet. I am also thinking about making little steampunk accessories for them, haha - and Sarah is okay with that, haha.
Thank you so much for this video! I had also vowed to start using up the little mountain of junk mail and bags that have accumulated over time. These ideas are very helpful.
And a HUGE Happy New Year to you also Kathleen! I am looking forward to seeing you work with more recycled items this year - I love the challenge and creativity that comes from that! And I love that they have more dimension also :) Great idea here - so simple but as they say - the simple ideas are often the best!!
Thank you Gemma! Happy wishes for you also! I hope you are enjoying the summer. and thank you so much for all your watch-time!! I have to catch up with your comments. Love it!
I decided to try and go through your videos from oldest to newest so I set up a little playlist each day and when I am eating breakfast and/or lunch I watch it - it helps remind me of all your great ideas!@@BeAgainBooks
@@BeAgainBooks I forgot to mention - Summer is not so great for me here - I live about 40 minutes drive from the coastline (I know that sounds very close) and so we don’t enjoy those lovely breezes that come off the water. It’s very humid here in summer and lots of mosquitoes so I enjoy autumn and spring much more! And winter is pretty good too! I did a little research and I noticed that you have pretty dry summers there so it must be much more pleasant with those high temperatures! But you don’t get much rain - is that right?!! How do you farm if you don’t get much water? Must be tough! !
@@gemmalclarke Our average temperatures are very pleasant in the summertime, usually hot only in June - upper 90’s F. Winters are cold, sometimes sub-zero F. It’s because of the altitude - we are about 7,000 feet above sea level. We don’t get a lot of rain - about 11 or 12 inches annually, unless in a drought, which we were this year. Our summer monsoons did not come this year. But we had 8 inches of snow about a week before Christmas and it was very wet, so that was a good thing. We don’t do a lot of farming here, except for hay and some corn and those folks pump the water for the fields and use sprinklers. It’s not very efficient though because of our dry humidity, so there is a lot of evaporation…gardening is tough, as you say.
I got a little metal tool from the Dollar Tree that is marketed for taking off gel nail polish. it works great for getting under envelope flaps! Lovely pockets! I think my favorite is the chocolate bar :)
Happy new year Kathleen, i really loved this video! I'd never thought of turning them inside out! when i coffee dye envelopes they come undone, so i've got lots of envelopes ready.🥰😍
Very fun ideas ❤. Happy New Year. Looking forward to seeing how you do your back to the basics. PS my favorite is the security envelope with the rick rack trim.
Thanks so much Evie - I hope you’ll try this! We’ll see how I get along, right? I get a few of those large document envelopes and they are awkward and take up space in the “trash” bin, haha. I think I’ll just make up several of these.
Kathleen you have done a marvelous job with redemption of the trash heap. I loved each one of these.
Thanks so much my friend! I hope you are coping okay - I’m thinking about you!
So fun! Love using junk mail…new and refreshing ideas, Kathleen! Can’t wait for your next video!
Thank you Donna! I appreciate this.
Kathleen - this is - again - brilliant! I just love this idea. That was such fun!
Thanks so much Dody! So sorry I missed this comment somehow! Thanks for watching.

Thanks so much Dorothy! I hope you’ll try it!
This was fun. I’m going to start keeping junk mail again. I had so much it was taking over. These are so cool. Hugs, treen 💕💕💕

I really like this idea! I love digitals but would really like to use more junk in my journals.
Exactly! That’s just what I’m feeling. I can’t abandon digitals, just want to make more of an effort to use junk. Thanks Katherine.
Hello Kathleen, love your little ideas for using up some junk mail, Happy New Year and the best wishes from a cold and drizzly The Netherlands.
Thanks so much for stopping in Debby! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Stay warm!!
Love those birds!
Thanks so much Andrea! Sorry to have missed this comment!
I always learn new things watching you ❤
I’m so glad to hear it Denise! Thanks for coming by!
You have much better envelopes than I do!! love these
Haha - perhaps I do Bonnie! I also have a neighbor who gets great envelopes and some from Britain as well.
Love this. I always slit my envelopes when opening, so now will have to figure out how to open so I can use the flap. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you Karen! Yep- I even have my neighbor’s husband trained to open envelopes on the far end, haha. He is such a good sport!
I love these inside out ideas. Tfs.
My pleasure Emily. Thanks for watching.
