    Scotty knows that 'death' isn't always final in this universe, especially since 1) it happened to him and 2) Kirk's body was never found. Now, how many people does he think would have had the pull to get an Enterprise back into service? It might have been more wishful thinking than actually believing Kirk was still alive.
    Bigger question is why didn't McCoy or Spock go looking for him? We definitely know they lived long enough to.

    The Uhura memory issue is dealt with in Christoper L. Bennett's new book Living Memory.

      Goody for Christopher L. Bennett. I don’t care. This is a TV show, we shouldn’t need a reading assignment (55 years later) to help the story fit together. Neither should we need to go hunting between the lines to fill plot holes, but in this case I think we can: fluence in Swahili came back to her first and readily, perhaps hinting that Nomad’s ‘memory wipe’ explanation was an oversimplification. Everything was still in her pretty head, it had been driven from her consciousness. An intense refresher quickly restored knowledge and memories.

    Remember…Kirk went back to retrieve Spock’s body. At one point he even asks Saavik if the Vulcan male she refers to is alive. To which she replies that he is but he is not himself…that he is suffering from rapid aging just like the planet. Therefore, no message to Starfleet was necessary! Kirk was going to bring Spock’s body back to Vulcan along with Spock’s Katra. When Sarak tells Kirk that he must bring them both to Vulcan…he was referring to McCoy and Spock’s Katra. Kirk probably took it literally and went to retrieve Spock’s body! Only AFTER did everyone discover that Spock was in fact alive…did they suggest a refusion!

    • @RCassinello
      @RCassinello 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched the film the other day and it really stuck out to me "...Was Kirk listening properly? Sarek only wanted the Katra. He wasn't concerned with the body!". But then again, Sarek agrees that bringing them "both" to Vulcan will be difficult but he knows Kirk "will find a way" - surely, that way simply being to shove McCoy onto the next space-bus to Vulcan, just like Sarek? So logically speaking, the scene doesn't play out clearly, but I think by then the audience would be expect to already know that Saavik and David are about to find Spock alive in some form or another.

    Plot hole: The borg have effective time travel technology, but only ever used it once. This makes them invulnerable to defeat and can simply undo any mistakes they might make and we saw that they can change history to their benefit. Also, the one time they use it they go back to to stop first contact, and, you know, which is irrelevant when you have time travel, but Seven said the borg were present for that. How could she have known when the attempt to change history obviously failed and the cube was destroyed and the sphere was destroyed moments later in the past? So, with the Seska thing, she was a Cardassian infiltration agent. From DS9 we know that the Cardassians used agents like this to infiltrate the Bajoran resistance (who had basic computer tech and possibly access to transporters), and Seska was a Maquis (also had computers and transporters) infiltrator for at least a few years. If the Cardassians hadn't found a way to alter their agents (probably genetically) to hide from computer scans and transporters then the agents would be about as useful as a chocolate hammer. Therefore the fact the doctor had to examine her blood in detail to discover he real identify makes perfect sense, since agents would be useless if they were so easy to identify.

One little mystery: how'd he manage that when the transport pad is flat? Did the operator give him a heads-up to put a leg up? Or is there an adjustment that can be made mid-beam?

    I always thought there was a huge error in Star Trek: Voyager. They were trying to get home as fast as possible, yet the Kazon and even Seska was able to come across them. This should have been nearly impossible. Sure Voyager would delay travel for some exploration, but they also traversed dangers and spent much time going as fast as possible. This was my biggest issue with the series.

    • @chrisdelaney926
      @chrisdelaney926 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good comment. Season 1 was all spent in the same system / space'ish area looking for a way home. Some leftover tech from the care taker or another secret array some where. In my opinion they were not ready to commit to a 70 year trip until well in to season 2.
