    World-famous drummer Antonio Sanchez explains why he likes Yamaha drums. Antonio has been playing Yamaha drums ever since the first kit he played as a student at Berklee. He explains that the wide sonic range and the quality of the hardware are a couple of the top reasons he has stuck with Yamaha.
    After earning a degree in classical piano from the National Conservatory, Antonio studied jazz at Berklee and would go on to establish an impressive career playing with world-class artists. His many achievements include collaborations with jazz greats such as Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Chris Potter, David Sanchez and Scott Colley, and composing music for the movie Birdman.

    I saw/met Antonio at a clinic at The Blue Note(NYC) in '05...He couldn't have been nicer and more open to questions...He even signed my Modern Drummer mag featuring him on the cover!...And what a player!!!

    I mean, this is artistry. There are so many great drummers out there, once in a while someone unique comes along. Case in point - Antonio.

    I dig Antonio....I like that he mentions the entry level kit...and he was impressed by that.

      The Absolute series is the entry level of their professional lines. But the Gigmaker is Yamaha's entry-level kit.

    I've had the same yamaha stand for 25 years. I've thrown it at my cokehead singer,kicked it over accidently,people fell into my drumset (he left bloody)... still works small dents,most hefty stand.

    if i had an extra 9k lying around, i'd probably pick up a set of PHX drums :)
    great endorsement. everything i've seen/heard of Yamaha lends itself to the same conclusion. i sort of wish i had some. they sound great for Mr Sanchez, Mr Weckl, and Mr Lewis.

    To me Yamaha drums have a more deeper solid sound the the others on the market.

    It is Yamaha's versatility, or "user friendliness" compared with the competition (anyone who has tried making a TAMA set fit in a low volume situation knows how difficult some drums can be to work with), and the quality of the product thats why I'll never sell my pre-Sakae split era Oak Customs.

    Out of curiosity what were the sizes Antonio was using?

    • @dillonjames7764
      @dillonjames7764 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would guess 18 or 20 in kick, 14 snare, then 12, 14, 16

      Tunning the drumheads.

      Pearl insists on those massive godawful tom holders. The ones that went out of style in the 80s?

    personally, i think that loudness is not the thing a drumset needs

      +Had Enough I thought that too. Tense is the worst thing to be when playing drums. Seems like a pretty great drummer. I don't really like the styles of the stuff he was playing though. To frantic and fast feeling.

      Had Enough First time I saw him I thought "who's this guy with the idd technique?" Then I watched his band's video. Wow! This cat can play! A true artist! Much more than a "drummer"

    Kinda reminds me of jojo mayer's playing style (witch is not a bad thing!)

    seems like he's trying to sell us on Pat Metheny more so than Yamaha drums.

  • @bnyce52
    @bnyce52 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    These types of videos are so unhelpful. I'm not trying to hear your chops on the cymbals and snare that isn't even part of the shell package! Just let me hear the toms and bass clearly without all the flash!

    Yes I would much rather take a Yamaha than a Sonor on tour.
