river crossing with rucksack and bivi bag

this is a video on river crossing and was filmed in the brecon beacons national park. it's a lot of fun but you have to get it right or it could turn dangerous. i think it's some thing that needs to be practiced to get good at it.

Nice one Andy - some good prep there I'd say. The bivvy bag held up super well. You could do a long crossing and keep it all dry. A decent spot to do the exercise to. All the best. Mark

Great tips in here, Andy. I know a lot of ultralight hikers over here use a heavy duty trash compactor bag to line their backpacks. A bit overkill for your setup though. Those British bivvy bags look like a fantastic bit of kit. I like simple.

Yer, the stuff I'm using is pretty tough. It's light, but not ultra light. The base weight was 11kg, / 24lb I believe. I have a double hooped bivi bag by tera nova, it's light and good with zips at one end, but has a vented mesh at the other, so couldn't be used, but I like the tera nova bivi more than the other.
