My son married into the Bertholf family, I have been to Lt Cmdr Ellsworth's grave at Arlington, his nephew Capt Charles Mariner Bertholf is buried next to him. Capt Bertholf was the the captain of the USS Callaghan, the last destroyer to be sunk by a Kamikaze. 47 sailors died, the ship was sinking when one of the sailors told Capt Bertholf he saw one of the Kamaikaze crew jump from the aircraft and landed in the ocean near the sinking ship. The Kamaikaze had a crew of 3, pilot, bombadeer and rear machine gunner. The gunner jumped out of the aircraft without parachute at 400MPH, and survived. Capt Bertholf rescued him in his life boat, they became friends after the war. There is another Bertholf buried next to Capt Cahrles, his son, Commander Bertholf, a Vietnam Vet.
