People can hate but when you hear talent like this you its what this person w as meant to do. I'm a fan of rnb and I sing but real recognize real. Some of the chords and transitions... good lord.
WOW.....SOMEONE MADE THE REMARK, THAT STEVE'S A SHOW OFF. LOL. YOU DO REALIZE IT'S SHOW BUSINESS. YOU GOTTA BRING IT ALIVE AND NOT BE A BORE. TO EACH HIS OWN. FROM A VAI FAN. PEACE!
6.38 ish is flurries of notes and takes playing a stringed instrument past what exact notes that are being played, very impressive technique and and craftsmanship, takes a lot of time and a mad amount of devotion to be able to reach the level of proficiency required. Its like some virtuosos go outside without jackets.
Say whatever you want, the fact is: The guy knows how to play guitar, love him or hate him thats up to you. Of one thing I'm pretty damn sure, 78.6% of the people that criticize or hate him are not able to play like him, doesn't know more than 2 scales, doesn't go beyond those same 3 or 4 power chords they use over and over and etc.I don't understand why so much hatred, if you don't like this what are you doing here in first place? better go back to your poppy senseless radio songs you actually like to hear, and leave this to people who really appreciate a real good guitar player.
and ur criticizing 78.6 %that are probably better than you... Its called an opinion. U shared and now i will. POPPY? Lol whatever you say man. You need to be educated.. One word... Polyphia
but nastiness for its own sake isn't really an opinion. Polite disagreement is always acceptable - but why some internet warriors have to charge in and denigrate those who have different opinions is, frankly, a disturbing development in society today. No wonder we have wars on a larger scale
My son in law Turner told me about Steve..... Listens to him and my god ...I see why turner picked up the guitar.... A bad ass on the guitar..... Amazing job !!!
Some guff talked below on this thread .. jeezzz only one of the most musical players ever put on this earth never mind the incredible compositions and ability to imagine things that nobody would even dream of .. every note counts with this guy , really dont know what some of you are hearing ?????
Dudes are jealous. Saw a bunch of comments saying he was "too clean" and "too precise" and using that as a criticism. When you're so amazing that people need to hear you fuck up before they think you're human, I'm pretty sure that's pretty high praise, lol I'll readily admit that watching him fills me with jealous rage, but I definitely won't delude myself by criticizing examples of amazing musicianship just to make myself feel better.
That's the thing, the part in the movie that was "played" on the Telecaster was not even played on Telecaster. A Telecaster has 21 frets, this piece uses 22 frets. :)
In an interview, Steve played ALL of the parts, every single one of them between them in the duo. He said it was harder for the audience to understand that, and he always gets asked that question. He took the time to make them a tad different and cool. Steve doesn't get enough credit for being as diverse as he really is...even now.
If they are discouraged then they cannot do. If they see this and want to do better then they are the people than will create music in the years to come.
I've heard some people say his style is a too flashy, but it's not. He actually is that good. Steve has full control sailing across the frets at 100mph, not just improvised poseur fluff that sounds cool. Speed is nothing without control.
One time there was some problem with Mike's tour bus or something, he was on tour for some new age type college in Fla. that I forget the name of. Anyway he ended up at a bar in my old town doing an unadvertised show. The next night it was advertised and it was packed. There was some girl with them calling herself Arete, I think it was. The first night I was able to corner him and pick his mind a little bit about how he plays. It was very interesting.
i agree overdrive..i LOVE vai..and once in a while i get in the mood to listen to him..especially his newer stuff with the symphony (visual sound theories) BUT id rather listen to satch or eric johnson
steve is still 1 of the best players that blow my mind ever time
Incredible performance! Haters gonna hate.
I've never seen Vai do that live before, awesome footage, I have been playing it for years, that was such a treat! !
Fake !
Dude is a wizard!!!! Steve is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar. When I saw Jack Butler play as a kid I was mesmerized.
Is that Mike Keneally? he's a monster too. They play off each other so well.
Gosto muito desse vídeo. Acho o Steve Vai, muito humilde.
The end of this makes me smile every time.
Ol steve was so good in that movie. Perfect for that part

Aqui no Brasil poderíamos ter esse tipo de show! Deve ser um sonho frequentar show assim... :(
Up
Thanks for posting! Classics never die!

LOL. YOU DO REALIZE IT'S SHOW BUSINESS. YOU GOTTA BRING IT ALIVE AND NOT BE A BORE. TO EACH HIS OWN. FROM A VAI FAN. PEACE!
That shows how good of a showman (great actor ) he is ..
Anybody with kind of ability would be a showoff. I know I would ! 😜
Outstanding version of the duel in the Crossroads movie. Loved it!
What a LOT of fun that was.
Nice seeing two Zappa alumni playing together like this :)

Eddie Marr Agreed, that was flat out amazing technique! I can never even approach that level in my lifetime. He's like a machine!
Steve still amazes me!!!!!!
Love that movie. freakin' awesome scene at the end. Rock on Vai!
Dois gênios da guitarra. Não tenho palavras. Fantástico.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Amazing!!!
the gods have clashed and we have witnessed what is possibly the greatest guitar playing of the world....

Great to see more video of Mike Keneally having fun with Vai❤
I wish he would go back to this style!
Awesome! !!
Awesomeness
Amo o trabalho do Steve vai
Super!
Sounds great but shouldn't the other guy have a Tele? lol
That's just cruel x)
I know the movie,it's just that playing that on a Tele is much harder than on a Jem

TheSkipjack95 Yeah.. and in Jaws they didn't use a real shark.
Not the old ones made in the 80s.
Amazing! Never see this before!!!
Mike Keneally can only hold a match to the great Steve Vai🔥🎸🎶
They didnt play the clean arpeggio section! Its like the best part of the entire duel......
indeed. did steve played that part? ..
Claudio Cruzat
I think so

Love the cheesiness of this :D
I here Train Kept A Rollin' in my mind listening that
Steve Vai is the reason I picked up a guitar...
Muhammad Hayes Eric Johnson is the reason I picked up guitar
Me too
Same! That movie made me want to lear blues!
He is the reason why I didn't. :-D
Syu from Galneryus is my reason.
LOVE Vai's tone!
Steve vai. Virtuoso.

Nice!
Just rented the movie again for $3.99
Still holds up. Love it
Chosen one!!🤘🏻😜
thats some killer licks there
We're not worthy. We're not worthy. We're not worthy.
Crossroads is such a cool flick. Steve Vai played both parts, his and Ralph Macchio's. Ry Cooder scored the film.
Steve Vai, always a joy to hear/watch. Shame the vid is such low quality.
I saw the Australian leg of this tour. Awe-balls.
Sou fã de carteirinha
class
Amo o jeito que eles erram, fazem parte do show!!!
@ 7:00 WoW!
Every piece of his set is planned
In rehearsal and no one is better,
There is no more greater knowledge
Than via, and is very giveing
Love the way Steve never ever plays one single blues riff.
You must not know the catalogue a lot of it is.
Jack Butler's gonna like you...
wow wow wow
Discourages a lot of up & coming boys!
If they are discouraged then they cannot do. If they see this and want to do better then they are the people than will create music in the years to come.

you didn't get the reference.

mike always looked like an accountant that had had a nervous breakdown and wandered into fancy dress shop.

I’d love to see Mike Kneelley really open up on Steve!
Love that passage from 1:14-1:21
he shud play more of this in his concerts
If I didn't see this,mi wouldn't think it possible. He is ridiculous
