Some people don't like the style, I don't like the $ price because the freight rates keep going down, and the price of trucks has nearly doubled in the past 10 years.
Don’t forget the cost of maintenance that also atlesst doubled. The ones around us in Alabama are all $150 an hr. And these new trucks with all The newer, emission crap they spend their fair time in the shop!
Took Peterbilt long enough to caught up with westernstar for the cab curtains. TV mount should be standard on the 58in and up sleepers. I do like the amount of storage in this one. 589 is growing on me like the 389 did.
I like it all the way around, the mount and outlet for ELD etc is very good. Not too many lights and not visually obfuscated from inspection with excessive deck plating etc but it looks like it could use one deck plate and stairs to it on the right side. I was wondering what the two vertically oriented black plastic things 2:42 are at the back of the cab near the bottom.
The wide cab with the single windshield destroyed the classic look of the truck. I get it, there's hella room inside now but it doesn't look good. It looks cheap. My issue with the door is the window also. It's not square and it looks cheap. It looks like it came off a Freightliner. The whole thing looks more like a Western star. Just my opinion didn't mean to offend
@@SteveCarbone Mostly the handles. These outside handles wear so insanely fast. After about a hundred thousand thousand miles up to two hundred thousand, they especially feel insanely cheap.
@@UnduplicatableMy last 579 had 600k on it when it was sold and I had no issues with the door handles. My current 579 has 260k on it and no issues with the handles. My favorite part about the doors on the wide cab is that they actually seal up, to the point that cab has to be vented like a car so you cab close the doors.
@@bradj7900 Yup, I don’t mind the doors too much, and they seem to close nicer and are much quieter (block more noise) than with the 379/389 style doors. I haven’t been in a 589 yet, but I’m liking the appearance if I can get the customization I want. Those handles aren’t too bad, but I really like the older style external door handles of the 379 and 389 and wish I could keep that on the 579/589. I suppose the reason our handles are already junk is because these are company trucks used by multiple people and we work with harsh oxidizers and what-nots, too. They work fine, but they feel cheap and sometimes they’ll stick in the open position instead of closing. And when the chrome cover begins to wear off, it’s even more ugly. We work around fine grit and dust, along with oxidizers, but the old style handles all look much better and they’re older than our 579 handles. I prefer a metal handle over a plastic handle. Automatics in the old style cabs are AWFUL - they destroy your knees and have no space to move. I’d love to finance a 589 and find a company or more to run it with, but I’m not sure the insurance would be cheap enough for someone who’s almost 30 with only a couple years or so of commercial hazmat driving experience. Do you have any good news for someone like me in this position?
I think the DEF tank should be mounted forward of the driver side fuel tank that way both of the tanks line up with each other and the fuel tanks need to be positioned about 6 inches more to the rear that way the filler caps aren’t under the sleeper which would make it easier to fuel at those truck stops that have the long fuel hoses from one pump compared to those with satellite pumps Just a thought
What does he mean that Peterbilt didn't offer airbag dump? I never noticed and I've driven many 379s! Maybe I just didn't have a reason to use it. I honestly don't remember not having an airbag dump, though!
Yea we’ve e had several 379’s. Still Have one. They all had air dumps over on the right side. Left to right toggle switches. Either above or below the inter axle diff. Lock. And 5th wheel air slide release. If u have one.
@@willcagle-t9q Yeah, I remember the three or four left to right toggle switches on the far right of the dash! Shiiit, I really wish my credit was still what it used to be. I need a truck bad!
Why does it seem like Steve isn't so excited about these 589s? If not, I don't blame him. I'm pretty upset about the change, too! They should not have mixed the modern aero with the classic! They were better off mixing the modern aero with a completely new design of a long hood like KW did with the W990! You should never redesign your classic truck, you should just design something new or partially new! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! That's why I respect KW for leaving the W900 exactly like it's always been! The 389 headlights were already too much, but everyone got used to it, especially after all the aftermarket designs came out. That should have been the end of messing with the classic design right there, but nope, they just had to mess with it again, and now have discontinued the classic design for good, smh! It's one thing to update the classic truck with new amenities, etc., but those things can be done without messing with the actual design! Nonetheless, I guess we can say Rest Easy to the 389! It's definitely a sad day in trucking, smh!
New Coke also sucked. I don’t have a dog in the hunt. I’ve owned 10 Kenworth tractors. All classic and all awesome. I pick them up at the factory 5 miles from my place.
@rayray4192 That's wassup. I hear that! I love a KW! I'm no owner op, though. I wish! I'm fact I'm thinking about going back OTR to get that money up so I can get my own truck! I just gotta find someone with a good strong truck, preferably something classic! The guy I drive for now has all W900 Studios, but we are local, and he has nonwork for the tractors, so I'm in a dump truck. He doesn't want to put the truck OTR!
This looks too good. I’d still want both fuel tanks to be longer, extending just past the cab so the fill ports are easily accessible. Steps and handles would be great, and I’d mod the def tank to be hidden somewhere behind the stairs. Desperately needs deck plate and different outside door handles. I also don’t know why carpet is still a default option.
You always make Peterbilts look awesome and you did with this one. But the 589 is hideous with that one piece windshield and on slope. I really dislike the interior cab as well. Not a knock against you at all this all on paccar or Peterbilt. At this point why even put out a hood truck.
I concur I drove 2 389’s with those headlights and always had a hard time seeing the road if it was raining at night The turn signals in the fender bracket are a good idea If I was ordering one it would have to have the single square heated LED’s along with lollipop style turn signals on the fenders

Die selben Probleme wie in Deutschland
Beautiful paint scheme. Really does need a nice chrome bumper.
I certainly hope they plan on putting one on!
That Paint Scheme Looks Good On The Peterbilt
Thanks Johnnie I agree
Seminole Paint Scheme is ALWAYZ AWESOME

Those are vents for when you close the doors.
@@bradj7900 Ahh, thank you. I assume that they are one way vents in that case.
Fabulous looking truck!!!
Thanks 👍
Love that color!
I like the color combo
New ones are looking good. I still like my 99' 379 🤷🏼♂️
I thought Michelin discontinued all 24.5 tires?
That 589 cab 🤮
The shape of the door is just bizarre
In what way or what part, flat on top, flat at the back, flat across the bottom, angled corner is new, just looks like a door to me.....

Nice LARGECAR with 11r 24.5 😎🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🇺🇸📢📢📢📢📢📢📢
Are they coming 302 standard? Or are you ordering them long?
I order them that way, there is no such thing as a standard wheelbase. We pick every wheelbase for every truck we order.
Wasn’t sure how to feel about the new Petes, but that doesn’t look half bad. Can you get me one in desert turquoise?
What’s the weight on that unit? Any lighter/heavier than a similar 389?
About 300 more than a matching 389
What? No creaky hood opening noise?
what's the MPG? still in 5 MPG?
Good drivers get well in the 6's
Do you have Peterbilt 579 with APU & POWER INVERTOR?
You can’t put drop panels on sleeper because you will not be able to remove fuel cap?
Hinges

colour a little different but really nice truck
It’s 19 May hope you’ve sold em by now 🇦🇺
Took a minute to get everything lined out to sell them so just really hitting the market today
Buy a W900 now
I heard they’ll be gone in 5 years also
The front bumper has to go. And the dash has to go. I hate the dash board in the 589. If I could find a way I'd put the 359 dash in the truck.
They don’t look bad in person just a 579 with a hood just like the 389/386 was
And the front axle way more out front
RIP full gauge package. Nice 579 interior otherwise
Find good paying freight and I’ll pay cash haha
Personally I don't like the back window in the sleeper
